Andre Johnson....

Waterboy
:soapbox: Disappointed in AJ playing so far. He is not playing to his potential. Granted he caught a long pass for a TD. He was going up against 3rd string CB Cash. He should have been running circles around this guy! He and Carr should have exploited that 3rd stringer! The All Pro CB Bly was out! It seems the ball has to be perfect to AJ for him to catch it. There were 2 balls thrown to him that was right at him and he dropped them. Made Cash look like an All Pro. The end around he let a 175 lb CB take him down with ease. People keep saying he is young and give him time. But I was watching Roy Williams damn now he is a STUD!
He made Glenn look like a High School DB on 2 plays that went for TD`s! It is only his second Pro Game! Thank God they have a QB that can’t see the field! When Roy has his hands on the ball it is his no matter who is around! Looks like he has the strongest hands in the league!
Andre has raw talent! He needs to learn the fundamentals on how to catch the football with his hands 1st not his body. IE: that slant he caught for a 1st down he bobbled the catch. A good hit would knock the ball right out. On Curls and Outs he needs to come back to the ball keeping his body between the ball and defender. Also when running after the catch learn how to use a STIFF ARM to defend off would be tacklers. To bad we can’t put DD`s Intensity of running into AJ!!!! :hmmm: Now that is a thought

It is not AJ's fault that only 5 throws went his way...its the cover 2 defenses fault according to Capers...

Qb can't see the field?

Pardon? He completed a pass to 9 different guys in that game

Ummm, yeah. Hard to catch balls that aren't thrown to you. Also hard to "catch" balls when you turn inside, out jump two DB's and get the catch only to be screwed by officials on a 40+ yard that would have given you a 126+ yd day. Yeah, AJ is a disappointment. And just seems to me that it is a little hard to knock the guy that lead the AFC in yards after catch last year for lacking intensity--call me and the three Bills DB's crazy, but he runs pretty hard after the catch.

What about Andre's touchdown where he slipped a tackle to take in the end zone? Or the should-be reception at the 1 where he flat out took the ball from 2 DB's, only to get hosed by the people in the booth?

People complain about not going deep to AJ, but I think they don't do enough quick slants to him and utilize his ability to break one off on the defense. Last season during the 2nd Tennessee game they did alot of 2 step drop plays, and moved the ball quite efficiently, even though they did that to keep Carr from getting hurt again. Some of those, combined with a few pump fakes and play fakes could easily set up deep passing plays.

That critique of AJ is out to lunch. Maybe the captain has been drinking a bit too much brandy with Tenille lately. The ref's yesterday get two thumbs down from this critic. If the referees were a film, they were a cross between Ishtar, Gigli, and Titanic. Any drunk in the stands could plainly see AJ was shoved out of bounds. It was a brilliant catch. Too bad the ref couldn't see what everyone else could considering he was a couple of feet from the play. Eye checkups are part of your new insurance package bub. Try using it. :thumbdown

I'm sorry but Roy Williams hasn't shown to me that he is the next up and coming top receiver. Yes, he had a very good game against the Texans. However, consistancy is the key. AJ has definitely shown me consistancy. Even if he is consistant with dropping a few passes or bobbling some balls. You know that you'll be getting the same guy day in and day out...if not you'll be getting a guy that will be improving. I'd rather have a guy that can give me the same thing every day while still improving. AJ is definitely a great receiver...and will be. The key is getting him the ball.

I missed the series' where Andre Johnson dropped back and threw passes to Andre Johnson. I must have been watching Davis catch 10 passes.

AJ is runnign around foolishly on firstdowns since everybody knows Palmers runs 99.9% on first downs.

Exactly....I thought that the Texans would for sure do a playaction deep pass to Andre on the very first play of the game against the Lions to take advantage of their defense. What did we do?? Run of course!!
