Andre Johnson released - cut by Colts - signs with Titans

The Andre Johnson thread is turning into a playing field thread? Stop. Stop!

Arrrgghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess it is like whistling past a graveyard, Let's talk about the playing field - thinking of playing against Andre in a Colts uniform is just too scary.

I could care less where AJ plays . The show will go on and it was never about one player to me , it's the local pro football team . Of course if I moved to San Diego I would keep up with the Texans but I would be a Chargers fan .

Only as it pertains to factors that might influence his decision.

You keep posting calculus formulas like it really applies.... :fingergun:

I'd love nothing more than to see the Colts finish the season on the outside looking in and the Texans carrying the division title into the playoffs.

Are you saying this is different from any other year? I want that every year. AJ has nothing to do with it.

Even if he does have a few seasons left, it was still a prudent move for the Texans to do what they did. Sure its going to hurt, but these are the types of moves winning franchises have to make often. Emmitt, Jerry & Joe...if those guys can get traded/released AJ is no exception.

He's got about a 2 year window to make it happen though. After that, father time won't just be calling him on the phone only to be hung up on, he'll be paying him a visit in person.

If you believe he has 2 years left, why is it prudent to cut him & not get his cap number in line with your expectations?

Especially considering he says he only wants to play 2 years.

Of course it's not an apples to apples comparision, but people keep bringing them up in this instance because like AJ, they all are examples of fan favorite HOF studs whom went on to play for other teams when no fan wanted nor could envision seeing them doing so after being with a franchise for so long. How or why it actually happened is irrelevant. Seeing Emmitt Smith trotting out in a damn cardinals uniform was just wierd....& Jerry Rice...............in a raiders uniform was downright blasphemy in my mind..

Weird, maybe. But like 'cak said, at least they went to the table & couldn't come together on a deal. These yahoos running our team didn't even get to table to discuss a contract, they insulted him so bad.

Yeah, chances are that OB didn't want him no matter what. Didn't like his attitude, or the way he parts his hair... that's fine. It's his prerogative. & it's mine to think he's a douche for treating Andre that way.

If Andre didn't want to be here, that's fine. Like grown men, one should say, "I don't want you here." or the other should say, "I don't want to be here."

That's not the way this went down.

The Colts were going to get better eventually... can't count on them to continually shoot themselves in the foot/law of averages.

I was thinking similar about our matchup against Kubiak/BAL and we won that game before the players hit the field.

Did the Texans ever offer to renegotiate a cap friendly contract for these last two years? The only thing I heard was money was never mentioned, BOB just told him that his role was being reduced. It's like they were intentionally trying to piss him off so they could make him look like a disgruntled employee that they have to get rid of.

AJ saw this coming last year before the season and the Texans didn't want to do anything about it then. I'm fine with AJ putting on any other NFL uniform, I just wish the Texans would have let him go last year instead of handiling it this way, this year.

Agree. It's like you work for a firm for x years and when time comes for them to pay your retirement, the fire you a year before you're eligible. I know it isn't exactly the same but it has that same chicken-s#*t feel to it.

Good news guys! I was wrong about Andre Johnson signing with the Patriots for sure!

He went to Indianapolis instead. What a little *****. **** him.

And now, for the remainder of AJ's playing career he must be (sadly) dead to me.

I simply have no alternative. I'll return to thinking the world of him when he finally retires and takes off that shitty uniform.

Andre signs with the Colts - good for him. In the stark business world of football, he will finish out his career playing for what looks to be a contender and playing with a teammate or two who are his friends. That's about as good as he could expect.

Because age is only one factor in evaluating a player?

Yes plus in the NFL folks need to be a little more precise than "aging." Wayne is 3 years older than AJ. That's an average NFL career length older.

Reported 3 year $21 mil deal - obviously devil in the details.

I guess the Colts signing Gore, Andre Johnson, and Cole means they didn't want to rely on a surprise onside kick working and an injury to two Texans quarterbacks in a single game to win the division again.

You realize him and the Colts success will affect us directly right?

Damn, you are right. Maybe the Texans should have thought of that before they cut him. Don't be too upset with the organization though; they did get Hoyer with some of the cap money they saved.

Great now not only do we get to see Andre in a uniform twice a year we have to play against him twice a year!! Was hoping Andre would land anywhere BUT the Colts

F'ing Colts I swear. If they weren't sooo lucky Peyton's neck gave out the exact year Luck declared for the draft that franchise would be no where. I mean seriously what were the chances. ARGHGEW@#R#RVDFAV

So much for taking his time. LOL. We better f-ing beat their asses this year.

This is clearly personal to him. Nothing wrong with that, if he has beef with the front office, but he should know that he also has a ton of fans who think he's the greatest Texan ever. I feel like it's a little bit of a slap in the face to the fans to go straight to the hated division rival.

Eh, Hilton should still be our primary focus. Dude rips us a new one every time we play them. Like he's our kryptonite or something.

Because out of all the teams he picks the team we all ****ing hate. You know he's laughing his ass off right now , just sticking it to us fans

It's not like free agents control who makes them offers.

What do we say about every FA we're trying to woo? - "well they'll go to a contender if given the choice" or "we'll have to overpay to get them." He got an offer from a contender with a great QB. Get over it.

Goodbye, Andre, the Texans first super-star, and a true hero of the game. I hope you never catch another pass.

Beef up the front 7, kill Luck. Can't catch too many passes from a QB who's on his ass most of the game.

The Texans already have a better defense. Just count on Mallett/Hoyer and Hopkins and, uh, the Texans other receiving threats to score more points.

What is the Texans cap hit in 2015 for A.J.? Isn't it like $6.5 million?

I'm very curious why this deal could not have been made in H-town...unless he just wanted out no matter what and/or the Texans were done with him for whatever reason(s).

I'm still not completely buying into the 40 catch/backup role conversation.

Among other things, H-Town doesn't offer a contender with a great quarterback. They offer Mallett or Hoyer behind an offensive line that is being reworked.

I would have liked to see him go to the Seahawks or another team. But given the history of the Colts, usually winning the AFC south, it looks like an almost sure bet to get into the playoffs from his perspective.

While I am mixed on this thought it would be rather harsh if the Texans went to the SB this year after having swept the colts in the division for the first time.

I have no ill will toward the man. He is the one that has to make the decisions for himself, and will have to live with them. There are very few people who know the behind the scene story. This decision very well maybe a stick it to the Texans, or it maybe just as I stated above based off of history. Then there is the coach who recruited him to the U, only he know the real reason.

Either way I wish him the best unless it means the Texans miss out on a SB. Then I don't wish him so much Luck.

With all the trades going on, this is going to be an interesting season coming up....Can't wait!

We're using up as much cap this year as the Colts, maybe more - $7.3 mil.

I'm sticking with my surmise: OB/Smith didn't want AJ but knew McNair wouldn't allow an outright cut and so made an intentionally offensive presentation to him to get him to ask for his release.

Why F him? Because the Texans released him and he wants to win? Geez, get over it.

Texans released a whining diva who was butt-hurt and acted like a little *****. Until the act he pulled last off-season I would have truly been saddened by his departure. Now, while I wish him no ill, appreciate what he did for most of his career with the Texans, and admire the talent he displayed in his prime ... it no longer bothers me to see him go.

Not the talent he once was. Has developed a childish attitude.

Bye.

See what happens in Indy.

I don't think it will work out the way he thinks.

Make no mistake. He now plays for the enemy. Thus, he IS the enemy. AJ knew that before signing, so he should expect to be treated as such.

Eff em.

I'm over Andre being a Colt. It happens and this just adds sizzle to the games next season.

Thanks for all you did as Texan but now you are with them.
