Andre Johnson released - cut by Colts - signs with Titans

I don't understand why there is so much rage and hate that he might go to the Colts anyway.

The Colts defied the football gods by sucking for one player.

They never paid the price to rebuild. They suck for one 2-14 season - still beating the Texans in Indy, btw - and then end up with the next great QB after having Peyton Manning for so many years??

That's just not right. And they must pay for their blasphemy!

And Houston needs tear down the 'dome for its own exorcism.

^all within the "football bubble", of course. I'm actually an atheist when it comes to the football gods. If they exist, they are all STD-infected a-holes that are probably Steelers fans.

And as @LanceZierlein also reported, Andre Johnson and Frank Gore scheduled to fly together from Miami to Indy on @JimIrsay's plane.

Hey guys, if he play for the Colts, he must be considered a traitor? What do you think, guys?

In the other three years he had Schaub as a QB he was injured. 2007 he played in 9 games and had 851 yards, 2010 he played in 13 games for 1216 yards and in 2011 he played in 7 games where he had 492 yards receiving. Those years weren't wasted by his QB either.

Andre's direct quote was something like "I look forward to playing with a GREAT quarterback"

It is what it is.

I think that was a statement about the Texans' QB situation the last year and going forward, not one about Schaub.

Andre cares about money. If it was anything about a QB he would have been gone long ago.

Nope. Other than TDs, Schaub and AJ were one of the most productive pairings in NFL history.

Wonder if Dre will put up a stink with Coby Fleener over no. 80 ...

actually I remember reading that in his exit interview about what he looks forward to in his next team, might be a dig at Schaub if anything.

Remember reading what that could be taken as a dig at Schaub?

Saying I want to go play with a great QB is a reach to say is a dig at Schaub. He's talking about next year - it's the current Texans v. what's out there.

Lol people are actually blaming the Texans for making a smart business move?

You are assuming it is smart. What they do with the cap space/how they replace Andre's production remains to be seen. These factors play into the final "smartness" of the decision.

Anyway, this thread had moved on to preemptively bashing Andre for making a smart business decision.

“Wherever I go, I hope I can play with a great quarterback,” Johnson said Monday. “I don’t know. I’m just going to wait and see what happens. A lot of these teams want young players, so we’ll just see what happens. I am open to visiting teams.”

In the context of the exchange here. JT was saying that Schaub WAS a great QB for Dre, I beg to differ and would argue that with a better talent at that position Dre would have had astronomical stats, and might have retired a Texan. So I just insinuated that the comment above could be understood as a dig, Its pretty standard operating procedure for a receiver to make that statement I would guess, I just found it curious how upfront he was about it.

A receiver making that much money should have a high usage rate and be the number one, it's not happening.

The Colts are a logical place for Andre to go. They need a receiver, have a good quarterback, have a reasonable shot at post season success.

As for the the Texans, they are helped out because Andre is making the Colts use salary cap space for his non-productive, prima donna presence.*

It's a win-win, right?

*Note: This is sarcasm. I don't think he's non-productive, I don't think he's a prima donna, and I don't believe there is any trophy for clearing the most cap space.

==========================

I don't understand why there is so much rage and hate that he might go to the Colts anyway. O'Brien took Andre's measure and found him wanting. He's moving on to where he hopes to find the best situation for him and his goals.

The NFL is just a business - if people shouldn't be upset because he is cut, why be upset if he goes to the Colts?

To the bolded, it's because those are blanket statements that don't apply universally to everyone on the forum.
Some people are upset that he was cut, others say they shouldn't be. Some say they will be upset if he goes to the Colts, some say they shouldn't be.

Andre just posted on instagram saying he's in miami enjoying the weather. What gives?

a) it's home for him and it is still the off-season. And he trains there.
b) he doesn't really have an NFL home right now so why not go back and chill out back with his homies until (if?) he gets some offers?

Shows how much better the weather is in Miami than Houston right now .. and like all the time.

Release one old receiver who knows your system and sign another old receiver who doesn't. Colts not real bright it seems. Also Gore used to be a beast, but he like Dre is on the downside of his career. They must think these two have enough left in the tank to help them win right now this year, because there won't be much left after that.

I like it. Sign all the old almost washed ups you want. Thanks for handing us the division title for the foreseeable future.

I never said Schaub was a great QB. I said he maximized Andre. In every year they were together that AJ played a full 16 game season Andre put up over 1,400 yards receiving. Unless you're expecting Calvin Johnson 1,700 yards type seasons then I would say he was maximized to his full ability while Schaub was his QB.

Other than scoring TDs, or rather not scoring them, I agree with you.

Isnt the lack of TDs the first argument people make against Dre in the Hall?

I just cant shake all those times Dre had to wait and look at his watch for the ball to get to him. Underthrow after underthrow. Carr to Schaub , same weak arm.

Bingo. And Uncle Melton hasn't finished negotiating with teams, yet.

Having been released, AJ doesn't have to wait for the FA period to begin. He could sign with a team immediately if he wanted.
Of all people, I am sure you know that. Just piggy backing on your post.

Man I love Andre, but if he signs with the Colts man I'm gonna be pissed. There are two teams that I would root against AJ at, the Colts and the Ravens, other than that I don't care. That would be salt in the wound.

Not saying you are wrong, just waiting for official confirmation. But it definitely appears to be so.

I agree with you. I was just showing where I saw the info. I'll still cheer for the guy, he gave alot here but it sucks seeing him go somewhere else. Esp playing him twice a year now

I would as well. I just don't know if that's really an option for him. They just gave Cobb a boatload of money....They already have Nelson and they have that young kid that came on for them in the playoff game last year against Dallas.

I'm still hoping for another Daniel Manning Style Homecoming after he finds out his market value.

Gore was all set to sign with the Eagles. Saw reports that Andre called him to change his mind to team up in Indy. Didn't they play at Miami together? Doesn't Chuck Pagano have some Miami ties?

This feels like a foregone conclusion that he'll end up with the Colts. Sounds like he's really bitter about his time in Houston and wants to stick it to the Texans.

Whatever. He's my favorite Texan ever, but I'm not rooting for him in Indy. He'll be dead to me if he goes there.

I'll give him applause when he walks out onto NRG for the first time next year, but right when the game starts it's all gonna be different. Just another Colts player that i want our guys to destroy.

Gore and AJ overlapped a year at Miami. Pagano was the secondary coach in Miami when AJ joined the team but was gone by the time Gore got there.

I'm trying to figure out how going to play with Luck for a division champion is bitterness.

I hope they go to the colts. If just means the Texans need to draft to beat them. Win the division. Go to the playoffs. The better our division is, the tougher we become.

My how time flies. I remember when Houston was as proud of the Eighth Wonder of the World as it was of NASA and the Spaghetti Bowl and before the Medical Center was anything more than a few Hospitals fairly close together. Westheimer was still West of Houston and not West Houston.

Now it's something that need's to be exorcised?

It appears right now that the Colts might be the only team with a good QB that is interested in A.J. If that is the case, who can blame him?

Now, if he's received interest from the Packers but chooses the Colts, then I could not help but wonder if personal feelings came into play.

We won't know until the dust settles, and even then we may never find out.

If AJ goes to the Colts I hope for nothing more than for Luck to break his leg and the Colts to go 4-12.

The Texans didn't trade you to Oakland for a 7th round pick, AJ. Have the decency to keep it out of the division.

Somewhere I heard the pats were interested.

That's probably how I feel about it. If the Colts are the only interested team with a decent QB, so be it. But if Seattle and NE show interest, and he settles on Indy, that's going to be a little tough to take for me.

Again, it's obviously within his right to go play wherever he wants to. But I hate the Colts more than any other team in the league. Can't wish Dre luck if he's playing for them.

I want them to go 7-9 or 8-8 for the rest of their existence.

If Seattle or NE make him an offer and he picks the Colts (assuming the offers are competitive) then yeah, bitterness probably plays a factor.

Seattle just added $8 mil to their cap with the Graham trade.

I learned a long time ago not to cheer for the player, only the team. It's a tough business, if AJ wants to stick it to Houston and play for Indy then by all means go right ahead. I will find it absolutely hilarious if he goes and plays for them and it turns out to be the first season that the Texans win in Indy.

Decency? The Texans didn't owe Andre anything. He certainly doesn't owe them anything.

If this ends up happening I am going to be pissed off. The Texans and Andre Johnson really screwed this up...

I guess the old saying is true. If you cant beat'em, join'em...

If true, how did Andre screw up? He mistakenly wins the division a couple of times to finish his career? He accidentally got in contention for a Super Bowl?
