Andre Johnson is OK, just a dislocated finger. He'll be fine, eats spinach

I heard this on the Ottawa sports station... that's the first time they've ever mentioned the Houston Texans. Glad to hear AJ's alright, though.

Can we pay him some more money? I know he is the highest paid receiver but he can't possibly be getting what he is worth. We need to give him a 1mil bonus every time he proves he is the toughest SOB in the league... just IMO though

then the texans would go bankrupt ;)

AJ should do fine overall. Because he had an "open" dislocation even though a small skin break, infection is a risk. The classic time of infection presentation is between the 3rd and 5th day following injury. If he avoids this, it is unlikely that a later infection ensues. He will probably have his finger splinted for ~ 3-6 weeks if splinted straight or <3 weeks if splinted flexed depending on the exact nature and extent of the injury. Continued pain and subtle problems with function can be present for a year or more. The main concern AJ would have as an athlete is that re-dislocation in the future is not uncommon.

Thank you good doctor. Been waiting for this assessment all evening.

I dislocated my right pinkie when I was 15. Reached for a football, the guy moved it and my pinkie jammed into his rib area...plink! my pinkie dislocated.

Had to go to an orthopedic in Lubbock where they x-ray'd it first to make sure nothing was broken. Wasn't, so they shot me up and snapped it back into place.

I'm 35 now, and it is weak as hell. If I reach for something wrong and torque the pinkie a bit, it lets me know "Don't do that again, please!" Even in normal flexing of it, I can sense it's weaker than the rest of my fingers.

No big "pain," but there's a decrease in stability for sure. I guess those ligaments got stretched to a point they shouldn't have. Then again, it was 45 minutes before my mom came and got me. Another 45 to get to Lubbock. And about 10 or 15 minutes of x-ray, and about 10 minutes to shoot up and get it popped back in place.

That's about 2 hours with it being in a zig-zagging formation and hurting like hell. AJ popped his in pretty quickly, IIRC, so I wonder if that helps him out. He's also lucky it was on his left hand.

Some small amount of residual dysfunction is always possible. Significant long term instability due to ligament stetching/damage is most common after cases of delayed reduction of the dislocated finger or in those that involve difficult reduction. Certainly, repeated dislocations become worrisome as they are a set up for further damage to and/or deformity of the joint/finger. These are examples of history that can lead to unacceptable instability or functionality, with subsequent need for surgical reconstruction.

What? You don't read my posts?

I've posted several times that I'd like to get Smith in here even though there are some Qs about his health. I expect him to go back to the Giants, though. And I'm not sure we've got the cap space for him.

Not the case at all-I guess I missed it somehow.

I've just seen the excitement about other players (Moss, Edwards, etc) and nothing about Smith. I think he'd be a great pick up for a year.

In other words, GP, suck it up you wimp ;)

Jesus. When I heard about it Pallilo was cracking wise saying they had "located" his finger. I really thought he had somehow LOST a finger.

So I'm feeling a lot better about a dislocation! We know where Andre will be on gameday so hopefully they let him have time to heal up before then. Besides, is anyone in the history of ever TOUGHER than Andre Johnson?
