Im sure many of you are crushed, rightfully so that Charlie didnt take Reggie Bush. Im a New York Giants fan from birth, but ive lived in houston the last 10 years so I know what football means down there. Personally i cant belive you passed on Reggie... but then again back in 2000, the Giants took a Heisman trophy winning running back that set every NCAA record (Ron Dayne) shudder... and we turned out to be a total waste... I guess there is no such thing as a sure thing. Im sure many of you are mad that Charile Didnt trade down, they could have gotten a serious, serious amount of stuff in colateral for that #1 spot (look at what the chargers got from my Giants to move basicly move up 3 spots (although it was players traded, not picks))

The thing i dont understand about Williams is this.... There are very few people that have the abilities that Bush does... running, cutting back, catching the ball and returning kicks and punts. All Williams is is a pass rushing D end... i mean there is Strahan, Osi Unemyoria, Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeny.... Bush had the opportunity to come into the league and be something that no one else has... Williams is just a nice pass rushing end.. and a pass rushing end doesnt make a defense.. you need linebackers and corners (ie. look at the Giants defense last year... we have the best statistical pass rushing ends (strahan and umenyoria) however we couldnt stop anyone on 3rd down because of no secondary....

Anyways good luck with the draft guys... maybe you can nab Lendale White with that 33rd pick

Welcome to the board!

First off, I think you aren't getting the importance of a DE who can get to QB's and defend the run. The guys you listed are a huge reason why those defenses are so good. Apparently Freeney was more important to the Colts than Edge James (who has been one of the best backs in the NFL since he came into the league), since they let Edge go and are trying to ink Freeney to a long-term deal. Stud DE's are important and we're not the only team in the NFL who thinks they are more important than running backs.

Taking the star lineman is the easiest copout, it's like taking the star center out of college instead of the spectacular small guard.

This decision was all about the $ and getting the player signed before the draft. They get to pay Williams a little less and now they don't have to think about negotiations anymore with the top pick. I bet they'll wish they did a few months from now.

!@#$. You don't draft for need at #1, especially in this draft. Draft the BPA (which is not Williams, get real) and adjust. Not hard to understand.

And besides, it's not like Davis is the posterboy for health. Even when healthy he's a somewhat above average back, but not someone who is worth passing Bush for.

In addition, we'll see just how hard of a time the Saints have finding a partner to trade the pick that could be used on Bush.

So the Texans go with the cheap pick, the safe pick and the pick without a slightly embarassing story in the press this week.

How much do they expect us to pay for season tix again?

I would hardly call this a "safe pick". Bush was the safe pick, not Williams. That's why everyone is crying boo hoo right now.

I think Charlie would have loved to have traded down but from the sound of things not many teams were interested. Instead they decided to address a need and they need a DE they already have a solid running back in Davis so as good as Bush is (and he is awesome) taking a back isn't a priority. I may be in a minority but I think they made a good decision, they couldn't trade down so they took the player they felt would help improve the team the most. Now the question is how far will Bush fall? I think NO will take him but if they dont i think he could fall to the Jets at 4 would they take him? probably, but with this draft who knows!

It was a safe move because the team didn't have the stomach to take the back at #1. They selected Williams to satiate their fear of a bigtime RB bust instead of drafting to hit the homerun. They played it safe in so many ways with this pick. Less money, less uncertainty, and less upside.

i dont get how you can say they played it safe? they went against what everyone thinks! everyone thought Bush would be #1 and they went against them all how is that playing it safe? the safe thing to have done would have been take the guy everyone expects you to take!!
