I was just watching ESPN news and in showed a screen about how the Pats LBs have the most sacks by any core in the league. And to my suprise the texans were fifth in the league with something like 14.4 sacks. Which makes me wonder, along with the 20 something picks by the secondary and LBs, what does this defense need the most?

If this is saying the Texans LBs have the 5th most sacks among NFL LBs, that's not that surprising. How many teams run the 3-4, in which sacks are as much on the LBs as on the line?

Right. For relavance, stick with apples to apples; how do we compare with
the other 3-4 Ds ? Not very impressive on that basis, 'cause from that view we're near the bottom.

We already have a decent LB corp, the only person I'd replace is Foreman...

To me, it would be more important to get some younger D-Lineman that could handle the O-Line and allow our LBs to get clean shots on the QB...

totally agree we need more dominant d-lineman...i think smith could fill the need at NT for us...we need to draft a strong, QUICK, d-lineman for the end spot...spears or shaun cody fits that bill the best

I dunno about quick.. big and strong are my main wants.. someone who can put pressure on the QB.. but he doesnt have to be a sack machine. All he has to do is be big enough to plug holes, strong enough to push back the Oline.. and as far as speed goes.. if he is quick enough and skilled enough that he requires a double team.. he would be perfect.

His job is to free up the OLBs and stop the run.. if he gets a little pressure on the QB.. that is just extra.

Another interesting stat to check. Rushin TD's allowed by the defense. We had very few rushing TD's while allowing a high number of passing TD's. I think this reflects a DL that is reading the plays more and reacting less. I would like to see our 3 DL starters disrupt the QB's path more often. They don't need sacks, but they should be altering the QB's plan and pushing the QB toward a blitzing LB.

The sacks by the LB's is only valuable when comparing 3-4 defenses as it was already noted.

:howdy: If you have DL who are strong enough at the point of attack and quick enough to disrupt you have to double team him. The more play makers the more offense starts thinking and having to adjust . They are then playing on their heels. A 300 lb DE is a big DE . Spears and Cody are Both around 300 lbs . They both seem athletic . My thought would be a tall DE ( 6 ft 6 in - 6 ft 7 in )about 320 lbs would be perfect .
