An assumption we are all making

Jackass of Day!
That might not be true. I've heard that this is a deep draft for offensive lineman, and free agency has some winners. Fair enough. This is also a deep draft for tight ends. Fair enough. What if, in our infinite genious, we dont do anything to address EITHER of those areas this offseason? I think we should be clamoring for competency in our 2nd-7th round picks just as bad as everyone is fighting for the first. Whoever is under center, whoever is running back, if we dont address the trenches and safety valve, i will be very disheartened.

While many of us like draft talk a ton, any of it is premature until well into March and April. Remember the team does not officially have a head coach or offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator. That has to come first. It is hard say that the Texans need (with some exception) until we know what type of offense or defense that will be ran.

Before that there will be the FA period which is really the first place teams attempt to resolve their most obvious needs. IMO, the Texans have become better at finding the 2nd and 3rd level FA who can fill in short term needs until younger player develop. High dollar FA are exciting, but league wide very few live up to the price tag.

All of that is to say, by the draft the Texans may or may not "need" whatever position seems like a weakness now and all of us just need to be patient allowing some of this stuff to unfold a bit starting with getting a head coach and his staff.

I would be one willing to agree but the issue of the frist pick has overshadow'ed everything and clouded even competent draft experts like myself  hence a post thread I had started hours after the Rose Bowl http://www.houstontexans.com/fan_zone/messageboards/showthread.php?t=16612

What has us all up in arms (besides the fact Vince Young is coming out) is the Texans seem to be in a rush to extend David Carr. Don't Do It!

Agreed, they really had no reason to publically state that Carr was getting an extension until after they hired a head coach.

True, but at the same time McNair and Casserly both really like Carr (as do I) so I'm sure they'll make sure that whatever coach they bring in is equally as high on Carr (many of the coaching candidates, and coaches from other teams for that matter, have been praising Carr for weeks).
