Am I the only one with no animosity towards Dunta?

I know alot of people here seem to have it in for the guy.. but personally I am still happy to have him.

I know there was alot of negative stuff flying around when he got mad for being franchised...and his hold out.. and then this whole shoe thing.

But thats all the business side of things and, while that stuff is important and all... it really isnt the MOST important thing to me.

What IS important to me is that Dunta was drafted by the Texans, has played hard for us since day one, and before his injury he was one of the best young CBs in the league.

He lost a step when he got injured..and that is understandable.. but whos to say he cant come back and be that player for us again?

Additionally.. Ive always liked that he speaks his mind and isnt afraid to be blunt about it. He isnt a showboat.. and he doesnt talk smack needlessly.. and what smack he does talk, he has backed up.

All in all.. I consider him to be "one of our own".. and possibly one of the best players we have on defense.. so im just hoping that the business side will work out and Dunta will find his groove again and return to the dominant CB he was in his first few years.

i don't hate the guy, i just don't think he's an upper echelon cb like some others do. i will if he proves he is, but i'll reserve judgement 'til then.

As long as we win, no one should care about anything from the past with Dunta. Isn't that all we really want, to win?

I don't hold any animosity towards Dunta.
I do think the no training camp business was sorta orchestrated. I've seen it before when vets didn't want to endure training camp. They hold out until it's over then - a miracle occurs - and the terms they found insulting all summer, were suddenly "okay". If I had a job offer with some company and they left it up to me when I had to report to work - I'd take a month or two off, if (1) they'd agree to that and (2) I could afford no paychecks for that period then I'd do it too. My daughter did it upon graduation from A&M. She got out in May and didn't start work until July 1st. When you have bargaining power it's stupid not to use it.

I think the business with the shoes was idiotic. He should have known that he was on thin ice with at least half the fanbase and this would push more of them over the "get-rid-of-him" edge.
Dumb. Reeeally dumb.

I think he has way over-valued his worth. He's good but not as good as he thinks he is. Give McCain or Glover a year in our system and one of them will take his job.

But am I mad at him?
No.
What's the point of that?

He's still the heart and soul of this team to me. By far the best vocal leader we have ever had to this point.

Is he a top 5 cover corner? No, but not many corners are. He does hit hard and gets the whole team and stadium jacked and I think it's valuable to us.

I hold no animosity for a guy who is just a product of the NFL and the money they give players these days.

It's all business as far as I'm concerned. I am more worried about them paying him long term than I am about him. I don't want them to waste money on him if he doesn't play well. So far, he's played very average, like a guy who didn't practice for 4 months.

I understand the business side of the game and the only part about it that upsets me is the "dance" of it all.

They fra.nchised him, he didn't show up until he was getting payed. Okay. You wouldn't show up to your job if you weren't getting paid for it either.

That's fine. Nothing wrong with that. If he plays wonderfully and deserves a long term then give it to him. thus far.... i'm not seeing it and I think in the end they will get his value's worth for him.

I'm a big BIG fan of our GM and this kind of stuff is why.

Dunta Robinson is still one of my favorite. I am looking forward to him laying the wood on someone this weekend.

I'm tired of hearing about him being the biggest little hitter this side of the ball and anxiously await the day when this mythical, legendary skill appears on the field again. Tackling in the secondary is below below-average and he's part of it. For 10 mil that he complains about. No, I don't hate the person but yes, the player is getting on my last nerves.

His off the field antics got old quick this last off season. Animosity? No. Do I think he's dumber than I thought. Yes.

Producing on the field can change minds though.

I think it all comes down to him just thinking he's a better cover corner than he really is. I think he really believes he deserves more that what the Texans will pay him and the shoe thing is just his frustration coming out.

One thing he really needs to do is just start hitting people again because he's whiffing on tackles right now. Apparently, he did shut down somebody in Tennessee, but that's probably not saying much.

I don't have an animosity towards the guy. I don't know these guys. I used to think of him as a favorite because he seemed like a hard worker, a hard hitter, a guy who wanted to win and I liked that he had the balls to call out Carr and tell the truth. But that has changed on a player level for me.

He held out wanting Top 5 money and he isn't even near a Top 5 CB. His best year was as a rookie and he hasn't touched that since. With an injury no team will pay him that money. So he held out and he needed camp.

So he comes back not in full football shape, gets to start and then pulls the shoe stunt and the comments after. A completely bush league move and pretty B-Team.

Add that to his play which hasn't been up to snuff and the fact that he is trying to be aggressive by being stupid...the non-flagged calls, etc and I have a hard time really trusting the guy as a defensive leader or player. Maybe he steps it up as the games go on.

So overal, no animosity at all but I lost alot of respect and don't think he is so talented right now that he is doing much more than anyone else. His actions aren't really "leader-like." What else can you say. It isn't the same Dunta as a few years back so I'm not going to act like it is. People act like he was "needed." At this point, I'm not sure.

This. :goodpost:

rep your way. nicely put.

Regardless of how any of us feel, he needs to not make any boneheaded mistakes like he did at the end of the Tennessee game, he almost got a personal foul after the Collins fumble, that could have cost us the game.

STUPID FREAKIN' MOVE, one more like that and I will have all kinds of problems with him.

I RESPECTFULLY disagree. Robinson for the bulk of the time he's been here, has been one of the leaders on the Texan's defense and at points has been doing the work of TWO CBs out there. If the Texans cut him, he'll find his way onto a roster than will PAY him what he's worth and retire with a superbowl ring. The man has been busting his butt for the franchise since game one. Pay him already. Now FINE ME RICK!

You're right...it's not like he's coming off an INJURY or anything...OH WAIT...he is. Give the man a minute to shake the rust off why don't cha? That season after Polomalu came back from an injury wasn't his most stellar, but he regained his edge. Thus shall it be with Dunta. Give Dunta the same courtesy. Besides we're what 2 whole games into the season?

No!

The season has started and I could care less about the business side of things until the final whistle of our final game.

He's still probably our best CB on the roster. I like the way he plays the game.

Anyone still holding a grudge from the off season should just let it go, we've got games to play.

The guy lost a step that he couldn't afford to lose. Dunta was an average cover corner who isn''t even that now that he lost a step.

Duntas greatest asset was his ability to tackle and maybe because he missesed TC or it looks like he is playing not to get hurt his tackling ability has fallen off. This has made him a below average CB at this point in the season. I have hope that he will pick it up as the season wears on.

Shoe gate thing tells me he is all about himself and doesn't really want to be a Texan anymore. I cant blame him for wanting to get out of town with the robbery and all.

I think Smith made a good call on this situation. Franchising Dunta was the right thing to do until he proves himself to be back to 100%. IMO

I agree...but Dunta...get a haircut. No one has dreadlocks anymore except self important jerks and weirdos.

I think lots of people weren't bothered by all the off field stuff shoe stuff that was mainly media drivel. I think he adds to the defense and I'm happy he is here.

Yeah. Me, too. I mean, there was no need to start getting chippy there.

It was kind of a stupid thing to do.

I might be wrong here, but it would've been a dead ball foul. It would've just backed our offense up 15 yards. I don't think it would've given the titans a 1st down.

I think you're right about it being a dead ball foul after I think about it, still dumb though to cost your team yardage in a crucial situation.

I hope to see him play well and get back to laying the wood.

I'll root for the guy as long as he's in a Texans uniform. His TC hold out is whatever, his shoe display was goofy, but at this point in time, just play ball and don't cost us games.

I don't hold any animosity towards Dunta and the fans that did really don't have a reason to and will be right back pulling for the guy. Remember how our fairweather fans didn't like Mario at first but I can't find hardly anyone now that will admit to being for Bush or Vince.

i don't hate the guy, i just don't think he's an upper echelon cb like some others do. i will if he proves he is, but i'll reserve judgement 'til then.

Why do you feel the need to compare him to other CBs on other teams...he is definately upper echelon on the Texans and thats all that really matters to me. I can only think of a few CBs in the league that I would trade him for...I can count them on one hand. You can't tell me you didn't go nuts on a few plays last week when he brought the wood..lol

I can appreciate all the fine points brought up about his holding out; I can also appreciate the comments regarding the 'shoe incident', although I sure wish that he didn't do it (man I hate that kind of stuff); BUT, I can let bygones be bygones.

Play ball, don't play games.

Let's win this season, AND the division, and put this 'culture of losing' behind us!

I ready for some smash mouth, Texas "House of Pain" style football that my football jones is a cravin'!

Go Texans!!! :trophy:

I got nothing against Dunta.

I just think he wants to go somewhere else.

BINGO!!

All said and done, he's still a TEXAN and as long as he wears a TEXAN uni, I'll support him 100%. I just want HIM to put all this crap behind him and WANT to be a TEXAN 100%! It's all up to Dunte, not the fans!

I'm not mad at Dunta, I still think he's a decent corner (and the best we've got) but at the same time I do view him in a different light after the past couple months.

You do not have to like a player to cheer for them on gameday. I don't care for Dunta anymore, don't really care for Schaub either, but come gameday I'm a big fan of theirs. There's just no way a person is going to actually "like" everyone, so who cares?

I had no animosity against him until the shoes. He has always been one of my favorite Texans, but he presented the perception that he's a "paycheck player" now, which he never was in the past. I liked the old Dunta. That's not to say he can't get back to that, but he has to play with heart on the field like he used to and go to the mattresses in business off the field.

And if the business side of things keeps him off the field, well there's two sides to business, so I don't blame him any more than I do the other side. But keep that crap off the field.

I don't think anyone has any animosity to the man Dunta Robinson, but as a player he's lost a lot of fan respect. He hasn't helped his cause by his play either.

I think more then getting paid he wants out of Houston.

I got nothing against Dunta.

I just think he wants to go somewhere else.

My thoughts exactly and if this proves to be the case I don't think it will be like trying to replace a cornerstone or anything. He's a good CB but he's not a "franchise" player or a "shut down" CB. He's good. I think he believes he's worth a lot of money and somebody will probably give it to him. If he can get it I'm happy for him.

I just don't want to see the Texans pay him that way.

It's not the hold-out that irritates me ... it's his non-chalant attitude about everything team related and his current "it's all about me" attitude.

It's one thing to have a "business" disagreement with management, but a true "professional" handles it differently and keeps his "team" as the focus of his attitude and outward expressions.

If I were Texan management, I couldn't wait to be in position to unload him.

i don't hate the guy, i just don't think he's an upper echelon cb like some others do. i will if he proves he is, but i'll reserve judgement 'til then.

I agree. I don't think he's upper echelon, but the market for CB's is inflated. Kinda like left handed pitchers.

I don't blame the guy one bit for wanting to cash in and see how much he's worth on the open market.

I just want to win football games.

I don't have any thing against DR, and hold no animosity. I understand there is a big business side of football, but I don't think he handled his business very well. There is a system in place, and he's not working it very well. He didn't gain anything by sitting out of TC, which hurt the team. And right now he's not showing anyone that he is worth being paid like a top 5 CB. I sure hope he proves that he is fully recovered and can play like a top 5 corner though, and will be glad if they sign him to a big long term contract. I may change my mind later in the season, but right now it wouldn't surprise me if they let him walk via FA after the season.....

I don't have any animosity towards him but then again I don't contribute to his paycheck other than watching them on TV.

Many fans on this board pay huge amounts to actually go see the guy play and I totally get where that would tick them off.

He's handled the whole thing very poorly.

I think he'll be elsewhere next year.

Ok, then I'll say I'm the first to hold animosity against DR. He was great his first season...and then decent the seasons after that. There's no doubt he was an explosive hitter, but his coverage skills were average. He called out his teammate, which a lot of you think is commendable, but for me, I look down on that, no matter how bad David Carr was doing, you can complain about the team, and how the team isn't doing well, but once you start whining about other players when you yourself aren't doing great, it becomes a problem.

Then he gets injured. Yes, I know he was injured, so we can't expect him to be playing super well now. And people start screaming "JUST PAY HIM!" You know what? We ARE paying him. Top 10 corner money, which he is NOT worth. Then he's being paid top 10 corner money and he makes a little passive-aggressive jab at his boss with his childish shoe nonsense.

And for those of you who say, "I don't care if he's a top corner, he's OUR best corner on the team." So? Eugene Wilson is our best safety, and people are non-stop calling for safeties. Deljuan Robinson is arguably our best Dtackle, but does that mean he's worth top 10 money? I don't care that he's our best, in fact, that's more of a statement of how sad our corners are. That an above average corner coming off injury is our number one corner.

The last reason I hold animosity against DR is his double talk. He talks a lot about loving the city of Houston and the Texans, but it's obvious, at leas to me, that he wants to cash in and leave town, or else he wouldn't be so adamant about not being franchised a second time. Then we talk about his heart and soul and how Dunta is a leader of the defense. But then we see his true colors with "Pay Me Rick". Because apparantly, that's all he's there for. A paycheck.

Boy, for a minute there, I thought I was the only one who is sick to death of this "but he's the best CB on the team" BS.

Rep coming at ya.

Yes you are the only one........

If he was really offered 23 mil, and this is how he plays then yeh there is a lot of animosity. It should be interesting when he's a free agent next year to see what he gets. If he's not in a Texans uni next year I bet he gets no more than like 3 million per year with half of what he wanted guaranteed.

I loved Dunta, and it's impressive that he can back at any level, but dude you get what your worth, and Reeves is a better option than you, sorry but that's life.
