Earl Campbell is the best power back of all time, and Barry Sanders is the best finesse back of all time. I'm just not sure either of them is the best overall back though.

Barry was a better runner than Emmitt. Emmitt was a better RB (when you combine blocking, running and receiving) than Barry. Barry's not close to being the best all-around RB. That would belong to Walter Payton...IMO.

Just think what "Sweetness" could have done if he did not play on so many bad teams. Everyone knew he was getting the ball.

The dude was a class act and a stud to go with it.

Bo Jackson as the first team all time NFL running back? is this a joke?

You're acting like someone put Wali Lundy up there...

I think Bo is a legit contender....

Bo had the talent and is one of the best (and is why he should be condsidered), but his injury shortened career is what would keep me from putting at the top of the all time list. Just not enough years doing it (for me anyway).

I agree...

But I don't think he is so far off from being considered that it calls for a "are you serious" line....

QB: Warren Moon - was every bit as dominant as any QB in the history of the NFL, but never had that complete team around him like Montana did. Staubach would be up there just for his field presence and ability to lead the comebacks.

RB: Earl Campbell - was the best RB ever for about a three-to-four year period, IMO. That's not long enough, really, but he was in a different league.

RB: Walter Payton - the most complete back ever, with heart like no other.

WR: Jerry Rice - the best ever.

WR: Bob Hayes - changed the way WR was played and recruited int he NFL.

TE: Kellen Winslow - the Chargers really brought the passing game to the forefront like no one before them and Winslow was a huge part of that.

LT: Anthony Munoz - there were some really good Bengals teams in the '80s with Ken anderson and later, Esiason. Munoz anchored those lines.

LG: Larry Allen - dominant lineman. The Cowboys line is the reason people don't respect what Emmitt did.

C: Munchak - everyone here knows how good he was.

RG: Matthews - ditto.

RT: Jackie Slater - the Rams are one of those teams that are easy to forget about from the 70s and 80s, but Slater and Rich Saul and the rest of that line kept that team among the top teams during that era.

D-line: Too many great ones, so I'll just list a few favorites - Deacon Jones, Ed Jones, Carl Eller, Alan Page, Elvin Bethea, Curley Culp (doesn't get the respect he deserves!), Reggie White, Charles Haley

LB: same as above - Butkus, Singletary, LT, Robert Brazile, Derrick Thomas, Chuck Howley, Randy White

CB: Renfro, Deion Sanders, Darrell Green, Everson Walls

S: Lott (#1 safety ever), Tatum

K: Stenerud

P: Ray Guy

Coach: Noll, Landry, Shula

QB: Dan Marino
RB: Walter Payton
RB: Barry Sanders
WR: Lynn Swann
WR: Jerry Rice
TE: Ozzie Newsome
T: Anthony Munoz
G: Bruce Matthews

Austin sports radio could use a breath of fresh thinking like that. (just kidding):tease:

My ALL-TIME team:

QB: John Elway
RB: Jim Brown
FB: Larry Csonka
WR: Jerry Rice
WR: Cris Carter
TE: Tony Gonzalez
T: Anthony Muñoz
G: Bruce Matthews
C: Mike Webster
G: Larry Allen
T: Jonathan Ogden

DE: Reggie White
DT: Joe Greene
DT: Alan Page
DE: Bruce Smith
OLB: Lawrence Taylor
MLB: Ray Lewis
OLB: Jack Ham
CB: Deion Sanders
S: Ronnie Lott
S: Jack Tatum
CB: Rod Woodson

With a team like this, there would be no need for a K and P....

HC: Chuck Noll

I love this lineup, but you have to make room for Deacon Jones at DE, and Earl Campbell at RB. Could you imagine how wore out a defense would be in the 4th Quarter after being pounded by Czonka and Campbell all day?

QB: Joe Montana (49ers)
RB: Eric Dickerson (Rams)
RB: Earl Campbell (Oilers)
WR: Lynn Swann (Steelers)
WR: Jerry Rice (49ers)
TE: Dave Casper (Raiders)

DE: Howie Long (Raiders)
LB: Jack Lambert (Steelers)
LB: Mike Singletary (Bears)

CB: Lester Hayes (Raiders)
SS: Ronnie Lott (49ers)
FS: Jack Tatum (Raiders)
CB: Mel Blount (Steelers)
PK: Adam Vinateri (Colts)
P: Ray Guy (Raiders)

Coach: John Madden (Raiders)

Don't need a second team. These guys were some of the toughest to ever play.

Like some of yours over the experts. Shula is the coach. How he got that rag tag lot to an unbeaten season in 72 is anyones guess.

Tatum is the Strong saftey, Ronnie Lot the Free safty. Mel Blount befor the rule change dominated his era. Blount and Prime time are the corners. Don't agree with L.C. Greenwood. How you can leave Bob Lilly off the list is absurd. Need to switch positions Joe Green and Reggie White. Tony Gonzales could play in any era but Ozzie Newsome did it when they didn't pass very much.
Agreed on the Ghost though. No one could cover the guy in his era. And he blocked. Won't find many who are better longer at right tackle than Jon Runyan. he's not there yet and I may not live to see it, but he'll go to the HOF one day.

I agree with this one also. Give the old timers there due. Love Munch...not sure he makes this list though. Still say Mel Blunt makes the list. He was the prime time of his day...WRs feared him. L. C. Greenwood does not belong on this list. Love your o-line though.

You're right about Munoz . I think the younger guys just know modern players .

Just thinking about it I agree. Hard to not give Munoz his slot. Mathews you can stick at left gaurd. Lot of great OLTs, hard cut. How about a true full back...a blocker ? Surprised that the guy who held the standard at RB for so long got no mention, Jim Brown. They all came out the same year who would you chose as your RB ? Jim Brown would be mine. Ronnie Lott is the free saftey. Any guy who would cut off the tip of his finger to stay with his team in the play offs beats anybody else . I don't care what kind of tallent they have. That's football there. Butkus could play with anyone in any era. Before he hurt his knees the guy could run with anyone. Not so sure if Urlacker doesn't catch him in a couple of years though. I loved singletary also, another hard cut. I was tring to think of the tweener LB who won all the rings rushing the passer with the Polkes and the niners...drawing a blank. Don't think he beats out Deacon...but he showed up in the big games for sure.

Check out this link, let me know where you find Bo listed -

http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/rushing

I couldn't find him either -

Even for guys who had a short career, they need to have done something in the seasons in which they played. The guy may have been a great athlete but to say he's better than OJ Simpson or Tony Dorsett, for example, just isn't credible. To even have his name in the discussion of "all time best NFL running backs" is ludicrous.
