Casserly should make Crumpler (free agent @ the end of season) his #1 off season aquistion this year. To pry him away from the Falcons & Vick is going to cost the Texans dearly. However make him an offer he cannot refuse even if it takes making him the highest paid TE in the NFL.

Alge has improved each of his first three seasons, 36 receptions as a rookie for 455 yards, then 44/552 in 2003 this season already 35/559 thru only 9 games. He has excellent hands & size, if Palmer/Carr had more confidence in their TE they would throw them the ball (especially on 1st down) far more often, Crumpler is not just an out he is a weapon. A weapon Carr lacks to balance the lack of a consistant running game.

If y'all get a chance to watch a Falcon game check him out & just imagine what Carr/Texans would be able to accomplish with Crumpler at TE.
 
First off, Peerful Price isnt, and never was a #1 reciever. He fed off of Eric Moulds. So yes, Alge is their #1 go to guy. And why would Mora and CO, let him go? Please tell me this?

We need to focus on other needs, like Linebackers, Safetys, and O and D Linemen.

first point, I never said they would let him go without a fight, thats why it would probably have to be the richest TE contract in the NFL. I'm sure Mora and CO are willing to pay him a huge increase, but with a home town discount, the Texans should not be discouraged and make him a better offer. Money talks

second point, the Texans drafted a linebacker in the 1st rd. last year, signed a top free agent RT (Wade) & DT (Smith), then re-signed would be FA S Coleman. I think that about covers that not to say not more help is needed via the draft but then you have to develop the talent because they don't have any NFL experience.

third point, the Texans NEED a TE. They are paying big bucks for a fleet, Joppru (thru no fault of his own or the Texans) has yet to make a contirbution. They Jury is still out if he ever will, alot would depend on his condition & even if he does he still will need to learn the NFL like a rookie plus on top of that lack of recent activity. Brunner/Miller just are not viable options for Carr otherwise they would be utilized.
 
Crumpler has impressed me this season and Carr would love to have a TE like that as an option.Whether the Texans will get him is another thing.
 
BIG $$$$$ to pry him away. Same problem we would have getting a premier RB away from a team. Love to have them, but the cap problems it could cause are not worth it at this stage of our development. Much better to grow our own IMO.
 
We wouldn't need to get Crumpler if we had drafted Jason Witten. Instead we got Joppru who may never play a down for us.
 
Yup, so far Bennie is nothing but a bad luck choice and not a bad choice. Might still see him come around, but I won't hold my breath. Tough injury to come back from. If he doesn't make it in the next couple of weeks, we might not even put him back on IR if it mitigates the cap hit in any way by just dropping him. It would be a shame, seems like he had good possibilities, but injuries are just a fact in the Not For Long league.

Just a heads up-
Wednesday Alge Cumpler will be on the Jim Rome show, although I don't know what time, hopefully in the 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm slot.

Lets just keep a open mind our options open & our dreams alive. I can't wait to listen to what kind of person he is, sense of humor, work ethic, goals & aspirations. He seems like AJ quiet off the field, but on the field one of the hardest most competitive players you can find. To me these type of players ARE worth paying a premium. This guy can just bust people up, grab & run with the rock. Demoralizing to defenses with AJ that would be a potent 1-2.
 
despite Rome constantly re setting the guest Alge Crumpler, it was a pretty good listen & informative. Alge is very bright, articulate and in only his third season grasps NFL life both on and off the field.

the question was raised "as a free agent at the end of the season will you explore other options"? while Alge made it clear he likes Atlanta & playing with Vick, he would do whats best for him and his family & certainly listen to other offers if they make sense.

mark your calender Casserly, if not we need to go TE in the draft, but realize the impact that Crumpler would make in the Texans offense and the time it would take to develop another very good tight end.

ATLANTA -- Turns out his game-winning touchdown catch wasn't the only thing Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler celebrated Sunday.

The four-year veteran, regarded as the premier tight end in the NFC and perhaps the best player overall at his position in the league, has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the Falcons and off the 2005 free agency market. Contract details were not immediately available, but it is believed the Falcons will announce the accord as early as Monday.


Falcons officials have made no secret of the importance of retaining Crumpler, who would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency next spring had the extension not been completed. It is likely that, absent an extension, Atlanta would have considered designating Crumpler a "franchise" player.


On-and-off negotiations have stretched over several months. The Falcons are believed to have substantially increased their offer from where it was a month or so ago.


Crumpler, 26, is an emerging star in the league and was chosen for his first Pro Bowl game in 2003. In what is becoming the NFL's "year of the tight end," he has emerged as the go-to receiver for Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, and that was evident again Sunday, when Crumpler had four catches for 103 yards.


That included the game-winning 20-yard touchdown catch against New Orleans with 1:22 remaining. Crumpler made both big plays on the two-snap drive, preceding his touchdown grab with a 27-yard reception. He has developed an undeniable synergy with Vick and clearly flourished in the offense installed by coordinator Greg Knapp.


For the season, Crumpler has 43 catches for 709 yards and six touchdowns, leading the Falcons in all three categories. The former North Carolina star already has posted career bests in all three receiving categories this season.


He has 16 receptions for 20 yards or more, the most in the NFL by a tight end. All four of his catches against the Saints were for 20 yards or more.


A second-round choice in the 2001 draft, Crumpler has 148 catches for 2,046 yards and 17 touchdowns in 59 career appearances, including 48 starts.
 
Well whoever said they don't let him walk or whatever is correct. The Falcons signed him to a 6 year extension.
 
bubba franks wouldn't give us the receiving te that we want, he is more of a blocker. he is a great target in the red zone but isn't that much of a passing target for the other 80 yards.
