AFC South

Doug

Rookie
I was just curious how everyone sees the afc south shaping up by the end of the year. Please be as realistic as possible.

1. Colts 11-5
2. Titans 9-7
3. Texans 8-8
4. Jags7-9

:twocents:

AFC South will be tough next couple of years... :fight:

Colts- As long as they stay helathy. Their depth is not all that good at QB, RB, WR.
Texans- I think our schedule, we could win 9 or 10 games, and I think some of our players are going to have career years.
Titans- I wouldn't doubt if Titans go in last place, but they do have McNair. Titans lost a lot of good players.
Jaguars- As long as they stay healthy, and have some people step it up. I could see them being in 2nd place.

Colts - agree with HTatB above (too friggin long of a name to type) :) They should take first if minimal injuries.

Titans - all depends on McNair. Knock him out, the Titans drop.

Texans - their position will depend on the above two. I would think about .500 ball this year.

Jags - defintely up and coming like the Texans. They're rebuilding in key positions as well. Will push the Titans and Texans and will do everything they can to stay out of the bottom.

Solid debate fellow Texan fans. I could be a year early but I would rather be a front runner than a follower. Its inevitable a shift in power is in process its more a question of when. It could be the Jaguars or the Texans. By the Texans conservative nature they will stick to the 5 year game plan, by year 4 however the Texans will be a solid playoff team, possibly already with some experience, but for now I'm sticking with 8-8.

The Jaguars will jump to the front based upon their Superstar Byran Leftwich given solid offensive weapons plus experience, a solid run defense and with the Superbowl @ Jacksonville added resolve, I fully expect however the Texans to split the Jag's unlike the Titans who will be swept.

Manning's deal will destroy the Colts, eventually wearing them down while beginning the season hot, as injury and discord become rampant they will be easy marks for both the Jags and Texans by season end.

Titans will be competitive much like the Texans where last year but always on the short end of the scoreboard. With much improved pass rushing amonst the division (especially the Texans) how can McNair possibly avoid injury and stay healthy all season. Last draft they already began the rebuilding process, despite excellent coaching you can't fool mother nature.

1) Colts: no brainer 11-5
2) Texans : will shock the NFL 10-6
3) Jags: Great draft 9-7
4) Titans: Going down hill 7-9

Tough one to call...

Colts 10-6....get beat down towards the end of season, make it to playoffs and die early

Titans, Texans, Jags...all around 7 to 10 wins.

I figure the Colts and the Titans will club each other to death trying to get to the top of the heap, which may very well let us or the Jags step in during the latter part of the season and take the top spot.

I think the Colts are favorites to win the division. I also think they should be considered for Super Bowl mention. They had a terrific season last year and Coach Dungy is outstanding.

The Titans maybe a slight drop off but I like the McNair factor. As long as he's in there they have a chance. You never write that guy off. And Coach Fisher is solid.

The Texans are a year off. Next year I think they are serious, solid contenders. Improved this year though but Carr will have to step it up some and they need to play a full 4 quarters every game. Coach Capers is outstanding.

No opinion on the Jags. I can't get a read on that team although I like Del Rio.

And my guess at the end of the year is another SB win for the Pats.

That is sad why you dont have the texans #1 they have the best defense in the AfC South with a offensive Jaugernaught in the makin look tennesee lost the d line they will get run over!!!! The colts lost all of theyre stating corners adn the jags they are the wild card in this they have some raw talent but here is my board

Texans 10-6
Colts 9-7
Jags 7-9
Titans 5-11

Colts - 11-5 Could make it as far as a rematch with the Pats, which they will promptly lose again. Next year, they start to decline slightly.

Titans - 10-6 and a wildcard birth IF Mcnair is 100% healthy. If he loses significant time, this could go down as far as 7-9. They will take another step back next year imo.

Jags - 8-8 Up and coming team. Just need some more experience for Leftwich and I'm not sold on their corners. They will compete hard, but this is one tough division. Could suprise and finish ahead of the Titans.

Texans - 7-9 They are one year away from a playoff berth. This year they make some major strides, and are more competitve on both sides of the ball, and less "disguising" by the coaches will need to take place. They will be able to stand toe to toe with most teams talent wise, but cannot afford many injuries. Lack of depth and inexperience will keep the record from being higher. Don't forget, they were 31st on both offense and defense. It takes longer than one offseason to correct those numbers. Next year, I see 9 or 10 wins.

Porky, I normally enjoy your posts very much, but picking the Texans last in our division is blasphemous isn't it? TOO much sane thought went into your response on this one. Gotta let a little homer mojo in, this is the afc south:

Colts 11-5, Texans 9-7, Jags 8-8, T!ts 7-9

Lol. Okay, you're right. Here is my homer look at the AFC South:

Texans 23-0 - That includes 4 wins in the pre-season, and 3 wins in the post season culminating in a 400-2 victory over who? Who cares that's who! We beat the Titans by a combined 10,345 points. Da texans!!!

Dolts - 2-14 - They beat the Titans twice

Jags - 2-14 - Ditto to the above

Flaming Meatballs - 0-16. They lose all their games by at least 300 points, and Bud Adams gets so mad his toupee actually leaves it's owners head via steam in the 4th qtr of our game.

Colts 11-5 Dungy continues to add his kind of players on defense. I wonder if E. James can return to his pre-injury greatness. If he cannot, they will need a new star HB soon.

Titans 9-7/10-6 They plugged some holes with young guys. Will it be enough to return to the playoffs?

Jaguars 8-8 They still need a pass-rush and CB help. Del Rio has them going in the right direction.

Texans 7-9/8-8 They take another step. They will probably continue to "give away" 2-3 wins this season. If they can turn around their 4th quarter play, they may sneak into the playoffs.

is no slouch behind E. James. As much as I hate the Colts, gotta admit they are the best team in our division. And with Dungy working on their D they are only going to get better. :(

I will have to say that the Colts are the top of the heap for the AFC South at the moment. I honestly wonder how long it will take the Manning Salary Cap noose to start cutting the oxygen off though. No matter what kind of coach Tony D is he is going to have a tough time pretty soon when they can't afford to pay any of the folks around Peyton to catch, run, or block.

I wonder what Edgerrin and Harrison's contracts look like and when they are up? That will be pretty telling in the money picture. When you unbalance the cap by spending that high of a percentage on one side of the ball it is going to catch up pretty quick. I don't think it's out of line to say that a lack of defense was the big factor in the colts not going to the big show. I know that many folks think Manning is a choker in the big games, but if their D could have stepped up it may very well have been Colts-Panthers.
