You can’t get players to tank. I don’t think you can get a coach to tank. But a front office can trade away the best players, not replace them, and leave the team unable to compete.

That’s what’s happening in Jacksonville.
The way I see it as well. I don't want players or coaches that will accept tanking. The FO, though, can easily make decisions to prepare for the future rather than the now.

It's just not in my DNA to lose at anything on purpose. Losing is for losers and sets a bad culture. That said if you dont have a franchise QB then tanking when there's a generational QB talent is warranted.

I'm just saying, even if you tank you're not guaranteed the 1st overall pick.

Now, if you're well stocked with draft picks like Miami was, I could see it

Are you saying we’re tanking for Miami? :stirpot:

Maybe OB forgot he traded the first round pick.
I wouldnt be surprised if he did forget.

He will rember at the last minute, trade away 2022,23 and 24 for a late first round after firing Kelly and he is named Co Owner of the Texans franchise.

Its ALMOST funny at this point.

With how backwards the Texans are in rewarding incompetence it makes me want to turn in my resume and spend the work day sleeping at my work station so I can be named employee of tge month and get 10 raises before the end of October

Technically yes. I think very highly unlikely as a 4th place team having a better record than all 3 2nd place teams would be really hard to do, but in a technical sense, yes it’s possible.

After watching this team chug along in disarray last night , I'm sticking to my previous prediction that they finish 3rd in the division behind Tennessee and Indianapolis.

Tennessee 11-5
Indy 10-6
Houston 5-11
Jax 1-15 with that one win against the Texans..

We're not playing the Chiefs on the road every week, true. But, there are issues that can be exploited by many teams. Mainly, blocking and tackling. Ya know, the foundation of the game.
And QB play.

DC's have figured out DW4's game and he hasn't been able to adjust.

5 bad games in a row last yr and 1 to start this season. Next week we can add to this list. The Texans org was flat out stupid to give him 160 mil and that will translate into 4 more yrs of what we saw at the end of last yr.

But hey when you value marketing over substance this is what you get and make no mistake the Texans will be getting what they deserve.

OK

Not the last 6 games and counting.
So..... you are ready to crucify Watson for "6 games in a row" for the inability to change, but regularly defend OB after 6 seasons (more but Im giving him a grace period to match numbers here)?

I dont believe that Watson can walk on water either..... does he need to grow? Absolutely.... however I dont think ANYONE is capable of growth under the thumb of OB and the weight of his chin.

I'm on record for cleaning house BOB/DW4/The waterboy after 51-7.

So how many NFL QB's has OB had to prove his point? How many NFL HC's has Watson had to prove his point?

But you still regularly defended OB putting it all on RS.

But are throwing Watson under tge bus after 6 games in a row.

My point remains valid even if your stance has changed from defense of OB to wanting him gone.

You offer one the grace of seasons to prove themselves a failure... while declaring the whole time the other is a failure with not even half the time frame to prove themself.

I get you dont like the guy (dont think he is the answer for our QB woes), but just like EVERY problem isnt OBs fault, not everything is Watsons either.

IF Rick Smith was such a problem for OB to contend with, why is it not conceivable that OB is just as much a hinderence to Watson?

The Colts-Jaguars game has been good.
Gardner Minshew had a good day. 3 TDs 0 ints. Not a lot of yards, but... wish my QB threw 3 TDs & 0 ints this week. But he didn't.

Not saying I want Gardner Minshew.

But so far the Colts & Jaguars looked like better teams than we did Thursday. I know, I know. They didn't have to deal with COVID-19 & Hurricanes & wildfires like we did.

Jay Gruden might be a average to below average HC, but he is a good OC.

Thinking about this...Are 3 of the 4 teams in the AFC South running the WCO?

No NFL's talent worthy QBs until DW4.

And

1
OB has selected all but 2 (Osweiler & Watson) of his QB's. Watson has been stuck with a HC who really didn't want him initially but has come to appreciate him b/c he has saved his job each season since his arrival. OB should've been out after the 4-12 season but he leaned on Watson's success to save his job.....if it was ever in question. Who the hail else was he going to lean on as a bright spot?

Fitz and Hoyer were placeholders. RS didn't want to draft a QB so they had to make do with what was out there.

Reading these threads reminds me why i check out on this board for the 1st 2-3 days after a loss; Houston sports radio I basically have to just not listen at all. Nothing can be garnered from having played 1 game against the best team in the league on a night when they're emotions are running sky high from having dropped their championship banner.......&

you're on a short week.....
with no preseason.....
breaking in new weapons on offense.....
& running a new defensive scheme.

Jags for some reason always beat the Colts early...not really concerned with them.
The Colts, Rivers will take them out of more than a few games this year;
Titans, remains to be seen how they'll look...Believe they're already down 2 starters for Monday & i believe teams will start keying on Henry, we'll see how he responds.

I agree with that. However, there weren't many surprises this week. Good teams looked good. Bad teams looked bad.

We got schooled by the SB champs. Next week we'll get schooled by the team Tennessee eliminated from the playoffs.

The question is, will we learn anything.
The Texans under BoB with DW4 have ALWAYS learned, but chemistry, timing......all that stuff takes time to develop.

Fans around here are funny though. They’re willing to give other teams leeway when it comes to all that when they’re expecting them to be good. Example, THe Bucs. Everyone expected that they’d come out putting up 50 ppg with TB12 AND Gronk and all of those other weapons. Most of the fans here along with the ESPN talking heads automatically annointed them as SB Faves. Well today, Bucs lose in week 1 with a forgettable offensive showing...TB12 and all those guys come out looking rather average, then it’s “oh they just need time to get their timing down, bunch a new pieces, chemistry doesn’t happen overnight, they’ll get it together!”

When it comes to the Texans for fans around here tho? that same leeway isn’t afforded our guys even though they’re working through some of those same challenges trying to work in new weapons with Johnson, Cooks and Cobb and a new playcaller. Some here expected them to have everything down right out of the gate and to be humming like they’re in midseason form already. Anything short of that is “inexcusable!”

Y’all gotta make up y’all’s mind. It either matters or it doesn’t.

That's generous.

TB is installing a new QB. We're installing a RB.

You've got Fuller, Fells, Akins, & Duke from last year. & your "new play caller" was promoted from within.

Let's not forget, we'll never have as much time to prepare for another game this season as we had to prepare for this one. & even though the score was 20-31, it was over by halftime.

Our team was grossly out matched.

That's not to say we won't get better, or the season is over. I know we have some who have said as much.

All I'm saying is I expected a better team to show up, a team that could compete with the Chiefs. I was wrong.

We were 7 point dogs. That's where my expectations should have been.

1st, a new RB and 2 new WR’s. Yes the playcaller was here last year, So was our newly minted DC....but neither were in the roles they’re in now. Contrast that with the Chiefs who have EVERYBODY back that they had last year in their same roles .......plus a new little toy....A year better in the system to boot. No orientation period needed.

& I think we all expected a LITTLe bit better....probably would’ve gotten it too & looked better.........if we weren’t playing who we were...WHEN we were.

my point is, there probably wasn’t a tougher opponent we could’ve played on Thursday than the Chiefs and anyone that they would’ve played on THAT day, they would’ve destroyed.

Ugh ... Minshew against the Colts today 19/20 173yards , 3TD's and a perfect 151.7 QBR.
I don't really understand the lack of hype for Minshew. He was great as a rookie in a real bad situation as a late round pick. The thing that impressed me the most, was how cool he was under pressure and with the game on the line - and he didn't do many mistakes. He may very well end up as the best QB of that class. I think the hype around him at the start of his career and around his look "hurt" his hype level once he cooled of a bit. Still, if I was a Jags fan, I would be hyped to have him.

He doesn't have the prototypical size , was a little slow .... not really a big arm. Most had him pegged as an end of the roster guy at best coming out of the draft hence the 6th round pick.

You are right , he's cool .... and that may be his biggest asset. You can't teach that.
He's also well prepared and leaves it all on the field.

I don't know that I'd be content with him at QB for a contender .... but he's entertaining as hell for a rebuilding team.
Maybe I'm wrong .... and he leads them on a deep playoff run but if that's the case , that doesn't bode well for the Texans. They may finish last in this division if Minshew plays anywhere close to what he did Sunday throughout the season as I had them behind both Tennessee and Indy.

He doesn't have prototypical size - but he is big enough. He is a little slow, but he is athletic enough, he doesn't have a real big arm, but it is strong enough. I know it doesn't look great, if a QB doesn't excel in any of the physical requirements - but in the end his IQ, eyes and heart are what really counts. Plenty of teams have won with a game manager, that was good enough - he is more than a game manager, because he can actually win games and lead a team. I don't know if he can keep it up, but so far I would say he has shown more than a lot of other QBs that are often mentioned ahead of him.

I am still not "scared" of the Jags - after they traded away half their valueable players, I don't think the team can do real damage. Indy was also not playing well yesterday. But with their draft ammunition and Minshew in play, they could be a threat in the future - than again, thats what we have been saying for what feels like a decade...

True enough & I’m taking all that into account. We scored 7 through 3 qtrs. The game was over after the Chiefs drive to open the 2nd half.

The Cardinals beat the 49ers.

I’m not saying we should have won. But it should have been more competitive when the game was in contention. 31 unanswered points.

Sorry, that’s just ridiculous.

We were only down 10 at the half dude. Everyone’s got their panties in a wad about what the offense is doing/not doing and yet hardly anybody is focusing on the defense...who through 3 games against KC over the last 2 years has given up over 100 pts at a clip somewhere around 40 per.

If you’ve learned nothing from the Rockets over the last several years......from the Texans in 2017 & 2018 when we lost against the Pats, Seattle and Philly after putting up 30+ In each of those games............

It doesn’t matter how many damn points you score, if u can’t get key stops when you need to & you’re not competing with anyone, much less beating them if you can’t do that at a halfway decent clip.

And the KEY differences between Arizona winning their game against the 49ers and us losing to KC (outside of the obvious Mahomes/Garropolo thingy) is Arizona got defensive stops when they needed to..matter fact, their game was sealed with a defensive stop. Does anyone have any confidence that if our defense was in that same situation against KC that they would come thru?

Didn’t think so.

When I say 31-0 that includes the defensive problems. But... we've acknowledged the defensive issues all summer. Major problems. No way we can be successful if the offense can't apply pressure with the score.
