AFC South Standings!

Week 5
Bears(1-3) @ Colts(1-3)
Titans(1-3) @ Dolphins(1-3)
Jags(1-3) @ Bye
Texans(3-1) @ Vikes(3-1 or 4-0)
So if the Texans make the playoffs this year, who's to say they'll be eliminated early? There's no way to know that. Let's see how our Texans fair against the Vikings in their first REAL test this year.
What will you be saying about the Texans chances of a Super Bowl if they win this week against the Vikings in their house?

Wait... so you don't consider the Chiefs that beat us 30-0 last year or the Pats that have won more than anybody in their house a REAL test?

wow

I don't. I don't even think the Vikings will be a real test. Measuring stick... sure. but not a test. More like a quiz.

Anyone thinking the Texans are going to Minnesota to dominate will be sorely disappointed. We're still learning how to play. Both sides of the ball.

This part of the season is still about getting better. Wins are nice, getting a lead on our division opponents is nice.

But it's obvious the offense is still working thongs out. No Jj Watt the rest of the year, the defense is going to be working things out for a few weeks as well.

After the bye week we'll see what kind of team O'b has built. Then we'll see what kind of tests there will be. Cincinnati, Packers... to a lesser extent Raiders, Titans, Colts... finishing what they started.

That will be the test.

I'll say the Vikings must not be as good as we thought.

I understand your point, but I consider the Chiefs and the Pats to be large tests of where we were at the time. Each game is going to be a challenge, and yeah the Vikings to be a test also. Not the biggest but yeah a test, challenge, quiz whatever you want to call it

The Texans won against the Chiefs and got destroyed by the Pats. Both are a test. Every game is a test. The Test that I'm referring to is, after being strummed on by the Pats, a win on the road against an NFC power house team. Even without Teddy and Adrian, the Vikings are winning big. This will be a game that either shows the Texans truly don't have it yet, or it will give us all faith in this team again. This is the test I'm referring to.

getting to the bye week with at least four wins should be enough. we've got three after four games.

Vikings, Colts, Broncos, Lions... Bye week.

doesn't matter which one(s) we win. They all count the same. Well, Colts & Broncos actually count more, but for us, right now... really don't matter.

I think we can beat the Colts and Lions. The games I can see us losing are against the Vikings, Broncos and Packers. The Packers are after the Bye of course. These games will be real tests of this teams intestinal fortitude. How many of those 3 games can the Texans win? We shall see.

My prediction is 4-4 at the bye, the only win being the Dolts. We're just not that good because of injuries, severe depletion of talent on the O-line, and Golden Boy QB still learning. Personally, I think the Texans will pick it up after the bye just when everyone is down on them. It's what they do. Then they'll lose the wild card game at home again and everyone's head will explode. Again.

Hey, that's a good nickname for the Texans: Exploding Heads

this might be another 8-8 or 9-7 wins the division again this year

I think the NFC north and AFC north and east will beat all 4 teams this year

Well, we already beat the Bears. The Lions don't look like a real NFL team & the Packers and Vikings look as vulnerable as we do right now.

That's pretty much the outlook I had.
Texans will likely find a way to blow 1 home game, and find a way to win 1 road game.
Still, 9-7 basically cements the AFC south this year.
And then we play a real opponent in the 1st round and get destroyed.

I know the Titans are the Titans, but they've got a very favorable stretch coming up. Miami, Cleveland, Indy, Jacksonville, & San Diego. I don't expect them to go on a five game win streak, but they could easily be 4-5, maybe 5-4 by week nine.

We've got Vikings, Colts, Broncos, Lions, bye... We could easily be 4-4 by week nine.

4-4 on the back end is going to be rough for both teams (we're on the road for all but three games) & we play @ the Titans week 17.

You know what man. I'll just let people say what they are going to say about our chances in the playoffs if we get there. A lot of guys may be right, and from the looks of it we don't look anywhere near as good as NE, Pitt, or Denver. However, right now I think we could compete with the Ravens possibly. The playoffs come at one point in time at the end of the season, and it doesn't matter who you were in week 3, 4 or, 5, or even week 10. It all matters what your team has become once the playoffs start. Who is healthy, and what team is playing with a strong rhythm once the one game elimination starts. Upsets seem to happen almost every year in the playoffs, and we've seen a lot of teams make it to the big game that just needed seem like they belonged there or that were written off before the playoffs. Right now, I just can't see us becoming that type of team but anything can happen. The playoffs are always fun and exciting and if your team is fortunate enough to make it there, then all you can do is see what happens at that point. All bets are off. It comes down to who is better that day with the roster you have.

Exactly right... no one considered the Giants a serious threat when they won the SB... and you can't win one if you don't get in

Unfortunately I think our chances of being that wild and crazy team that gets great before the playoffs where they can make some upsets in games ended when Watt went down. Watt is that exact type of guy you need to have enough of those plays in big games like that. Watt will always perform. You still never know, but he is the exact type of guy you need to make a run like that. No one believed in the Packers when they went either, but Mathews made some major plays over and over in that run as well.

Win the crappy division, make it to the tournament and hope to get hot.

Injuries, bounces of the ball, karma go your way, next thing championship

This defense could gel and really be clicking by December. They've got a solid secondary. Bouye was straight up ballin' yesterday. And with Merciless, Clowney, Simon, and McKinney, any one of these guys is capable and has the potential to have big games.

One aspect of J.J. being gone is that the defense can now gel according to RAC's scheme. We all love J.J., but let's be honest. He often fails his assignment, but makes up for it with sheer talent. However, this can often leave our defense vulnerable when he's supposed to hit a gap, but instead goes to the outside. Now, though, RAC has a roster full of talent that he can fully utilize if they do what he says and like Belichick says, do their jobs.

The offense is what is really needing to settle down by the playoffs. They've got to be able to sustain some long drives in order to keep the defense off the field and be rested for the forth quarter. And obviously, they need to score some points, mainly getting TDs instead of settling for FGs.

Don't forget Vince. Looks like he wants another ring. He's playing much stronger, quicker, & with a better motor than he did last year.

Thorn's post about being 4-4 at the bye week and losing the wildcard game at home.

While certainly possible I don't see us going 1-3 over the next 4. Before the season, the concensus was if we started at 2-2, we'd be happy and in good shape. We're better than we feared they would be and I expect us to get only better on both sides of the ball, barring further injury

I agree. I know the Vikings are hot right now, but they are not going undefeated. The Texans will probably be underdogs, but I do not think it is impossible for them to win the game.

The only game before the bye that I just "know" will be a loss is Denver. They are the best team in football right now. And on MNF with Brock going back to Denver, I just do't have a warm fuzzy feeling about that game.

But, the Lions and Colts certainly don't scare me.

So if the Texans can manage a minimum of 2-2 over the next four games before the buy, they'll be in good shape.

The only chance against Denver is to match their defense and win on special teams. If our defense can match theirs (may be near impossible without Watt) then we can win that game. Kubiak's offense is stoppable. That part doesn't scare me

Good points. I could see a low scoring affair and the winner is the team with the least amount of mistakes, both with regards to turnovers and penalties.

Yeah, it's not like either is going to step on the other's throat and go for the jugular. It'll definitely be a close to the vest, field position, rely on the defense type game.

Then again, it is a national TV road game for the Texans. :smiliepalm:

The problem is that I easily see us going 2-2, which means we're one pick, or one bad bounce from 1-3.

Or one pick or one good bounce from 3-1
True, but with the way we let a lesser team come back so easily from 14-down and had their highest point output thus far this season doesn't make me lean positive.

The Vikes are no slouch and after letting the Titans score 16 in the opener, haven't allowed more than 10 their last two.

Hey, I'd love to be surprised...

The least amount of points Tennessee has scored this season has been 16. To say giving up 20 to them is factually correct in being the most, but contextually indifferent. They scored 3 more points than their average. The Texans defense was giving up 18 points per game going into this one.

It's kind of a non-point, because the Vikings have not played a Top 10 defense yet but still have a suspect running game and Sam Bradford waiting to either implode or get hurt. They are 31st in total offense and only scoring 22 a game because of their defense had an amazing +10 turnover differential in just 4 games, setting up a lot of short fields.

This game is going to be about if the Houston offense can score against this very good Viking defense. Heck, it's really about if they can hold onto the ball. Right now, with Os still throwing where Nuk was a step before and a shaky O-line and Griffin being the only healthy TE, it is definitely in favor of the Vikes defense.

I'm not too worried about it. This part of the season, it's about the in game adjustments. I know they look like the same old Titans, but that was pretty much a new team we faced on Sunday, both sides of the ball.

There was only three games worth of film on them.. the first half was about as honest as it was going to get. Then we made our adjustments & shut them down in the second half. They made their adjustments & shut us down in the second half.

That tells me defensively, these coaches (ours & theirs) have their stuff together. The further we get into the season, the better we'll be at identifying tendencies & starting with a great game plan... yeah, watch out for the Titans week 17.

Osweiler also looked very comfortable in the first half, most likely due to familiarity with the offensive gameplan. We probably scripted a dozen plays or so. Hopefully he's getting more & more comfortable with the offense & we'll start to see complete halfs from him in the next few weeks, complete games by December.

OK you've restored my optimism, going 2-2 in the next 4 is very realistic.

It would be factually inaccurate, as they only scored 10 against the Raiders.

I really, really want to beat the Broncos.

I can't stand how their QB situation is looking to have worked out for them.

It makes you realize that coaching was probably not the primary problem when Kubiak and Wade were here. They seem to be doing great with a front office that knows how to consistently evaluate talent and build a roster. Maybe that was too much responsibility for them when they were in Houston. Now they just have to concern themselves with coaching.

No doubt.

I love how everyone conveniently "forgets" the Broncos offered Brock $16 million a year to start there.

Not to mention that the Broncos tried desperately to match the Texans offer but Brock's agent was no longer taking their calls.

ILB Sio Moore was just released by the Colts, which was a terrible move. If anything he's good depth, and now they have no better talent to replace him. The Colts are now desperate at that position.

The Texans needs to work out Moore immediately. He needs to be coached up, but he's very athletic.

Always injured and in various types of troubles.
Doubtful he'll ever played in the NFL again.

The Colts' defense isn't a world-beater by any means. they're near last in pts allowed and near the bottom in most other catagories. If this dude is healthy there must be something else wrong here.
Acquired in a September 2015 trade with the Oakland Raiders, Moore was part of an inside-linebacker rotation with Josh McNary and rookie Antonio Morrison opposite veteran D'Qwell Jackson. He was a liability in coverage, too often leaving the middle of the field open for big plays.

Edit:
I wonder if they even gave the dude a ticket back from London.
LoL
