Adrian Peterson has been indicted

Adrian Peterson Suspended Without Pay For At Least the Remainder of 2014 Season
...
“Third, you have shown no meaningful remorse for your conduct. When indicted, you acknowledged what you did but said that you would not ‘eliminate whooping my kids’ and defended your conduct in numerous published text messages to the child’s mother. You also said that you felt ‘very confident with my actions because I know my intent.’ These comments raise the serious concern that you do not fully appreciate the seriousness of your conduct, or even worse, that you may feel free to engage in similar conduct in the future.”

NFLPA Statement on Adrian Peterson Suspension
The decision by the NFL to suspend Adrian Peterson is another example of the credibility gap that exists between the agreements they make and the actions they take. Since Adrian’s legal matter was adjudicated, the NFL has ignored their obligations and attempted to impose a new and arbitrary disciplinary proceeding.
...
The NFLPA will appeal this suspension and will demand that a neutral arbitrator oversee the appeal...

Depending on Shayem Dasz ruling source says it is "very possible" Adrian Peterson returns to field this weekend while appealing suspension

I know the extent of his "disciplining" was a bit over the top. The thing that has irked me as much since this crap began was the amount of kids with different mothers he has. It's ridiculous! You think he's going to act as the father to all of them? Doubtful. Kids growing up without fathers because the father's an asshat pisses me off.

Sorry for the rant. Wear a friggin helmet or quit dickin every chick you see

yeah, it is low character stuff, man. I guess he thinks throwing money at them and then beating them on the occasional visit makes him a father. He might be biological in that term, but he is certainly not a dad.

Hopefully those kid grow up with real men in their lives that know how to be respectable grown men and solid role models instead of irresponsible, petulant sperm donors.

Without any approval for AP as a father of way too many kids, I don't like the NFL suspending him further. This is all getting so arbitrary. Didn't have a policy for Ray Rice, then put one in, then don't follow it and now he may get out and be eligible to play before AP on what at the end of the day was a misdemeanor according to the folks' whose job it is to judge.

Shayam Das rules in favor of the NFL. Adrian Peterson stays on exempt list.

That decision means commissioner Roger Goodell remains the decision maker on when Adrian Peterson comes off the list. Appeal is separate.

wasn't Henderson an NFL exec at one time?
do you really think he'll be unbiased?

You got that right...

From PFT:
The NFL Players Association does not believe that the action satisfies its request for a neutral third-party arbitrator.

“A long-time NFL Executive and current legal consultant cannot, by definition, be a neutral arbitrator,” the union said in a statement released to PFT.

The NFL appointed Henderson without addressing the union’s request for a neutral third-party arbitrator. The league previously appointed former U.S. Judge Barbara Jones to handle the appeal of Ray Rice’s indefinite suspension.

Judge Jones ultimately required Goodell to testify at the Rice appeal hearing, over the strenuous objection of the NFL. That ruling may or may not have influenced the NFL’s willingness to appoint a true outsider to handle Peterson’s case.

Yes, regularly hears appeals.

I'm not of the mind that Peterson is the victim of bias.

Seems to me AP has "served his time" by not being allowed to play all year.

IMO, the question seems to be is the NFL changing the "sentence" after the ruling was already handed down and part of the "sentence" has been served?

Seems to me AP has "served his time" by not being allowed to play all year.

He was on a paid leave up to this point. How much punishment is that? Get paid, don't have to work. Now that he's admitted guilt, punishment was handed down. Had he been acquitted, he'd be back.

I question whether the Vikings really wanted him back playing as soon as possible. They haven't appeared on the forefront of any of this that I've seen. You could argue they have been harmed more than AP.

Regardless, I expect to see him shaking hands with Jerruh in the coming months.

Regardless, I expect to see him shaking hands with Jerruh in the coming months.

I'm still scratching my head on that one. Dez, Murray, McClain for starters all need to be paid. I question if there will be enough cash in the cap to bring AD aboard especially already having one of the best RBs in the league.

So levy a fine on him equal to all those game checks. How hard is that?

And what harm has happened to the Vikings. You might have more info than myself but I haven't heard of any tales of season ticket holders canceling their tickets.

They've lost games played by one of the best in the league... how much is a "W" worth? When JJ was DPOY, AD was MVP.

Adrian Peterson's appeal denied
All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson's appeal of a league suspension for a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy has been denied, the league announced Friday.

Peterson's appeal was heard by former NFL executive Harold Henderson last week in Washington, D.C. Henderson was appointed by commissioner Roger Goodell as arbitrator to hear the sides' cases and issue a ruling.

In upholding the NFL's initial ruling, Henderson concluded that Peterson "has not demonstrated that the process and procedures surrounding his discipline were not fair and consistent."

Wrote Henderson: "He was afforded all the protections and rights to which he is entitled, and I find no basis to vacate or reduce the discipline."

Peterson is now expected to appeal the decision in federal court.

Adrian Peterson: 'I've considered retiring from the NFL'
"I've considered retiring from the NFL," Peterson said. "I still made $8 million dollars this year. I've thought about getting back into the real estate (business in Texas) I'm already in. That's something I've been interested in, something I'm involved in. I've thought about getting back into that. I've thought about going after the Olympics -- you only live once. It might be time for me to pursue that, as well. I love playing football, don't get me wrong, but this situation is deeper than that."

The 29-year-old, who is interested in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, says he plans to file a lawsuit against the NFL...

A secret phone recording released on Monday shows an NFL exec promising Adrian Peterson he would be suspended for just two games, rather than indefinitely, the player's lawyers claim.

The audio, obtained by ABC News, apparently backs up the Minnesota Vikings star's claims that the league promised he would return to the field shortly after pleading no contest to assaulting his four-year-old son. Instead, six days later, he was suspended without pay until at least April 15, 2015.

The audio emerged on Monday as the NFL Players Association filed a federal lawsuit in Minnesota on behalf of Peterson, asking the court to dismiss the decision to uphold his punishment.

In the conversation, which was recorded on November 12, he is speaking on the phone with Troy Vincent, the NFL executive vice president of football operations.

Good for Peterson, I hope he wins and God'ell ends up with more egg on his face. Peterson probably wont win this case.

You do realize that this is bigger than Goodell, yeah?

The league itself needs to figure out its personal conduct policy, not just the commish. The growing power of social media completely took the league unaware, and they simply were not prepared to deal with a modern situation that they apparently did not see coming on the horizon. I'd bet that the owners figure this stuff out pretty quickly in the off-season. Anything that "tarnishes the shield" tends to get high priority at meetings and resolved immediately.

This is exactly what happened IMO - they got caught with a boardroom mentality in a social media age.

Peterson now ineligible for reinstatement until 4/15, 35 days past start of FA/trading period. If not a Viking, severely limits options.

Peterson will argue bias of arbitrator Harold Henderson, but faces uphill battle: courts are very deferential to arbitration process.

Courtroom Football today in Minnesota: Adrian Peterson/NFLPA hearing v. NFL re biased punishment/arbitration, seeking reinstatement.

Adrian Peterson Undecided, Uneasy About His Future in Minnesota
Peterson told ESPN on Thursday night he is "still uneasy" about the prospect of returning to the Vikings in 2015, saying the organization working with the NFL to put him on the commissioner's exempt list last September made him question how much support he had from the team for whom he has played his entire career. The 2012 NFL MVP called that decision an "ambush," adding, "There were people (in the organization) that I trusted, who knew exactly what was said, that weren't heard from" in the decision-making process...

Here, let me get that mirror for you Mr. Peterson.

The decaying relationship between Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson and the organization took a dramatic turn during the combine last week in downtown Indianapolis: Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, had to be separated from a member of Minnesota's front office during a heated verbal altercation about the former Pro Bowler, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the situation.

According to the sources, Dogra engaged in a heated exchange with Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski during which the agent made it clear that Peterson would never play there again. The incident took place during a time when outside parties were in the vicinity. Finally, former Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik intervened, separating the men and diffusing the escalating tension, sources said.

Jayson Braddock reported long ago that AD told him he wanted out of Minnesota and wanted to play in Texas.

Adrian Peterson status with Vikings seemingly now has a more urgency, although he remains under contract with team.

Judge David Doty has ruled in favor of Adrian Peterson, granting NFLPA motion to vacate ruling by Harold Henderson, per multiple sources.
Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
NFL does file appeal to 8th Circuit, and returns Peterson to Commissioner/Exempt list while new arbitration awaits. Courtroom football.

Interesting note: NFL told AP on 11/10 to come to 11/14 meeting. AP asked for different date, NFL didn't respond, suspended him on 11/18.

Translation: Doty says to go back and have NFL arbitrator -- probably not Henderson -- apply "old standard" (whatever that was).

Doty: "The case is remanded for such further proceedings consistent with this order as the CBA may permit." May mean another hearing.

To clear up confusion, Judge Doty cannot reinstate Adrian Peterson, only the NFL can do that. He can only vacate (overturn) ruling.

Peterson and Rice rulings should affect discipline for any player behavior before the new policy implemented.

And yes, ruling will help Greg Hardy. "Old standard" -- perhaps 2-game suspension as with original Rice ruling -- may be applied.

Can see NFL thinking: "Ok, we'll get these lingering cases out of the way and take our lumps, now we can impose new policy going forward."

And, even after these losses from Judge Jones and Judge Doty, the NFL still has its new Policy, imposed without Union involvement.

Although NFL got rebukes from arbitrators/judges on Rice, Peterson, they kept them off the field in 2014, which was major objective.

My thought on NFL appeal: they could, and 8th circuit could reverse, but as with Rice reversal, may be better to just accept it and move on.

This is NFL's problem: applied "old standard" to Rice initially, faced outrage. But can't apply "new standard" until new policy in place.

Judge Doty has been player-friendly judge, but standard was still high. NFL was susceptible in applying new standards to prior conduct.

Important point: courts are very hesitant to overrule arbitrations done in the CBA process; high standard, but happened here.

Just finding out about NFLPA/Peterson win in federal court v. NFL. My sense is argument about retroactively applying new policy worked.

Think Titans or Jags could make a run at him if they're allowed. Both need upgrades on line.

AD would surely help take pressure off those young QBs.

There are more and more situations where those with the power make up the rules 'expos factos' or after the fact. It is theoretically illegal for the government, a breech of contract for those operating under contract and unethical in general. But those with power never appreciate their limits and constantly expand their control by pushing the boundaries.

See Obamanation.

Adrian Peterson releases statement on ruling
"I was pleased to learn about Judge Doty's decision," Peterson wrote in a press release after Doty ruled in his favor, granting an NFL Players Association motion to vacate a previous ruling by arbitrator Harold Henderson.
...
Whether or not Peterson will remain with the Vikings upon his return is another topic. His father, Nelson, said Thursday that he's heard of three teams interested in making a play for the All-Pro runner.

"I've heard rumors, Arizona," Peterson's father said. "I've also heard the rumors of Indianapolis and the Colts, going there with a quarterback the caliber of (Andrew) Luck. I've also heard the Cowboys, coming back home with the Cowboys, behind that offensive line that they have."

After what he did to his kid, I don't want him in a Texans uniform.

He made a mistake. Not in administering discipline, but in using excessive force and switches. I can understand it somewhat since it was considered appropriate for those in East Texas for years. But discipline is something which takes a lot of time to do properly and it appears he was still a rookie at it.

I know it's not PC, but discipline is not the problem, it's the administration. And that's an art.

Sad isn't it?

Only if you ignore reality. They have $14.9 mil and the Texans have $11.3. They are about to franchise Bryant at in excess of $12.3 knocking them down to $2.6. Try again.

And how much if any is Peterson better than Murry at this point? Murry's last season was substantially better than AP's last.

Bottom line,

If Jerrah wants AD he will let Murray walk and find away to get a deal done and Dallas does have a better OL.

How much do you think re-signing Mallett/KJ is going to knock off of the Texans Cap?

Never disputed the OL. Bottom line is the Cowboys have less effective cap space than the Texans. And it's not an upgrade at this point.

There's no "sad" to it.

How much do you think re-signing Mallett/KJ is going to knock off of the Texans Cap?

DRC's 1st year cap hit last year on a 5 year $35 mil deal was $2.75 mil. Mallett is too variable on structure to make a prediction beyond somewhere between $2.5 and $7.

I hope that you don't actually think that is the case. AP has been NFL royalty for like 8 years now, and is fully healthy and fresh this year. He also stays healthy for the most part and handles the grind very well. Murry had a fantastic season, but he also did it behind an Oline that Joe Texan could have gotten 1,000 yards behind. The Cowboys Oline was awesome this year, and will be in the future. Peterson is bigger, stronger, and probably faster than Murry. A healthy and sturdy AP blasts through people on that Cowboys Oline.

Whatever. Hey next you can tell me how AJ is NFL royalty and how much that means to you.

AP's career is better than Murray's. There is no argument there. Neither is there that AP is 2 years older and that their last seasons Murray is the clear winner.

You probably think Emmitt was just a product of his OL too.

I kinda agree, closer to an even swap.

I think AP's value to Vikings and Teddy is much more significant. Like playoffs.

I'm very concerned AD ends up in Indy, a team which can not only pay him more than other competitors for his services like Dallas. And Indy is a better bet to get to the SB than Dallas. And Andrew Luck is made of kryptonite.
Oh yea, if AD is smart and wants a shot at a ring, he'll be Hoosier.

Whatever. Hey next you can tell me how AJ is NFL royalty and how much that means to you.

Stay on track of the discussion. Totally irrelevant.

AP didn't play so that is a silly thing to say. AP probably got a needed rest to his bones and his body after so many years of toting the ball. The Cowboys had an outstanding Oline. That isn't to discredit Murry, because he has been pretty good every time he has been healthy. It wasn't just this year any way. AP has been all worldly as an NFL back though. One of the best ever, and he could very likely have three good years left without any horrible injuries. It is more likely that he'll stay healthy than Murry.

You probably think Emmitt was just a product of his OL too.

Another irrelevant statement that didn't need to go into your post.

Agreed on pretty much all cylinders here. I hope that AD doesn't go there either, but it is likely one of the best situations that he could go to.

Nope, hypocrisy is relevant.

I guess you are reading impaired. Check the last seasons as in when they last played full seasons. DM wins stats and eyes.

Not irrelevant to the fish it was intended for.

And frankly anyone who doesn't grade Emmitt as one of the best RBs ever and tries to discount his success to the OL has an irreparable case of anal cranial insertion.

Maybe, but a valid point. Smith was a not ordinary but still a B- type back who got into the right place at the right time.

It was irrelevant because Cak threw Smith in there out of nowhere and implied some position for me that I have never stated on someone that doesn't even have anything to do with the thread.

Would have been easier to deny. Was or wasn't Smith, well two part and Murray, a product of their OL?

Go ahead...

Nope, hypocrisy is relevant.

Lets keep this discussion on the subject.

I guess you are reading impaired. Check the last seasons as in when they last played full seasons. DM wins stats and eyes.

You can cherry pick whatever you want, but it still stands that one guy has shown to be a consistent work horse, while the other guy has been injury prone for the majority of his career. Murry has had one monster year. AD has had multiple years like that, and an MVP award at the position while playing on a team that has had a poor passing game for most of the time he has been there. He is one of those backs that can take the licks.

And frankly anyone who doesn't grade Emmitt as one of the best RBs ever and tries to discount his success to the OL has an irreparable case of anal cranial insertion.

I haven't discussed a word about Emmit Smith so I have no idea why you keep trying to drag him into this and deflect away from Murry and AP.
