well the lufkin/tyler area has given up on the texans this year so i didnt get to watch the game.

i was just wondering how good babbin looked. i heard somewhere that this was his best game ever. that he was just playing in passing situations and he seemed a lot more aggresive and was able to get to the qb.

maybe he does have some pass rushing skills and he just gets bogged down when having to worry about the run. or maybe arizona just sucks!!!

He did look better and more aggressive but it was against the Cardinals horrible OLine, so that contributed some to his success too. I was encouraged by what I saw though.
 
I still say he was a workout warrior who isnt nearly as fast as his 4.68 or whatever BS time he ran when he was 20-30 pounds lighter.

He had a decent game against an average O-line. Bad shoulder, but the guy is just not athletic enough for the 3-4. May be better suited for a 4-3, only in a pass rushing role. Looks like he is always thinking too much, rather than playing natural!
 
Yes, the terrible Cards O-line that supports the best passing attack in the NFL (statistically). Ok, maybe thats pushing it, but we always seem to be serching for the negative on this board. We finally win a game and all we can say is that the Cardinals suck. We are 2-12 people, be happy for a week because we finnally won one!!!!!
 
It's a combination of things, not the least of which is the fact that he is a second-year player. He's still a young player, learning on a team of incompetents, being put in position by Fangio. I hope for more from him in the second half of the third year, under a different coaching staff.

Some players take a little longer to develop and a poor team around him, poor coaching staff, no complementary rusher, and a bum shoulder have all hampered his development anyway. Add to that the fact that he's played OLB for two years now and it's funny how much people get on this guy. I understand that Casserly gave up half our draft for the guy, but don't get on Babin for that; get on Casserly.
 
He looked faster and more active than he has in the past. He played with a bit more recklessness as I assume that it's tough to throw your body around with a bad shoulder. If this is what we will see from Babin next season then he will become a fan favorite. I was impressed with his rushing skills and his hustle.

He never ran at 210-220....he ran at about the weight he is now.
 
I have liked what I have seen as of late. Let the kid develop. As someone else said, hit Cass for giving up so much, but I have a felleing we willl be praising Babin next year and Cass down the road for this selection.

We gave a net of ONE first day draft pick and some second day picks. Babin also can't help that. He just went to the team that picked him.
 
Most moronic trade? Nah. But, I was skepitical then, and said the trade would likely define the Casserly regime. If he turned into a stud pass rusher, then all would be forgotten. If he was a flop, or even just average, it would be a huge nail in Casserly's coffin. Add that and the Pbuch trade together, and those two trades have set us back in a major way. Both trades were in hindsight terrible, and will be the biggest reason Cass is looking for a job in a couple of weeks.
 
The Cardinals ran 51 plays and only 13 were runs. With guys like Babin, in this defense, the less information you have to process, i.e., interpreting run or pass at the snap, the more effective you will be. The Cards were in pass looks nearly all day which made them one fairly one-dimensional and made the read assignments much easier for our front seven.

Regardless of how anyone wants to spin the Babin trade, this is how it all worked out in the end:

Texans Get
1st round, No. 27: Jason Babin, LB
6th round, No. 175: Jammal Lord, FS
7th round, No. 210: Raheem Orr, LB

Titans Get:
2nd round, No. 40: Ben Troupe, TE
3rd round, No. 71: Randy Starks, DT
4th round, No. 103: Bo Schobel, DE
5th round, No. 138 Jacob Bell, G

What's not obvious on this list is that the 5th rounder the Texans got in the swap of 5ths w/TN (#159) was later traded to Jax for #175 and #210 (Lord and Orr). So this was a two step deal and this is the end result after step 2.
 
I agree it was a terrible trade. My main point I was trying to convey, however, is that Babin can still be a very good NFL player. He's young, he's dealt with a significant injury this year, he's changed positions, and he's done all this under a coaching staff that has shown it doesn't put its players in the best position to succeed. Try to separate Babin the player from Babin the trade and you might be able to find a more objective view on the guy. It is not his fault all those picks were given up. All he can do is come in and try to learn the system and improve. This past game, as AJ said, he was probably able to pin his ears back and go after the QB a bit more - which is what he did in college, so he's more accustomed to those situations. His development as a LB will take some time. When young players switch positions, it doesn't happen overnight.

Thanks for the info, aj. :thumbup It's a little misleading when people keep saying we gave up two picks for Babin without qualifying the remark with further details.

I didn't realize we got Orr out of the deal, though. He looks like he could be a stud, and I've been impressed with him during his limited playing time.

And I still think Babin has great potential. Next year will be the year that we start seeing what he's all about, especially if we get a DC that plays a more aggressive style of defense.

He's listed at 6'2" 259 lbs. and he looks all of it, in person. One of the nice things about going to training camp practices is getting to see the players, in person, next to their peers - and later, up close and personal at the autograph table. I have a football that has several Texans autos on it, and Babin signed for me last year. He was a nice guy and definitely a big dude.
