abc and their intro

I agree. It was a pub stunt. Now get over it. When I watch the Houswives with my wife, do I get offended by the Victoria's Secret commercials? They are more provacative. Hell no. That's why I watch the freakin show. You know, I love this country, but this puritan (sex and innuendo is bad and not appropriate unless it's on cable at 3 am) attitude just goes so overboard sometimes.

I agree with what you are saying. I have no problem with the Housewives show being on TV, but I watch MNF with my young son, and I don't need him to see that, a little warning please. I'm trying to be a prude, because like you stated I enjoy a sexy or risque show but I know when they are on and my son is in bed or I watch in another room. Like Porky said in another earlier post, Football is a family sport (especially at this time of year, watching football and eating turkey are big time with my family) and they should take into consideration that young children might be watching.

what do you parents do during commercials on televised football games?

My wife says I'm a true male, because during commercials, I'm flipping thru the channels looking at other games, news, and stuff.

Commericals? What are commercials? I have a TIVO, so what I do is end up putting it on pause if I get a call, or if the wife asks me to do something, or I do instant replays, and slo-mo's of some plays, etc. So, I am always about 5-10 minutes behind real time. So, when I get to a commercial break, I just do triple fast forward, and the game is back on in about 10 seconds. TIVO is the best gadget I have ever bought. :jumpbanan

I bet the Europeans are laughing their arses off at this "controversy"
I guess i am out of touch... when I was a kid 8:00 P.M. I was in bed (through 6 grade) so as far as if I would have seen this.. no.. 9:00 i was in bed through junior high.. so as far as my maturity level went I wouldn't have seen the into before I had sex ed (which was 6th grade)..

I'm a uniter, not a divider. I envision a thousand points of light, which the armies of compassion will deliver to to all of those who paid taxes.

When my wife and I saw the intro, neither one of us were offended by it.

But both of us could see immediately how it would offend some people, especially people who have children. The execs at ABC HAD to have known it would be controversial. There is no way you can convince me they are that ignorant.

I don't know what night desperate housewives comes on, but I wonder if the ratings on the show went up after this.

It's normally on Sunday night at 8, but channel 13 is showing the Texans, so I think it is being delayed until around midnight. I have it on a season pass on my TIVO, so I hope it picks it up.

Just to add to what's already out there, Mr. Rooney from the Steelers had an op-ed piece in today's NY Times. Here is a story about that column (not the actual column)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney called a steamy segment for the intro to ``Monday Night Football'' ``disgraceful'' and criticized ABC for ``miserable'' judgment.

The longtime owner, writing in an op-ed piece in Friday's New York Times, is the latest to weigh in on the skit that aired before Monday night's Dallas-Philadelphia game.

``The opening was out of place and should not have been part of the broadcast,'' Rooney wrote in the article titled ``Out of Bounds.'' ``I thought it was disgraceful.''

ABC's intro showed actress Nicolette Sheridan of the hit show ``Desperate Housewives'' wearing only a towel and provocatively asking Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens to skip the game for her as the two stood alone in a locker room. She drops the towel and jumps into Owens' arms.

``Worst was that it used one of our players in uniform in the locker room -- who claimed that `the team's going to have to win without me.' That is not NFL football,'' said Rooney, whose family has owned the Steelers since 1933.

The segment generated complaints to ABC and the Federal Communications Commission, as well as to NFL teams.

``At the Steelers offices (and at those of most other NFL teams), we were flooded with phone calls and e-mail messages protesting the video's salacious content,'' Rooney wrote. ``Many of those fans said they were watching with their children and did not expect to see such material.

``The league headquarters acknowledged that the fans who contacted us were correct. ABC's judgment was miserable.''

ABC, the Eagles and Owens apologized this week, with the team saying it wished the segment hadn't aired. The NFL called the intro ``inappropriate and unsuitable for our `Monday Night Football' audience.''

``The Steelers, and the 31 other clubs that make up the league, are a team,'' Rooney said. ``We play as a team. This promotion simply did not belong in that context, and that's what sparked my reaction.''

I personally think the Coors Light commercials with the Twins is just as provocative as that skit. Personally I think if you can show those twins in a commercial during a noon game, then you can show this pub stunt during an 8pm CST game. The main question that needs to be asked is: Is MNF family entertainment or adult entertainment. If it is considered the former, then the stunt was inappropriate. If it is the latter, then the stunt is appropriate and parents need to use more discretion in letting their children watch it.

Look, I'm not offended by the MNF intro (as I've said before), but saying that cheerleaders = overt sexual inuendo is just goofy.
