Aaron Glenn

he had a pretty good year, and was a good mentor to Dunta Robinson, but the years are starting to gain on him, and i think you can see that in his play ! But he still has a few years left in him, and i hope he finishes his career here with us !

Maybe he'll make a good mentor for Antrel Rolle, too :heh:

Glenn's five picks would say that he is not past his prime, but age has a way of creeping up on people.(Jerry Rice)

I think it would be good to get Rolle but because of Glenn, I don't see us really going after Rolle or being a contender with other teams that really need a corner (Minnesota).

Samari Rolle or maybe even Andre Dyson would be a great help to our secondary. I think Aaron Glenn still has something left in the tank, but bringing in one of those guys and possibly shifting Glenn to a nickleback position would help us immensely. Not sure if we can afford either though, since we really need to spend some money on the O-line and D-line.

Serious case of the grass is always greener syndrome thinking Andre Dyson would move Glenn to nickleback. Now Samari Rolle would be a great pick-up.

Aaron has played some good ball this year and I'm hopeful he's still got a year
or two of prime time performances left in him. Thing is, like with a premier
WR, speed is really a necessity for a CB like Aaron. If you don't have it, they go after you like the wolves do the aging caribou in the herd. And when a player gets Aaron's age, the speed can begin to fade in a single offseason.

In no way did I mean that A. Dyson is a better CB than Glenn. Just saying with his youth, athleticism, and speed perhaps it would make sense to slide Glenn so the nickle. Even if they did, Dunta did a pretty decent job with the nickle so during nickle situations Glenn would probably be back on the outside again.

As far as Dyson is concerned, there are some things I dont really like about him. He isnt much of a tackler from what I've seen and doesnt seem to play hard every down. I think I read somewhere that he's very susceptible to double moves, not sure though.

Id MUCH rather pick up Samari, was just thinking we may have a better chance of landing the lesser of the two. Dyson should be cheaper, too.

Aaron Glenn is just fine at corner he is the least of our troubles. Our DB's are fine. Coach Capers did the right thing in picking up Dunta to play on the other side of Aaron. Both of them had a great season, 11 ints between the both of them. Champ Bailey only had 2 all season and he went to the pro bowl. In my opinion 1 of our major problems is straight up sacks and tackling. We are not getting to our opponents QB enough and Jamie Sharper needs a little more help in the tackling dept. I'm sorry but we only had 24 sacks all season in which our sack leader had 5.5 sacks the whole season. The Colts two defensive ends had 26.5 sacks just between the both of them (Freeney 16, Mathis 10.5). John Abraham had (9.5 sacks) and he only played in 12 games this season. You can't expect a corner to cover forever. I don't care if we had Ty Law, Champ Bailey, and Charles Woodson, if we aren't getting to the QB, we might as well not think about the playoffs let alone a Superbowl.
Tackling is another thing we seem to have a problem with. Granted Jamie Sharper led the team with over 100 tackles again, but our number two tackler on the team was Dunta with 85, almost 10 more than every other linebacker each. In my opinion that's somewhat of a problem. I feel that we need a little more depth at linebacker and D-line. In the offseason I would like to see us pickup Kendrell Bell from the Steelers, and in the draft I would like to see Derrick Johnson from Texas fall to us. That will give us all the depth we would need at linebacker which makes the 3-4. And maybe we could pick up some D-lineman to give Smith, Payne, and Walker a breather in some plays because if you look at most of our games our defense is on the field almost the whole game especially in the second half. If our offense isn't clicking early in the game by the fourth quarter our D-linemen and Backers are about dead. Maybe if we can keep fresh bodies out on the field and still attack the offense we can create better opportunities for our O. But that's just my opinion.

Pressure is the key Baby

Glenn is DONE!!!!! The other teams stopped throwing towards Faggins and Robinson because when they did they paid for it. Glenn was BURNED up and down the field all year and he made picks when the ball was thrown badly!! He never made a play this year that made any of us say"WOW"!!!

Robinson did that all year!!. I hope and pray we draft another corner and let Glenn mentor him but I believe Glenn is done!!!

On a personal note, Glenn HAS TO BE THE WORST FAN FRIENDLY TEXAN ON THE TEAM!!!! Yes I know he signs autographs at the Aaron Glenn show but go figure its his show and he HAS TO!!!! My 6 year old daughter LOVES the Texans. I have had my season tickets all three seasons and she as not missed a game with myself and my wife. My daughter has been given footballs and hats autographed personally from David Carr. She loves interaction with the players, so she has every players autograph either on a picture that I take or game used equipment that they give her. Everybody BUT AARON GLENN!! She likes to get the the game early and get autographs and stay late to get them. THE ONLY PLAYER THAT WILL NOT STOP FOR HER IS AARON!! Walks right by her like he could care less :bag: ! She knows who is now and when he walks by she won't even look at him, calling him Mr Meanie :hairpull: after he is gone!!

Sorry for my rant and thank you!! I hope we get that corner now while we have a year to groom him!!

Not too biased then in your opinion of Glenn on the field are you?

Glenn is just find, had a few picks this year and made some great plays for us. He will get burned, but so does Dunta.

Ginessey....Derrick Johnson would be a great pick up. Perhaps we would do another trade this year so that we had 2 picks in the first round. Maybe a CB (Rolle or Rogers for example) and Johnson. Or perhaps a NT like Spears.
People on here make a great point that it's about time we consider drafting another CB to place in the Nickel for a year until they're ready to start opposite Robinson. Faggins is okay...but just simply got burnt too many times this year. I'm imagining a schedule next year where we have to face gunslingers like Manning, Leftwich & Volek twice and thinking I'd feel a lot better with A. Rolle or Rogers paired with D-Rob and Glenn.

Any thoughts that Polk or Orr could become the other ILB to compliment Sharper?

Was an exact quote I made. My opinion has nothing with the way he treats his fans. He made picks on throws that anybody should have made picks on. He was BURNED up and down the field during the Browns game.

Trust me I have any up close view of the game to watch him get burned. Then I like to watch the game at home on tivo just to see how good or bad the Texans played. Glenn can be a nickel back but not an every down back!!!

Wow, talk about an off base rant on Glenn off the field. Yeah ole Meanie helping out A&M recruit players, donating money, etc. And I am sure his doing the Glenn show is in his Texans' contract otherwise he wouldn't do it--yeah right.

As for on the field last year, did you happen to notice that little Manning whining, new rule emphasis debacle this past year and the effect it had on CB's? EVERY CB in the league gets burned--check out Champ Bailey this year. How about Woodson in the game with the Texans getting beat by AJ, Gaffney & Armstrong--is he done too? Every CB in the league had to adapt to the new emphasis, and just like the change was intended it made all of them look less dominant.

he made picks when the ball was thrown badly!! He never made a play this year that made any of us say"WOW"!!!

Most of the picks in the league every year are QB mistakes--check out about 4 of Dunta's picks to see if the ball was well thrown. That is the way it goes and Glenn made a couple great breaks on well thrown balls for INT's--you evidently just don't want to remember them since that would be inconsistant with him being DONE.

Anyone who watched the games and has ever played corner knows that Glenn did not get "burned" alot this year. "Burned" is when you misread a route or a player runs right by you. There were alot of plays this year where Glenn was in position to make the plays and didn't. Whether that is a tell tale sign that he is aging I don't know. He still has above average coverage ability, closing speed, and is a very good tackler. Marcus Coleman continued to get burned alot this year and, to me, would be replaced before Glenn. Could be wrong but I feel that they are grooming Faggins to replace Glenn

There are a couple of games that come to mind that show Glenn still has some good years left in him. The game in Tennessee, the Green Bay game, both games against Jacksonville, the Chicago game. Did he get burned this year? Sure he did. There aren't many CBs that don't get burned. I am sure Glenn will tell you he has been burned many times before also. It is the nature of the position and like he says you have to have a short memory playing that position. We could always use another CB but I don't think Glenn is done.

Glenn will be fine for at least a couple more years. He may be the first to tell you that he may have lost a step, but his experience more than makes up for that step.

Besides, I think Dunta has been good for Glenn. Those guys get competitive with each other.

Looking to next season, we need some good depth at just about every position.

I doubt Faggins will ever start but they already replaced Coleman with Dunta Robinson. Coleman played FS all year.

Glenn is fine. He will start next year and he is a solid NFL cornerback. I'm sure we will look for his replacement soon because he is getting up there in years but still has plenty of game left.

Polk and Orr are good backups and maybe down the line they could be good starters, but we need for sure playmakers at that position and if you have watched Derrick Johnson all season he is a playmaker. He has the speed to cover and has a sure nose for the ball. I see a lot of people on here talking about wanting Antrell Rolle and Aaron Glenn always getting burned. Every corner will get burned from time to time but even more so if the quarterback has all day to throw. In the words of Deion Sanders "Show me a team that can't get to the quarterback and I'll show you 4 terrible DB's". Antrell Rolle also got burned this year too. Against North Carolina he got burned on a 35 yard touchdown pass caught by Mike Mason, an unheard of sophmore reciever, on the 4th play of the game, and Carolina beat Miami. Rolle is an aggressive corner and he looks good on paper, but will he be a real good fit in Houston? Rolle is going to want big money and his brother Samari is going to help him to get top dollar. Everyone wanted Sean Taylor, but it took Sean Taylor forever to agree to a contract. We were well into the preseason before he even signed a deal, missing all of a much needed training camp (and it showed in the begining of the season). DeAngelo Hall was the top prospected corner coming into last years draft and he missed like 6-8 weeks with a fractured hip (price you pay when you are a rookie asked to be a #1 corner playing Randy Moss). If you ask me we got the better deal with Dunta and he fits perfect with Aaron and the D. As for Aaron's off the field demeanor I could care less, just show up come game time.
If we get 2 picks in the 1st round (which I highly woundn't suggest) I feel we should pick up Heath Miller (6'5" 255lb TE out of VA) with that 2nd pick to give Seth Wand a hand on pass blocking Dwight Freeney and ends like him in our double tight end sets, and he also gives us a threat in the red zone where we struggle the most. Miller also allows us to create mismatches against the linebackers and safeties, and he is a beast on run blocking. We also could put him at fullback and maybe even wideout to really create mismatches against defenses in short yard/red zone situations. Having a guy like Miller doesn't allow teams to focus on doubling Andre and abusing Corey at the line and playing 2 deep coverage. Which is what a lot of teams did making Carr hold the ball too long and forcing the sack. He also could make us better on 3rd down, in which we were awful (38.4%). And the best thing about Miller he would be the cheapest allowing us to spend money elsewhere. In my opinion our main focus this offseason needs to be beating the Colts.

Aaron Glenn still has some gas left in his tank, IMO. The chances of getting a FA CB are about the same as slim and none. Reason? because they are way too expensive and would screw up the cap big-time. If we were that one player away from being SB material, maybe, but we are not. It makes way more sense to do a lot of homework on the CBs available in this Draft and try to Draft a "Diamond in the Rough", as some people call them, in the 4th, or 5th round.

The Texans have done a very good job of building this team with Casserly et. all doing their homework and bringing in good players. There have been some bumps, such as overpaying for Babbin and allowing a division competitor to gain some future ground on us. The offensive line was, and is, a work in progress, and with another offseason together, should be a good bunch, especially in the pass blocking game. Babbin will get stronger in the offseason and be able to take on the offensive tackles a lot better. So he is also a work in progress.

With a good, well thought out Draft, and some judicious additons with mid level FAs, we should be ready to really compete for the playoffs this coming season.
