A letter to the FANS...

Fellow Fans,

I understand that we wanted and expected a better product this season. I mean we were told that the O-line, offense, and defense would be faster, meaner, more experienced and most importantly improved. It has not started off that way, but have a little faith that these beginning blunders are not the norm. We have a dedicated team that was and hopefully that stays past tense playing uninspired and confused. The product is getting better as we speak, is it because of Pendry or the firing of Palmer, no it is due to the fact that the players are pissed with being the laughing stock of the league right now. There are several teams that have not won a game, and have lost against weaker competition, but we are the laughing stock. Expect Fight, Tenacity, and Anger to be on the field on Sunday and every gameday after that. We may not win every game, but we will not look like we have at the beginning of this season. Our team is human and like all of us they have alot of pride, and that Texan Pride will be displayed for the entire NFL and media to see for the rest of the season...

Thank You,

A TRUE DEDICATED TEXAN FAN

I just want to see our defense start hitting people like they dont care what happens to them or any body else. I saw some of this in the second half of the Pitts game.

La-De-Da...yada, yada, yada... :brickwall I think IM gonna puke. Who wrote this? Are you Bob McNair? I mean you gotta be paid by the Texans somehow, right?

...due to the fact that the players are pissed with being the laughing stock of the league right now...

That's one thing I hope you're correct with. Coaching may have been one part, but if the players have a defeatest or "don't care" attitude before the game even starts - doesn't matter who's calling the plays.

Hoping to see some fire within or on some "nether regions" - either location, from here on out.

Hey Texans, the fans are ready.... are you?

You'd have a more receptive audience posting this after one game in which all your predictions bore fruit--now, like gas last week, you're running on empty--ok, change that from all to a couple, maybe one?

Hey Now, it's a change, which is something sorely needed. Let's get behind this change and see what happends. You never know, the attitude of this team and its focus could very well get the kick in the pants it needed. I'm not saying Pendry is the life savor, but let's get behind this change with an open mind. Let's judge after this game.

The Texan that deseves credit so far this year is Bob McNair and unfortunately he doesn't coach. The rest of the team and staff collects his money and underachieves in return...

Technically I am not paid by the Texans, but I have first hand knowledge of what is going on with the team. The guys let me know when they are pissed and you true fans should understand that everyone loses. I mean were you all oilers fans. We never won anything and we have the honor of being the largest comeback in playoff history. We were embarrassing. I am saying understand that the team is receptive that and wants to play better not only for you the fans, but for themselves also.

I applaud your dedication. I am one who thinks as you do. I really believe our team, with some of the changes made, will be more exciting. I just hope the players believe as we. In the past game I saw a lot of quit and I haven't ever seen that with this team.

Either way, I will be in the Bull Pen with my hardhat screaming my head off as always.

TedC I give you a True Texan Fan Salute my man. You seem to understand football and the intangibles that go with it. I will look for you from my lux. box...

We were told "more experienced' as in another year together to GEL. But told we would be faster, at the expense of throwing away experienced I am still having a hard time buying into ... but I'm a patient soul, and will wait for a sign of that better product.

Your whole post was nothing but wishes. You said "it's getting better as we speak?" How? Since when have we seen proof that it's getting better as we speak? I'll reserve that judgment for this sunday when I see them play. It might be getting "different" in terms of some "changes" being made, but I can't possibly see how it's getting "better as we speak."

And then you haul off with the ever-famous "true fans" comment, and try to whip us bad fans into shape. The old "I'm a true fan and anybody who can't put on a cheerleader skirt with me is a bad fan" act is sooooooo tired.

And then, after a a guy OBVIOUSLY is joking that he was the one that dumped beer on the Carr family...you go and get busy with the curse words like a (drum roll please) TRUE FAN!!!

I'll say this: Hooray for some of the CHANGES. But if i see the same lack of desire and the same lack of personal ownership by players other than Dunta Robinson (who IS this team's leader, by the way) this Sunday...I'm going to flame this board like a Burger King broiler at noon in downtown Tokyo.

You would have earned a lot more agreement for your thread if you had not pulled the "true fan vs. bad fan" act.

Bravo DD!

I did not pull any act it is true. I mean dont deny there are true fans and there are not true fans to the texans. There are pessimist(me included) who thought we would suck this year after the moves that were made, but after I saw and heard how the guys felt after Pitt I knew they were ready to make this team better. And they go into practice now with that attitude, so we are getting better as we speak.

I agree. Been a Houston fan for many many years through thick and thin, mostly thin. And I am still here..

Went through the days of "love ya blue" and kick the door down and many more. Yet we have never ever produced a winner. I full confidence in Bob Mc that he wants the same thing as I do.

I would guess that Bob had a heart to heart talk with Dom and Casserly to, how would you say it, "Get er Done". So the first move was on them, the next move will be on Bob Mc at the end of the season... Time will tell....

"better as we speak"

...better does not manifest itself in practice or in rehearsal but when it's 'showtime'--anything can look better when not tested---let's play the game first and then you can talk about better

"I did not pull any act it is true. I mean dont deny there are true fans and there are not true fans to the texans..." -- cadahnic

So now you're begging me and others to agree with you? What happened to your cocky, over-confident macho attitude that just busted down the door and said, "Here I am! Ready or not! Like it or get steamrolled..."?

Any fan that comes here after the way we performed for the past two weeks is a true fan.

Any fan that says "we stink" is a true fan.

Any fan that doesn't reply to any of the posts but just quietly reads the posts for the past three years and nobody knows his existence is a "true fan."

Any fan that says "quit bashing Carr! Quit bashing the Texans! You're not TRUE FANS" is a "true fan."

Any fan who doesn't have an internet connection, can't see the Texans play because they can't afford to come to the games, or lives overseas and can't wait to see a video we send them (like the guy known as Sideline who lives in England and is a poster over at texanstalk.com) and generally reads about us in the newspapers and that's all the see of this team...is a "true fan."

You are not gifted or privileged with the responsibility of defining fans and who is or isn't a true fan. Man, if you can't see what I am talking about...you never will understand the big picture.

We all have the right to speak our minds, and we have the right to disagree. So how about talking some football and how about sticking to football commentary and not "my dad can beat up your dad" attitudes?

good post :texflag:

I, for one, will give an E for effort. I want to see receivers fighting for balls. I want to see assault charges filed against our entire defense for hitting too dang hard. I want to see the O-line gouge out a pocket and Carr actually step up into it. I want to see Davis doing an Emmitt Smith imitation. I can handle a loss as long as I see effort. Is that too much to ask for? Oh yeah...I want to see P-Burnt doing 2-a-day tackling practice until he actually does it in a few games.

Well, i hope your right. I'm not giving up after two losses. Especially, considering who beat us. I'm hoping this offense can get something going. I feel very confident the defense will be okay, and i think the new oc will give this offense a chance to be effective. The players are playing hard and this leads me to believe the coaching is the difference. You can play hard, but if you keep making mistakes that your not aware of, you will not improve. I think the new OC will correct the mistakes and give this offense some direction. The past two games, they have just looked lost. I want to be tailgating in January!

what games have you been watching? our team has looked uninspired and unmotivated these past 2 games... From what ive seen from Carr, he seems happy about the change. Hopefully the change will get our team motivated and quit playing like a powder puff team...

Marc VanDamere and Rich Lord stated on Sports Radio 610 the if the fans didn't raise hell they would be concerned. They said that if the fans DIDN'T CARE, they wouldn't say anything about how this team is playing.

Other than Buchanon, who on this team has not been playing hard. When you rush two your not going to pressure the QB. If this team was not playing hard these last two games would have been much worse, like 38-3, etc. Carr is out there busting his ars, he's playing hard, he just needs better coaching so he can improve. Just because you lose, does not indicate how hard you play.

Yeah I totally agree with you and most of the people on these forums. How in the hell could they lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That is unacceptable. The freaking Steelers. No way the Texans should lose to a team like that. How could David Carr not move the ball against that defense....pathetic.

I agree with most of you guys. True fans sell their season tickets, complain like hell on these board, post a long list of who we should have drafted 3 years ago, boo their team, tell the opposing fans they are going to destroy us, call for the heads of all the coaches & front office, complain about who we cut, complain about who we didn't cut, complain about the owner, use creative insulting names for our players like "p-burnt", and tell everyone we should trade our horrible bust pick QB to another team for a first round pick, most importantly every time another fan makes a positive post and trys to be optimistic make sure you cut that guy down at the knees, we don't want people like that trying to run around here spreading a little sunshine to us fans.

Sorry, not that I meant. I were taling about the fact that the players LOOKED very beat against the steelers, not the kind of behaviour I would expect of someone pissed about their own performance in week 1.

I don't like losses, but I can accept them as long as the team (players and coaches alike) ATTEMPTS to pull that rabbit out. :)

Yep, I sure have.

**** YOU!!!!
^^^ See, we don't have freedom of speech on these forums though.

Lets talk about being a good fan.

A good fan has a right to vent. A good fan has the right to state his view on the current state of his favorite team. But a good fan should not spend their day trying to convice fans (who still care about the team and still have a positive outlook on the team) that they should not care and should give up on the team. Sadly that is what I see consistently on these forums. I use to come here for some camaraderie and to enjoy the company of fellow Texans fans. But now I have to come here endure a daily thrashing of my beloved team. Yeah I know they aren't playing very well (I watch the games). But I don't need to have 50 people try to convince me that I should not like David Carr or that CC ruined our season by picking up P-buc.

All this is going to lead to is less Texans fans. If that is the goal of many of the posters here......well it is probably working.

I am considering no longer coming to these message boards for this exact reasoning. The negativity is killing me.

" am considering no longer coming to these message boards for this exact reasoning. The negativity is killing me."

ok, please exercise your freedom because I'm tired of people like you telling me how I should think and believe. It's simple--on a message board like this there is going to be good and bad, that's a given. What's not a given is being told by posters like you it is only ok to post views you agree with--

Good/positive posts will far 'out weigh' the bad/negative when this team performs to the level of everyone's expectation, not when you say it should. :ok:

I respect your fandom and the time and info you put into your posts, but take step back and take some of the emotion out of it.

We all love to prognosticate and play GM, Coach and talk like we know what is going on in the head of each player - because we are fans. Some of us do not like waht is going on and have one eye on the future and want our team to learn from past mistakes. I honestly believe that those out there who are hating on the board would like nothing better to see our Texans string some winis together. We are all fans, that is why we are here.

If someone is getting under your skin then do not reply, you control the ability to read what is on the board and you control what you post by hitting submit reply (I mean the collective us by using you).

I would recommend we all get ourselves a Lone Star or Shiner, gnaw on our favorite beef ribs, think about hunting, fishing or swimming in a natural spring, and drop our pants and moon Nashville.

Find your inner Texan and all Texans will follow. :texflag:

LBC, I think that is a good post. There are some here who take GREAT joy in tearing down anything and everything about the team. This constant din of negativity (dare I say propaganda?) is influencing some due to the bad start we have had. I am VERY suspiciouse of the agenda of those who NEVER say anything positive about the team. I suspect it is thier intent to sow dissent within the fan ranks because they get joy from causing problems. Anything positive is derided as being a homer by them. Do we have issues...you bet, but all is not bad and we should talk about the good AND the bad.

I saw a lot of true fans at the last game. They were the ones not wearing yellow-n-black...

I see this whole "true vs not true" discussion lame at best. Ease up fellaz, this is not the Oilers...ie. Bud Adams. Be greatful we have a guy with a lot of stock in this team who is as equally intolerant as the fans. This is a very different situation from the past and the future is bright. Just going to need a little patience...

First I was kind of curious as to what cad meant when he said he has first hand contact with the team itself..

Secondly I certainly hope the team gets an emoional charge out of this especially the offense. When confidence leads to points and a lead, that can be contagious... I think the defense has been a lil overworked and just flat out tired. I mean how many times has the defense had to start out on the short side of the field? That can mentally wear on a defense and result in lackluster play by some. If we can stay competitive in the game and not look like blowout victims, Our defense will be more spirited than it was in week 2.

I also think Buchanon is frustrated because he doesnt have a good grasp of the scheme. I think he is expecting more rollover safety help than he is getting.... he needs to tighten up on the receiver and blanket him. That is of course after he goes thru about 8 hours of tackling drills and learns the plays.

Webster's Dictionary says:
(3)Fan--an enthusiastic follower or admirer.

I don't think you could have a more enthusiastic(vocal) or admirers(us) like the Houston Texan fans. We sold out season tickets and regular tickets since day one. True we will voice our displeasure (some boos)with the team, but the good comes with the bad. I know without a doubt that the Team knows their fans are and will be behind them all the way. Let's continue to show the Team that we are!

(Sigh)

This will forever be the major debate, I guess.

People who blindly follow will be tagged HOMERS.

People who dissent will be tagged DOWNERS.

The two will endlessly fight with each other over who is a true fan and who is not.

How about a cease fire?

How about everyone lay down their rifles and shake hands?

We all know this team is in turmoil right now.

But I have talked so much positive football for so long, that I guess it's just finally boiled over for me. We get fed a bunch of propaganda from the Texans P.R. machine (this website) and we believed it. Well, I think regardless of whether you are a HOMER or a DOWNER....we ALL know that this team is not the quality it SHOULD be.

What we do with that knowledge is up to us.

One of the well-known laws of message boards: If you don't like a thread or a post, just (repeat after me) DO NOT REPLY. Let it die.

We're all guilty of replying to a post or a thread and keeping it alive. And the rest of us silently cringe and think, "Arrrgh! Why did he/she respond?!"

I've done it. You've done it. It happens.

The only way to govern the HOMERS and the DOWNERS is to just not reply and leave it alone if you think it's a HOMER thread or a DOWNER thread.

It's up to us to rule over our own board.

"LBC, I think that is a good post. Do we have issues...you bet, but all is not bad and we should talk about the good AND the bad." -- edo783

I understand DD and agree. It are those folks that NEVER say ANYTHING positive that I have distrust of. Lots of folks, my self included, have said negative things, but you and I both know it is NOT all positive nor is it all negative and anyone who is consistanly only negative has some sort of an agenda other than being a fan. Might be a simple as wanting Matt (the statue) Lienert (you know who you are) or it may be as nefariouse such as those who just like creating hate and discontent. For some reason, there are folks who get joy out of that. I am sure you have seen them around, maybe in your work place. Allways seems like they have a cloud over their head and have been sucking lemons all day and want everyone to be has misserable and spitfull as they are.
