Everyone seems to be on the bandwagon to fire coaches after yesterday's debacle, but call me crazy but yesterday was the best game of the year in my eyes. A few thoughts.......
1) I still say fire the coaches at the end of the season, but I'm not sure if you can fire Pendry this week based on the fact that the offense had its best game of the season. Of course, when Capers goes everyone will go at season's end. If you fire anyone this week fire Fangio.
2) The Cleveland game may have ended in victory, but I got the feel from that game that we won simply because Cleveland sucked more than we did.
3) I've heard people explain off Carr's performance based on the fact that the Rams pass defense sucks. Yes, it does, but this is the first game we've actually taken advantage of another team's weakness. That's what NFL teams do. Doing what NFL teams do is progress over doing what junior high teams do.
4) The defense actually attacked and got 7.5 sacks. Yes, the secondary blew chunks, but what do you expect when you have Louis Sanders, Marcus Coleman, and Glenn Earl back there? Fangio got too conservative and that might be the first game where lack of personnel actually may have been primarily responsible for some of the breakdowns. Before, it was just lacaidasical conservatism. But hey, that's what the guy did in Indy, so why should it be different here?
5) Overall, I'm on board with keeping Carr. Yesterday was proof that when you show up with a legitimate game plan he has a chance. Is he among the top half of the league at this point? No. Will anyone else be? No. However, I would say with the right coaching and personnel improvements he could be an upper half QB. He still has thrown more TDs than INTs and he's completing 60% of his passes. People need to stop comparing this quy to Roethisperger or Eli Manning. Would you rather have Joey Harrington at this point.
