A decent mock.. and a crappy one

I was just about to post something like this. Here are a couple of others..both have the texans taking Jonathan Stewart and the Cowboys using one pick on Felix Jones.

http://www.draftking.com/nfl/2008/mockdraft.shtml

18. Houston Texans - Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon °
Stewart had a statement game against USF in El Paso, breaking the Sun Bowl record with 253 yards rushing and two TDs.

How impressive was that? It may vault Stewart into the #2 RB prospect spot below Darren McFadden, though in a draft that is loaded at RB, things could get murky in that "RBs after McFadden" category.

The Texans haven't had a strong option at running back since the 2005 injury, and subsequent retirement, of Domanick Davis (a.k.a. Domanick Williams). Ahman Green has proven to be yet another example of the low-end payoff of bringing in a 30-year-old running back to carry the load, and with the RB talent that should be present in this draft, there should be many players from which to choose for the Texans.

Houston Texans: Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Darius Walker has been solid coming out of the backfield, and Ahman Green and Ron Dayne are both on the roster, but are any of them really the guy whom Houston can ride into the playoffs? The Texans need to address the running back situation, especially considering the plethora of talent at the position in this class.

Don't count out a corner like Antoine Cason or Leodis McKelvin here; the Texans have done everything in their power to take down the Colts ever since they came into the NFL, and a top-notch corner would certainly help. However, the need for a premier running back is too paramount to ignore

This is also pretty cool. A Redskin sight with all mock drafts they can find..so you can hit what you want

Which one ?

So , Which Cb and OL are you two projecting for the second day. Inquiring minds wish to know ?

I'll believe that the raiders pass on Chris Long when Pigs fly.

Atlanta will take McFaddin if Dallas doesn't move up.

don't see much of a difference between the two mocks.

NO one has Chris Long going to Miami. yet it makes 100% sense right now.

I'd be just fine with Stewart @ 18. or Tackles Oher, Vanderbilt, Collins or Baker (injuries?)
3rd: LT Oneil Cousins or Tony Hill or RB James Davis 5'11"208 4.48 And J Charles may fall this far but probably not.

I dont see Charles falling through the 2nd round after the combine workout he is gonna put out.

Expect faster than 4.30 in the 40.

"The Texans still have trouble protecting the quarterback and really need to upgrade their poor offensive line"

I find the fact that we had the 6th lowest sack total means nothing. If they said that we needed help with the aging LT, depth, or help with running the ball I could agree. But do people just see Texans and still think "they need pass protection?"

I understand your frustration and will agree that the national media really don't know enough about our team to give educated insight.

However, as much as they don't know...they're unintentionally still speaking the truth. While our sacks have gone down...which is obvious really good...I give the majority of this credit to the QB's. They get rid of the ball instead of taking the sack. I don't want to discredit the OL by anymeans because they have been a lot better than in the past.

However, LT needs to be upgraded with younger and better talent. Center needs to be upgraded with younger and better talent. I will say Pitts is pretty solid. Weary is solid too but injured and who has any idea about his return. Winston has RT locked down. So overall our OL still looks ugly and can be upgraded at 3 positions.

I think they don't get enough push in short yardage/goal line rushing situations. I also think they allow too much pressure to get to our QB. I would say close to all the fumbles caused are a directly related to the DE getting around the corner and knocking it out during the throwing motion. While sacks have gone down...I would guess that QB hurries have not changed at all. QB hurries are just as important when figuring OL/DL play b/c that's what really causes Interceptions/turnovers.

All very good points

You are saying what I wanted to say. Pretty much, I think the QB play has improved quite dramatically, while the line play only improved a little (And actually regressed a tiny bit in the run blocking department).

For me to think that the O-line play has improved, I'm going to want to see the QB Hurries, and the QB Injuries down just a bit. I know we were like 7th in the league in sacks given up, but don't think for a minute that Salaam did not routinely get beaten by plenty of DE's this year is only kidding oneself.

Honestly, I don't see how anybody could think that our O-line play improved so much that we shouldn't worry about it at all. I think it's a top priority, especially with the Weary, White, and McKinney injuries.

I do like all of the centers that we have picked up recently, and I hope that the competition means we will get a better quality center starting next year.

After looking through most of the drafts, it seems the experts have us pegged for picking either Stewart or Mendenhall (More Stewart than Mendenhall though), or maybe an OT. The mock that has us picking up Godser from Boston College is just flat out wrong. Godser is pretty much a RT no matter how you slice it, and I do not think that will be what we get in the 1st round.

Honestly, I think the drafts that have us taking some defensive player are going to be the ones that are more correct for us. I also think that BPA and all that will play a factor.

Closest I can find quickly...

2007 Outsider's Line Stats:
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol.php
We were 10th in run blocking and 9th in pass protection.

2006 Outsider's Line Stats:
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol2006.php
We were 21st in run blocking and 27th in pass protection.

2005 Outsider's Line Stats: (Interestinger and interestinger)
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol2005.php
We were 8th in run blocking and dead last in pass protection.

I'd like to see hurries included in the pass protection stats.

Personally, I agree that the improvement in pass protection is about the QB's and we needed better run blocking.

I dont see us taking Stewart over Mendenhall.

at least one will be off the board by Texans pick, no need to worry about that. I would love to hear (post draft) what the Texans board looked like? how did they rate each position & who they projected to be available when they selected?

Neither would I. But the fact remains the best chance for the offer is if both are on the board and Seattle gets antsie. So it's going to be an either or scenario . If the move back to twenty five, the DBs will be there and so will the OLT canadates. With the extra two or three you can pick up your RB.

Wow, this is so dead on. I feel filled with smart from reading this. The whole "unintentionally still speaking the truth" just typifies the national media/NFL "experts." Much rep.

I have to wonder where some of these draft/football experts come from. Are they just bloggers who think they know something? So much trash/regurtiated "info/opinion" out there on football.

I do like Walters site and I have argued the point with him that I still don't see us taking a RB in the 1st round and Matt McGuire has us taking Sam Baker which I can happening.

Meh , I have to spread rep around ...... But I agree with this post almost to the letter .
