610 poll: How do you feel about the OL?

Your (letter grade) on how do you think the OL is now vs last year?

They now have weapons to beat a defense when the line is stacked to stop the run.
Caley is a run heavy oriented offense type. Now if he doesn’t have the personnel to run it, whose fault is that? To run the ball effectively, the OL has to have “beat the defensive front four” and Ram it down there throats. Maybe they can try doing this as long as Mixon allows. But if you don’t have other elite weapons, to mix & match or takeover a game, Texans still don’t have that if Mixon goes down. You’re also severaly omitting how ******* great Henderson is in pass pro. Dude we don’t have that, understand? Why do you get so hard headed, and riotous with your attacks trying to bend other posters here to your will?

Texans blew their chance this draft to add a dynamic balanced offense (always lean to defense) to add a bell cow RB (post Mixon) and elite OG to break holes, legs & arms for CJ to actually be free to execute the offense.

So you would have them take Henderson at 34 instead of Higgins?

So basically you already know exactly how Marks future in the NFL will go huh? Dude could very well be that bell cow RB for the Texans. But I get it they didn’t go your route right.

Leaning that way last week before draft. Gut feeling, elite RB would be bigger piece moving forward. Another key will be Ersery. Texans had their choice between Simmons & Conerly Jr. but pivoted moving out of first, then selecting Higgins. Few picks later, after trying to trade up with New England for Ersery (reportedly, not Henderson, over paying in fact) then successful another 10!picks later, successfully to add Ersery.

Fascinating stuff. I’ll wager, they had serious discussions of taking Ersery over Higgins/Simmons/Conerly #25? But wanted to be sure WR addressed (Top Need) Higgins being their guy. Think it worked out well. Now if Mixon foot condition was more serious, I’ll bet Henderson draft board position would have increased to point he was in consideration, making him more competitive to selecting him over Higgins & Ersery. IMO.

Like all players in discussions WHO were drafted by the Texans, just have PTSD when it comes to RB room. Leave it at that!

How did they always lean defense? Higgins, Ersery, Noel, Smith, Marks. So one of their first 5 picks was defense, top 3 were offense. They went IOL in free agency versus the draft.

I think “always lean defense” should be changed to “more likely to hit on a defensive pick”.

Texans have used resources draft/FA/trade on offense. They have just missed (Kenyon Green/Metchie) or had terrible injury luck (Tank) moreso than the defensive picks. That would make sense given they have a defensive HC and just fired their OC. There is a clear vision and a proven defensive play caller on one side… of course those players will work out at a higher rate than a first time OC’s side of the ball who ultimately hit his Peter Principle.

After seeing the last 2 yrs in the playoffs with Collins being the only guy that was worth a crap, I'm more than on board with the Higgins pick and the Noel pick also. I'm thinking Pierce and Marks and a FA pickup during the season can hold the fort down for a few games if Mixon is hurt for a few games.

Not just a play caller but a developer of talent as well.

If you look at what San Fran was able to draft and develop while Demeco was there compared to what’s been happening since there’s a pretty stark difference imo.

Looks like we’re about to sign Nick Chubbs.

Great point as well. DeMeco defenses have a track record of developing talents and having players outplay their contract or draft position. Look no further than the bargain bin DL on this team.

And as you mentioned with the 49ers. The “sign for vet minimum, have a career season, get paid” formula hasn’t been there for the 49ers since DeMeco left.

Doc can tell you more about his medicals. I know this there isn't a single player in the NFL that has more heart than Nick Chubb. I wouldn't bet against him

Doc has mentioned a negative outlook on Chubb. Which makes perfect sense given the severity of his 2023 knee injury. A broken foot ended his season last year as well. But like you said, Chubb is a tough player and if he’s got a chance he’ll make the most of it. Maybe this signing is for both him and Tank to push eachother in the training room and lean on eachother to beat the odds.

Chubb was a top 5 RB talent pre-injury. With an incentive laden contract and Mixon as RB1 I see this as a low risk/high reward proposition.
