Your (letter grade) on how do you think the OL is now vs last year?

Once the Tunsil decison was made, the Texans did what they could. They got the best linemen they could considering the cap implications..They got the best lineman they could in the draft considering the draft capital available. So, A for effort. C for results. And C is better that we've seen in a while.

With our plethora of weapons and at least competent coaching, we may not need to have a better grade on the offensive line than that.
 
I don't like that we lost Tunsil. Love him or leave him, his pass protection was elite.
So until proven otherwise, they get a C which is generous as by this voting system it is above average and to my mind it is just average.
 
At this time last year I was pretty excited about our OL. Juice & Patterson looked solid at the end of 2023. I thought we were ready to take the next step.

I was not expecting Kenyon Green to be inserted back into the starting lineup. Not after his poor performance before injury. The coaches putting him back in the starting lineup after camp... blindly trusting them id10ts... really messed with my emotions.

I understand they drafted Scruggs to be the Center. But what was their plan B? Some of you here were complaining about Mason in 2023. What was their plan there? How bad must Broeker be? Why is he here, or Kendrick Green if they had no intention of putting them on the field? Week after week we saw the same things from the same people.

I hope they understand how they wasted all of camp & preseason last offseason & work extra hard not to let something like that happen again.

I agree with you. And Caley is indicating that he gave CJ full control over everything and that the team is using more motion and screens to cause mismatches and allow CJ to get a firm idea of what they are doing on D pre snap.
 
Tunsil > Robinson by how much?

Howard > Kenyon 100%

Patterson > with TC/his to lose

Scruggs > ? I have no clue if he is going to be better but I can only hope. I don't think this position has been addressed. Tomlinson is basically a left guard but can he switch? Can 6'8 Trent play RG?

Fisher/Brown >
No matter who starts and for how long this position will be quite a bit better.

Caley/Pop as with Robinson cautiously optimistic but we can't do much but wait.

More important question:

Stroud 2025 > Stroud 2024?
Better WRs. Better RBs. Stroud in charge [pun intended] with quick release scheme.

Hopefully better TEs.
Better OC/Line coach
Better playbook?

My prediction: better OLine,Wrs, RBs TEs, coaching and an extremely better JC.
 
Some additions, some subtraction........ theoretically some additions by subtractions

At this point I have to say if coaching wasn't the issue.... then at best we are looking at a lateral shift.

Id say an F but because I expect fewer false starts I will upgrade it to a skeptical D until it is proven CJ wouldn't be mobbed by a troop of over zealous girl scouts.

I’ve been wondering about Broeker as well. Never see or hear anything about him. Kind of a mystery man..
 
In terms of talent, on paper, we’re worse. Ersery will likely be a backup, especially early. So no help from the draft. They let the better FA’s sign elsewhere. Talent wise D. But hoping scheme and coaching is better, so final grade C.

Howard's 2025 cap hit is "only" $11.5 million. No guaranteed money in 2026, but there will be close to $24 million in dead money if cut. Just a bad deal from the jump. But hey, let Nick cook.

We'll find out starting in August what this mess looks like. New coaching and new scheme's could change things for the better, which is what we're all hoping for. The problem is overcoming the piss poor talent level on the line.
 
My question is with a more power/gap scheme oriented run game, do we have any Pearce truthers out there that think he's going to revert to his rookie form?
 
At first as preachin OL here for awhile since last year n beyond "C" presently post draft is very safe. But then later I curved the grade from all of you classmates and gave it an "A". 😂

If Pierce wasn't so well liked, such a hard worker, and team first player...he would be long gone. But Dameon is all of those things. And I think he gets every opportunity to make this team. However, I don't remember a RB like Pierce on any of the recent Rams or Broncos teams. May still be a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.

The crazy part is the season (2023) before looked to be worse on paper than this past season (2024) but it was much better. That just goes to show you what’s on paper doesn’t always work out on the field.

I grade it as a B.
