BUSH DERBY 4-TEAM HORSERACE
With the regular schedule now at the ¾ pole and NFL teams heading for home, it appears that the winner of the Reggie Bush sweepstakes, otherwise known as which team gets the first selection appears to be down to four finalists: 1-11 Houston and the 2-10 New York Jets, San Francisco and Green Bay. Of course, its always possible that those teams will all get hot and bring either of Tennessee or New Orleans, both of which have three wins back into the picture, but its also possible that pigs will fly or that it wont snow (and snow and snow some more) in Canada this winter. Indeed, the Texans, Jets, 49ers and Packers are a combined 1-11 the past month and have a collective 20 game losing streak including the Jets who have lost 7 in a row, the 49ers and Texans 5 each and the Packers three. While one can probably bet the farm that one of Houston, the Jets, San Francisco and Green Bay will ultimately end up with the top pick this year, anyone of the four could just as easily end up with the #1 pick this coming April. Heres a quick rundown on each of the four teams prospects over the final month of the schedule
Houston Of course, as the only one-win team in the league, the Texans could make the whole issue moot if they were to run the table so to speak and finish 1-15. A case can be made, though, that the Texans are actually playing the best of the 4 bottom feeders. The Texans had a W in the bag with St Louis in town tow weeks, but collapsed in the final minute and lost in OT; then last week, they on a walk-off score for a second straight in Baltimore. The Texans also have, by far, the easiest remaining schedule of the four teams in the hunt for the #1 pick. Houstons remaining opponents have a combined W-L record of .375 and the schedule includes games against San Francisco, Tennessee, and 4-8 Arizona. The only complicating factor for the Texans is that 2 of those 3 are on the road with only Arizona to Houston. Indeed, who gets the #1 overall pick this year could still come down to the final week of the schedule when the Texans play at San Francisco.
