24 Hour Rule in Effect

That's right, at 3:20pm CST the 24 hour rule is in effect.

No more talking about the Bills game.

Bills fans re-locate to the Tampa Bay message boards.

Focus on this weekends matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Thats fine, and that's your opinion. But why bury yourself in the past if you can't talk about how to solve the problem in the future?

Each game doesn't exist in a little 24 hour pocket. They're all part of the 2005 season and they effect each other as well. If the Texans beat the Bills you get a completely different team taking the field against the Steelers next week.

I can't do the "Put the bad thoughts away" approach to being a fan. I take the entire season together (and often add in the end of last season or the beginning of next season as needed) in order to arrive at where I think the team is. Right now I've got exactly one "real" game to go on. You saw it so that should explain my opinion right now.
 
also, if we stop whining about the Bills game now to talk about the Steelers, what will we be doing all next week when we're supposed to whine about the Steelers game ? :)

I guess a completely lackluster performance out of the gate, along with the Steelers next week, will do that to anyone, 'eh? idonno:
 
I tell you what.....we need a playmaker like the BK King. He doesn't have a great lower trunk and doesnt have much explosion but that dude just makes plays.
 
I guess if he needed a helmet we could always use Peyton Manning's eh? We could put the Hamburglar in the backfield and line up Ronald McDonald in the slot.

Maybe the 24 hour rule has merit in a 'lovers quarrel' or something... once you put words out there ... they are OUT THERE... can't take things back .. sharp words hurt ... don't go away ... etc., etc., etc.

BUT, as for the Texans ... we are the KIDS in this family argument. We can scream and yell, and jump up and down and try to get their attention, but it's their problem to fix ... and get the "kids" under control and back in line. They don't want to keep hearing ... I hate you, and keep getting kicked in the shins.
They need to figure out a way to get the love back. :)
 
I think this one merits a little more than a 24 hour rule. I was frustrated and angry during and after the game, and it seemed to 'peek' late Sunday night. I'll still stew about it for another day or so, and I imagine by Wednesday I'll start to get out of my funk. On most any other loss I'd agree with the 24 hr rule, but this one was more than just another loss. It looked too much like the rough games of our innaugural season, and I expect more than that from this team.

24 hours ?, I was over that game after a cold six pack and a good night sleep.
Call me crazy but I see the Texans winning Sunday, But I still Hate Carr the guy Must not know there are out of bounds and he can throw the ball there and not to the other team are just stand there and get sacked. :texflag:
 
I think 84 was just trying to ease the misery of yesterday by limiting the mourning period. Time has to go on folks, need to limit your candle light vigils and bandwidth-hogging rants so you don't eat into next week's limelight. :texflag:

I think everyone has overlooked someone who is flying under the radar. the HEB grocery bag was out doing a little PR work Friday. You should see how it dealt with the fans, smooth in and out of the crowd. I think we have a hometown secret weapon here!
 
Today has been much better. I think most of us have calmed down a bit...still dissapointed, but not as crazy and emotional as yesterday. On balance I have to say we have been pretty rational today. kudos to everyone.
 
Agreed. Some of the posts yesterday reminded me of the blasts I posted after last year's season opener, when the Texans lost to what we THEN thought was the "worst team in football"--the Chargers. But a night's rest usually helps put things in perspective, and it definitely did this time around.

Several teams got shocked in upsets yesterday. Was this game even an upset? No way!! I see big things for Buffalo this season, and although I'm still queasy from what I saw from the Texans yesterday, I think it's a little soon to pronounce this team dead. Sure, they picked up where they left off against Cleveland last year, and they face a rock-solid team next, but that annoying early bye week is starting to look like a much-needed "reset" period now. Even the expected 0-2 start isn't a death knell. Give 'em September. There's time to turn this thing around yet. :texflag:
 
In one sense he's right about the 24-hour rule.

But sadly, all a win against the Steelers will do is buy more time for Capers and MORE EXCUSES for people who want a cheap win instead of fixing the roots of this team's problems.

You can knock the fruit off a tree, and it'll grow back. Take an axe to the roots of the tree, and there'll be no more fruit. Period. And this team has bad fruit. Knocking the fruit off this tree this Sunday ain't going to keep the bad fruit from growing back the next week. Or the next season. Etc.

It's nice to be nice, but that time has come and gone. Capers' was a good fit as an expansion team coach. He had been down that route with Carolina, and he had some good skills for getting this franchise pointed in a respectable direction. But that's far far far in the past, and I just can't find it in me to be so nice about this that I rationalize keeping the guy just because he can rally the troops for an emotional victory after a demoralizing defeat.

I've seen that gig all I want. It's time to get someone in here that's a proven w-i-n-n-e-r who knows how to get over the hump. Some guys can do it, and some can't.

It's like Jack Black said in School of Rock: "You know, those that can't DO should teach, and those that can't TEACH....teach gym class..."

Here's to hoping we lose so badly this weekend, that Capers quits on his own and spares us another up-and-down season of demoralizing defeats and inspired come-back stories the following week.

I kinda' want to get to the playoffs. Call me greedy, but it's the goal I have for this team after three seasons of improving our win total each year. It's the next step to take, but I have lost faith in Capers.

I know some of you will laugh, but just how funny is this? My 11 year old nephew came over after the game Sunday, his first question to me was "Why do we always run on 1st down?" Then he said "So if they crowd the line with like 7 or 8 guys on 1st and 2nd down and the double Andre when we try to pass, we're pretty much screwed?" It took him 1 game, how long will it take Capers?
 
with this offense it won't matter what capers does on first down, at least running the ball keeps Carr out of the hospital

i'm going to have to agree here. since dropping 10lbs in the offseason diet pepsi machine has been both a gamebreaker and a positive influence in the locker room.

It would be funny if it was true. The Texans passed more than they ran on first down. This isn't a misleading final game stat that was skewed by the Texans playing their feeble version of catch-up. They passed (or attempted to pass) more than they ran on first down throughout the game.

I don't know about a so called 24 hour rule, but why keep up the stinkin' thinkin'. Let's move on. Also, why would we want to remember the whoopin' we got Sunday. We still have alot of season left!!!

Exactly.

Everyone's got a sour feeling in their stomach after last weekends destruction, but it's already happened and we can't turn back time.

Now lets shift the pent up frustration to where us fans can actually make a difference and that's yelling our asses off against the yellow and black.

I wish I could say the same thing. I woke up this morning with the same rage in my chest that I've had since Sunday. I swear, I think I broke something on Sunday. In their entire existence that was the first game I have no plans to put on DVD. In fact I've already blown it off my Tivo.

I tried to watch it again but it literally made my stomach turn. In three years I've not missed a single game nor have I walked away from one regardless of how ugly it got (I've wanted to at times). A couple of months ago I went and got some tickets to the opener against the Steelers for a friend of mine and myself. He's a Steeler fan and we've been going back and forth since the days of Bum Phillips and Chuck Noll. If I don't feel any better by Thursday I'm giving Barry my ticket and staying home.

That game in Buffalo was IMO a "Fan Altering Event". I don't feel the same way about the Texans that I did before that wretched performance.

Well, last year I crowed about our inconsistancy. They addressed it, but the pendulum swung the wrong way.

I am hoping that we show who are really are on Sunday. A win would sure help morale on the team, and on this board. The emotional rollercoaster some of you are on have the Psychiatric community on alert. Time to end the pity party and get on with the season!

So, the plan is to start the Waterboy at QB, Diet Pepsi machine at WR, right? :)
