2025 Post Draft 53 Man Roster Projection

Collins, Kirk, Higgins, Noel, Hutchinson, Berrios makes a hell of a lot of sense to me! but Watson really had no shot to do anything today given that he played primarily with Mertz... Metchie still can't play a game without multiple mental lapses.
Metchie was a feel good story but time to move on. I don't see why any team would give anything for him.

Good point. I don’t think the team got a fair evaluation of the WRs with Mertz in the game. I’d expect Watson to get some “Mills reps” next week.

Guys I want to see get more time with Mills and the twos:

Jawhar Jordan
Justin Watson
Luke Lachey

Jordan made some nice blocks in pass protection and managed to get 3 YPC behind the UFL gang “blocking” in front of him. I want to see what he can do if he gets the same type of blocking Dare did.

Watson, I want to see what he can do if he gets a catchable football thrown his way. He’s spent his career catching footballs from Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes… Mertz was an adjustment.

Lachey I want to see if he has the goods to help this team this season. He’s a Y TE, the team wants to be a physical running team. Lets see if the big guy can help.

EJ Speed has made a convincing case to be a starter. He looked better than the twos he was playing against which is what you want to see from someone in competition.

Now I want to see what To’o To’o and Harris can do. None of these three should be gifted the LB2 job. This should be an honest competition.

Hill is making a case for keeping 6 LBs on the active roster. I love his speed and it looks like he’s developing nicely. I think he has the goods to be a quality ST who can push for starter reps next season if he continues his upward trajectory.

I’m feeling pretty good about the LB room:

Azeez, To’o To’o, Harris, Speed, Niemann and Hill.

I think the team carries 9 DL on active roster and trades one of the 10 I have making it. I think Togiai deserves a spot in the room and can continue improving. He brings the needed youth dimension to the AARP lineup the Texans are currently carrying at DT.

Speed has not been known as a good coverage linebacker, but he has the speed to do it. Pun not intended!

I think a guy like DeMeco can help him take a step up in that category because the raw tools appear to be there. It’s attention to detail and learning all the keys, etc. If all are healthy…he’s probably 4th on the DC, but he will see snaps even if by miracle, Harris plays 17 games. He showed up and stood out, and has the swarm attitude DeMeco wants.

Speed excelled as a ST player with Frank Ross before replacing Darius (Shaq) Leonard in Indy. He’ll find a way to play on Sundays.

Speed wasn't great in coverage last season. But he was good in 2023, his first season as a starter.

Not sure what was the difference between 2023 & 2024.

As a reference, here are the returning Texans LB passing rating against in 2024.

Al-Shaair - 92.8
To'oTo'o - 125.1
Hansen - 122.2
Harris - 118.7

Even in a down year, he was better than everyone except Al-Shaair. I honestly thought Harris was better in coverage, but I guess not

I think his scores this year were more a factor of the overall defense being worse. They were awful against the run to begin the season and likely overcompensated at the expense of the passing game.
