It's often the case that some players would rise up and outperform their draft slots; some even excel as UDFAs.I didn't stay up for the Texans' picks last night, so I checked my phone with anticipation when I got up this morning- and I must say that I'm feeling underwhelmed. Day 1 was an enormous success, IMO. Day 2 was meh. I'm not wild about Scruggs, and while the trade up doesn't bother me in a vacuum (the Texans have a ton of picks in the draft, and were likely going to end up cutting a couple of late picks anyway), the fact that they were spent on a player I am not sold on is disappointing. It's the same thing with Dell- I don't think he was the best WR available. In fact, I think there are WRs still available that will have a better career than Dell. So the trade up, while it doesn't sound like bad value (does anyone actually have the picks exchanged?), seems unnecessary to me.
It matters more to me that there seems to a cohesiveness in team building.
Before DR, I did not think the Texans were on track to compete in the AFC South this year; now I do.
Players are individual; how they fit with a certain system is a different matter.
Most important to me is whether the team, as a whole, is trending in the right direction.
