It's often the case that some players would rise up and outperform their draft slots; some even excel as UDFAs.

It matters more to me that there seems to a cohesiveness in team building.

Before DR, I did not think the Texans were on track to compete in the AFC South this year; now I do.

Players are individual; how they fit with a certain system is a different matter.

Most important to me is whether the team, as a whole, is trending in the right direction.

I know this, the Rockets and Stros won championships by doing exactly what you dont want the Texans to do. But I'm not going to change your mind.

This draft looks like Caserio is drafting for his job and doesn't really care about next yr. Which is sad because the 2024 draft is loaded.

The poll on this board found an overwhelming majority of people anticipate he will be a good to great quarterback. I was okay with picking him. I feel like he'll be an average starter in the NFL. IMO, if the team can build a great defense and find more weapons for the offense (right now it's basically Pierce - there is no #1 receiver and the TE is on a short contract), in a couple years they could make some noise in the playoffs.

I preferred the Texans would have focused on the defensive side of the ball in this draft, instead they've gone the opposite direction and we'll see how it goes.
 
How are we grading Caseiro post draft. I know he isn't done, but the more significant picks have already been placed.

I would give him a B+

Think we may have given up a little too much from 12 to 3.... but

I could be convinced by a better football draft analyst that this draft didn't have many good prospects on that 33 overall pick, or that Will Anderson was not only the best defensive prospect in this draft, but more than likely the next one as well.

Would be curious to see what people think? I am a huge believer in Stroud due to spending a lot of time on him and Young after the season ended. I actually preferred Stroud after watching both of them, but of course I could be VERY VERY wrong on that.

Scruggs and Tank seem like late risers post senior bowl.

Tank looks like he could be a really good option out of the slot on 3rd down.

Look forward to hearing from some of you.

I think it is a combination of Caserio drafting for his job, giving the new HC what he wants, and ownership getting what they wanted.

Just me - but I think ownership wanted a QB this year. Cal has been through QB purgatory, saw his dad get Osweiler’ed, saw fans with no confidence in him and wanted to turn it around.

Some of us wanted to wait a year. Others, or ownership and some fans have shown their unwillingness to wait.

We will see if it pays off.
 
Kuntz strikes me as more of a workout darling than an actual NFL player. I don't necessarily have a problem with drafting a player and hoping he develops, but I think he's going to get drafted before I would be happy about the Texans doing it. At the end of the day, regardless of his immense athleticism, his production is atrocious.

We have to trust him at this point. There's no choice.

Although I dont like the Stroud pick and think this pick ensures high end mediocrity for a few yrs, I do like the fact that they made a bold move for the 1st time in franchise history.

MLB and NFL are apples-to-oranges. You have years to build with prospects in the MLB, you can stash talented guys in AAA, and your stars have long shelf-lives. You have under 60 spots in the NFL, with insane wear-and-tear. That building block you drafted three years ago may be worn down now.

The modern NFL is closer to the NBA. You get your franchise QB (just like your superstar in the NBA) and put whatever you can around him. In the modern NFL, if you have a great QB, you are a contender. The Bengals were a garbage fire for years. Got Burrow and became Super Bowl contenders in two years. Same with the Bills.

He can play.

Started out at Penn St. and got beat out by Friermuth. (No shame in that.) So he transferred to Old Dominion.

Ownership meddling is why this franchise is where it is. That and the fact a previous GM drafted a pervert.

Not really

Tanking and waiting on a QB seems to have worked out pretty well for the Bengals.

I like him as Calijah Kancey-lite. Would be a good 3T if he adds a few pounds. I expect them to add another DL today but fits more of the Omenihu type length profile.

I do like Adebawore and Karl Brooks in this range though.

I don't think I ever saw him play, so I'm just working off of stats and scouting reports- neither of which impress me. He really has only one season as a starter, and even then, averaged less than 10 yards per reception. That is terrible for a guy with that kind of size/speed advantage playing outside the power 5.
 
I'm hoping for Tyler Scott (WR) & Terell Smith (CB) with the first two picks today.

Scott adds more badly needed speed (4.44 speed) to the WR corp.

Smith (4.41 speed) looks to be an upgrade to Nelson & could give us one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

And a third round pick next year is equal to a 4th rounder this year? Is that how the value of future picks are determined? I never understood that but if true, the Texans traded a 4th for a 4th.

Yeah. I would have expected something extra from that. I'm not sure we have all the details of that trade, yet.

For the rest of the day, tomorrow that 3rd is a 3rd. So if there is a player who want on another roster, you know have a third to offer.
