2023 Combine

Has Smith ever actually been asked to perform in coverage for anything more than a couple snaps here or there? If he has, cool. If not, maybe we calm down in saying he can be used in coverage. Having the athletic profile to be able to do something doesn’t mean a prospect can actually do it.

He's a 3-4 olb to me who can rush at times.

Fair point, but there's no way he's lasting to the 4th round. Or at least I don't think so. Then again, I'm not a pro scout.

Am I the only guy that doesn't know his arm length? I'm 5' 10" and seem like fairly average-length arms too. What's just a normal-sized guy like me supposed to have?
Did anyone question Aaron Donald? Did they wind up eating their words?

Answer to both is a resounding hell yes. Some positions require certain lengths/measureables. Productivity inside for DL is the most important factor. He is a disrupter. Coming out of Pitt same school as Donald. His measured arm length was 30 5/8" not 30". He is 6'1" 281 lbs. Aaron Donald arm length was 32 5/8" so he's had 2" longer arms yet also 6'1" 285. Donald ran 4.68 Kancey 4.64 just breaking Donalds Combine record for DT's. 1.63 10 yard split to 1.64. Would say they're damn close. Shows on tape too but Donald does have a big edge here far as productivity numbers 91 vs 77 yet Aaron Donalds draft grade did not accurately reflect his NFL career, grading out 5.90 (Nolan Nawrocki) vs Calijah Kancey 6.37 (Lance Zierlein).

So good news Porky, your more on point like Zierlein than that other guy (4th/5th rd) Nawrocki

I’m with you, and that I wouldn’t mind a potential Aaron Donald as a Texan. His production is there.

There is going to be a real strong cluster around #12 not even including WR.
That strength is going to stretch deep into round two.
I foresee a trade up by multiple teams to catch them - including Texans who fortunately are well stocked with picks.

Don’t want to ever see Caserio trade down from this area of draft again until he proves he’s better evaluator. Personally will never recover from last year 1st rd picks. Thankfully he pulled better later, when it should be harder not easier, which might be because he’s over thinking process, instead of keeping things simple.

So you have to wonder, how many of those stinky picks last year were Lovie Smith picks? And, if so, how many this year will be DeMeco picks?

DeMeco would not have wanted to take Stingley with that pick. He wouldn't have done it. But what does that actually mean? Is Caserio that easy? Or, is it really Caserio making those picks?

Unfortunately we may not get the answer to that this coming draft because of the stress being put on the organization to get a QB. This can force Caserio/DeMeco to move in a direction they wouldn't on their own.

I was disappointed with the direction NC went with last year as well. I wanted Sauce. But I will say he has had some nice picks (Pitre, Pierce, Lopez). I’m hoping that this year we add more quality pieces as a foundation for the team and future.

Yes, this is troubling. If Caserio can’t control the draft board, either from war room or last game of the season with significant draft implications it’s checkmate as GM.

As long as the draft system *mostly* works, they probably won't mess with it. I think so far with Casino it *mostly* works, with a tendency towards mid to later round picks making up for some early mistakes. Mostly. :)

I dunno is this about what folks expected or is he shorter than expectations ?
Guess he's a little heavier than expectations ?
Shorter.
I figured at least 5"11"
Hell, Max Duggan is probably close to 3" taller.
Edit - correction, he is almost 3.5 inches taller...
No wonder his height was kept secret.
Not good.

We had an old 78 record of the classics that did that during the William Tell Overture !

When you watch the tape, Kancey is way more explosive and disruptive than Carter and its not even close. The motor is an issue with Carter.

More I read about Carter the more signs point to him being another Clowney level player than a true superstar type force. Clowney was a nice player to have while here, but always left you wanting more. I would rather take a swing at a player who’s motor runs hot and maximizes their talent level.

Stroud killed his workout today. I still have Young ahead based on game play, but if Young goes at 1.1 I run that card up to the desk and bring CJ to Houston.

I do have some minor concerns over his agent, and still wishing he could play off schedule more consistently, but if he gets in a rhythms , I think he’ll be a very fine QB.

That said, Bryce answers both of my concerns…and adds one of his own which is size related. That said, game film doesn’t lie. It’s Young #1 and Stroud closing the gap a bit, but still #2 for me.

But if I am Nick, I am coming out of this draft with one of these two guys.

Jeez thanks Thorn you jinx piece a sh**… now they’re guaranteed to take him.

If he takes Stroud, (and I hope he does) they need to grab Jaxon Smith-Njigba at 12 if he’s still there.
