2021 OptimisticTexan Mock Draft / No Trades

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
So, with Watson nor Watt available to bring in any draft capital for the 2021 NFL Draft....I will do my Mock Draft based on the current selections:

RD3-03-067: Ben Cleveland / OG-OC / Georgia / 6-6 @ 340 lbs / I'm guessing Dickerson and Humphrey will be off the board by the time pick 67 rolls around. Cleveland is a massively big man who's quick and possesses top tier strength. They say he's an immoveable object who plays with a nasty demeanor. I would love to move him to Center where his weakness (lateral movement) wouldn't be on display. With all the signings....the Texans could let this monster cure a little longer before letting him him take over.

RD4-04-110: Trey Sermon / RB / Ohio St / 6-1 @ 215 lbs / Sermon just looked like a man amongst boys in the Clemson game....which show cased a lot of his skill-set. I believe he possesses the ability to do everything a three down back will need to do. Although he suffered an injury in the CFB Championship Game....the Texans busy off-season landed enough veteran RB's to allow Sermon the time to fully heal and prepare himself for the NFL.

RD5-03-148: Adetokubo Ogundeji / LB / Notre Dame / 6-4 @ 256 lbs / AO is going to need some time to develop but possesses the tools to become a very solid and productive Front 7 defensive player. The good....Caserio has signed enough veterans to let an athletic player get adjusted and defensive coaches the time to find his best place on the field.

RD5-14-159: Charles Snowden / LB / Virginia / 6-6 @ 232 lbs / I've liked Snowden since I first started hearing about him. He's got freaky size to go along with long arms and speed. I'm not certain if he'll size up to be an ILB or if he could be strengthened up a bit more to become a truly freaky S/LB hybrid enforcer. He does possess the ability to cover....so why not have him become a hybrid specialist who could be a positive matchup against any NFL TE.

RD6-11-196: Marquez Stevenson / WR-KR / Houston / 5-10 @ 182 lbs / Speed....speed...speed. As Jimmy Johnson stated, you cannot coach speed. MS could certainly be groomed in the same manner as Fuller V which is to take the top off defenses and provide a scare as a returner on ST's.

RD6-19-204: Tyree Gillespie / S / Missouri / 6-0 @ 217 lbs / This guy is know as an enforcer. Sure wouldn't mind having one of these guys floating around in the outfield looking to lay the lumber to those crossing in front of him. Until he's ready to enter the rotation.....he can lay that lumber on returners while working on ST's.

RD6-28-213:
Nick Eubanks / TE / Michigan / 6-5 @ 256 lbs / What would a Texans draft be without selecting a TE at some point. NE had a disappointing senior season which caused this stumble in his draft status. What I like, he's coming out of a pro-style offense where Michigan does incorporate their TE's. He may not require a big learning curve to figure out how to utilize his size advantage. He can catch so I can only conclude that his biggest weakness is knowing how to use his size to be an effective blocker or chipper.

RD7-05-234:
Chauncy Golston / DE / Iowa / 6-4 @ 268 lbs / Has moldable attributes and is viewed as a solid fit in a 4-3 scheme where he has a solid history with Iowa as holding the edge in check and forcing runners back inside. Been a long time since the Texans had a true DE that could do this job effectively. In RD7.....obviously not expecting RD1 production but if he could learn this job from the PS or as an active member of ST's it would be a big win for the Texans and Caserio for this draft.

Look forward to the feedback and/or conversation.

I thought Sermon was a RB for OSU .

Really high on developing LT to replace Tunsil, Brady Christianson, BYU 6-5 302. Never be all world franchise tackle but I never, ever want to spend that kind of draft capital and cap debt again.

Paulson Adebo , CB Stanford 6-1 198 pair him with Justin Reid, like intelligence with plus size measureables. Primarily man to man coverage on the boundary but has zone experience as well.

Cornell Powell, WR Clemson 6-0 204 poor mans DHop. Great hands, wins contested balls, good route runner from big time pro style program that’s produced.
