All Pro
Rd 1: David Edwards, OT - Is an absolute monster in the run game. Capable of blowing the doors open and producing large rushing lanes for the ball carrier. Effective in head up blocks to run the feet and roll hips through contact, isn’t reliant on double teams to physically dominate.
Rd 2: Julian Love, CB - Quick feet to mirror-and-match receivers in man coverage. Explodes to the ball from a standstill in underneath coverage. Reads the 3-step game well and processing the action in front of him quickly. Makes plays on the ball with ability to close on routes breaking in front of him. From off coverage, uses hands well to re-direct and even jam up a receiver down the field (albeit testing the illegal contact rules).
Rd 2: Kaleb McGary, OT- Just a steamroller of a human being. For his size (6’6, 320) he’s an excellent athlete. Has a devastatingly powerful punch–one-handed and two–that can shake defenders off their spot.
Rd 3: David Montgomery, RB - Outstanding contact balance. Runs through defenders with churning legs to pick up yards after and through contact. Can drop his pads and run over smaller defenders. Sturdy, stout NFL build for a workhorse running back.
No Rd 4 due to trade for DT.
Rd 5: Nick Harris, OG - A devastating punisher as the lead blocker on power concepts, especially on kick out responsibilities. Has the freedom in his hips to work the full range of angles required in interior pass protection; can respond to inside/out moves with appropriate patience and weight distribution.
Rd 6: Keesean Johnson, WR - Johnson is a smooth operator with flexibility as a route runner. He does an excellent job of bending and torquing his upper body to accelerate his breaks. The “something extra” in his routes is how he uses his hands to avoid contact from defensive backs, and he will separate at the top of the route with a little physicality when necessary.
Rd 7: Montre Hartage, CB - Has terrific ball skills, has found hands on a number of footballs thanks to discipline in zone coverage. Very effective in breaking the hands of receivers at the catch point, playing scrappy and swiping through to ensure receivers are unable to transition the ball into their bodies.
The prospect reviews are from a range of different draft sites, and are only some of the positive notes. There are several other players on my list, so I’m sure this won’t be the first mock draft of mine.
