2019 Texans free agency

Lol. Yes we need to upgrade the OL. No not picking up the trash in this crappy FA is not the end of the world. The panic here is laughable. We won 11 games with this OL. Three of our 5 losses were game where we had the lead at the end and our defense couldn’t make a stop. The secondary is the real problem with this team and that hasn’t been improved at all. If Taylor and Dillard and Williams are gone (most likely) then its Greedy Williams. If Greedy is gone I can see us going BPA. This board is going to lose its mind. There are several good OL they could take first that would start right away at RT and I would be fine with that but they’re not head and shoulders better than what you could get in the second at RT. Not to where we should pass up a great prospect that falls because of whatever reason.

Reid last year for example. This draft has some seriously good prospects early and very solid second tier prospects that last until the third round. Don’t pass up a great prospect for a second tier prospect because of a need when the second tier will be around for our next three picks.

Hopefully Gaine is smarter that the average poster here and doesn’t panic and pass up a superior player early for a need. I can see some really good players fall that we would be stupid to pass up. I actually would seriously consider trading down if a player falls that other teams covet at 23. Whatever happens if it isn’t an OL first you guys are going to need some serious counseling.

HappIER.

Waiting on c&d to chime in.

Oh Doc is going to have field day with this one.

PFF: "Matt Kalil’s $55 million deal is shaping up to be an all-time bad signing. He earned a 63.1 overall grade in 2017 before missing all of 2018 with yet another injury. It will cost them more to cut the soon to be 30-year old tackle than to roster him in 2019, but either way, you likely don’t want him starting."

I've got this sneaky suspicion that Devlin convinced the team he could take Khalil to new heights as an NFL LT if he were just given the chance to coach him up.

Free money for Khalil. Doubt he plays much.

O'Brien will put him in long enough to realize he is terrible.

The terrible moves on offense just keep coming

Since my post was at the bottom of the last page most probably won't see it but here are his 2017 stats compared to what we have now... I don't care for the signing but it's technically an improvement from what we had if he can at least play up to his 2017 season. (Which isn't asking for much)Screenshot_20190322-194602_Twitter.jpg

Murphy looks better but likely won't fall far enough.

As someone who lived (just moved to Georgia) in Charlotte my whole life no one panther fan ever liked him when he got signed here. And of course we sign him cause gotta love the VALUE players. This dude doesn’t even have any value. At what point will Gaine take good on his words. He’s said multiple times protecting Deshaun is a priority yet here we are.

Matt Kalil do I like the signing no.but at least it's a body that has a chance of returning to pre injury form. What did it cost? Is there a chance of him moving inside?

More like the 99¢ store.

And there you go. We've been conditioned to be happy about getting a body instead of a football player.
I have been railing to sign T.Brown. J.James but Texans did not see it that way. As you said bargin hunting. Texans should sign Penn as well to 1 year deal then draft at least 2 OL early.

@Cody_Stoots: Matt Kalil will not be on the Texans 53-man roster when they start the season. If the previous sentence is wrong, I’ll be floored. https://t.co/ihoecTCQJe

@aaronjreiss: From @josephperson's story when Carolina cut new #Texans LT Matt Kalil: "The Panthers simply didn’t think Kalil was durable or good enough to keep on the roster any longer." https://t.co/2aRtmu6B1j

But, don't we expect our young players to get better & guys who are 30ish are who they are?

Is it more likely that Kalil will return to pre-injury form, or that Davenport will close the gap those #s suggest?

The Texans were fools for hanging on to the Clown that way and should have made trading him for a #1 (Anybody's #1 this year or next). Instantly could have replaced him for less money with Justin Houston who will be playing this game at least as long as Clowney's knees are working. Now the Colts are going going to have this guy chasing Watson while the Texans spend $15 million on what could very easily be one of the last good years Clowney will see in his career.

I don't have a problem with much of the inactivity in free agency but I think this was a big mistake.

Sad thing is Clowney's $$$$$ could've been spent protecting Watson,

Are y'all really comfortable with a rookie/Davenport protecting Watson's blindside? I'm sure not and that's why I'm ok with signing Penn even though I know that's a losing proposition.

Give me a guy in the lockerroom that's done it even if I know I'm going to have to pay for less games/performance.

I do get where CnD's coming from, I just see things differently.

And WHO can he sign in this crappy FA class that would make you happy?

Spent on who?

Son graduated from there.

Moving him to Connecticut Arril 1st. Job related, 1st time he's lived outside Texas. Mom's sad, I'm rightfully feeling the repercussions

My youngest son moved to Michigan for his job . After 10 months they called him and said a job opened up in Houston if he would like to return . So I flew to Detroit in mid January so we could drive a Uhaul back pulling a trailer with his car on it . I'm convinced now I'll never live up north .

Wife and son are doing a road trip that week. I've got work and am going to fly up there that 4 day weekend.

Matt Kalil probably comes cheap - he used to be a great player. Will he get back to his old form? Probably not. But there is a small chance he is better than who we have now. So I like this as a low risk move - and I hope the Texans know, he is not the answer here, we still need to draft an OT very early. But as another camp body who can compete for a spot, sure I take it.

Davenport is not a rookie anymore.

So far, the Texans have signed 2 cornerbacks, a safety, a blocking tight end, a left tackle, a quarterback and re-signed several of their own, and yet, no one seems to be satisfied. Gaine has signed some solid players so far. No big splashes but the players he got should contribute and make the team as a whole better. The draft is still coming. I'm of the opinion that Gaine wants to set the draft up so he can take the best players available when the Texans picks come up. Re-stock other positions that could become positions of need. Add depth at some other positions. I don't think the Texans are in a bad place.
I think Gaine actually made the team better so far. Keep your peepers open and let's see how Gaine approaches and uses this draft. It could be good.

I'm ok with the moves on defense. The Texans signed 3 young guys in the secondary, the weakest point in the defense. The have shown potential in the past and crennel can probably get a little more out of them. Sucks to lose Mattheiu but overall I can see the unit being better. Letting KJ go was smart I think.

On offense they got a blocking te and a real backup QB. Great but the ol, the biggest need, was not addressed. Kalil is another in a long line of head scratching O'Brien moves that make no sense at all.

If he plays there is a good chance he gets Watson hurt, and given OBriens history he will start kalil no matter how bad he looks on training camp.
