2018 NFL Draft

Two good picks but they blew this one imo. There was much better talent on the board and they already have Anderson who is similar.

Now that we have info on how Gaine is drafting looks like offense is going to more spread concepts. Emphasis on quickness/athleticism. The traditional Y TE is not gonna be around and instead we get a matchup problem in Akins.

Zierlein said that Akins stood out on film for his ability to get separation. If you're rating a TE based on the combined package of blocking and receiving, it's not a surprise he ranks low.

^ What he said.

26 year old rookie. Drafted by the Rangers where he spent 4 seasons in the minors. Was a WR initially at UCF. Good weapon for Watson.

I think it's official...O'Brien doesn't know TEs. Fiedo was finally becoming something, but I've lost faith we'll ever see great returns at that position as long as B'ob is here.

In other words, Stephen Anderson! You might remember him not as a 3 rd but as a UDFA. This guy could have been had in the 6th more than likely. Not a good value imho.

Did someone drag Ricky back into the draft room? This reeks of Rick Smith trying to be the smartest guy in the room.

Ruins what was shaping up as an excellent 3rd round.

Gil Brandt April 24th ranked Justin Reid #49 and Rankin #59 as a center. So he has started as LT (compared to Antonio Gates), projected by many to RT, others say OG and here he is projected to center. If true he has increased value as multi positional player.
#98 TE J Akins hmm

Tomorrow we won't wait long to know our guy at #103 pick three fourth round.

Well you still have to count Watson & Oz as part of this draft class. It hurts and painful but we gotta move on even if it grades out average.

I’m sitting right here and didn’t see Texans pick?

Im gonna say something rhetorical like "water is wet."

We are an aftermarket for the NFL. They do this every year. Texans pick? Cue the commercial. This year wasn't as bad as years past.

We needed a te ,but did we need to reach 3 rounds to get him?

Our day 2 grade is ho,hum for me.

Thomas or Schultz. Take your choice Bill. Nah, I’ll take the Stephen Anderson tweener clone. Can’t have too many guys that can’t block and and will catch 12 passes a year.

Sources Tell Us

"That guy (Jordan Akins) stood out to me at (Senior Bowl) practice. He got open against most of the players who were guarding him." - AFC area scout

I think I know what team that scout scouted for. I don't recall all the changes in the scouting department after Smith left but they missed firing at least one of those bozos.

I hope I am wrong but to me it was a reach. I will say another weapon for Watson isn’t a bad thing but I think Thomas was such a better choice imo. Time will tell.

On to round 4! Griffin would be intriguing at LB.

Im here texting, reading posts, and checking emails. The tv is now muted. I look over and see carr and casserly analyzing the draft silently. They'e both ghosts of our historic failure as a franchise. No need to turn the sound on. We did nothing significant tonight. We're an afterthought like usual.

Maybe tomorrow will be better?

After watching some of the Akins tape, I actually kinda like it. Everything except his age. Will need to bulk up to about 260. (He's 250 now)

He makes safeties and LBs miss in the open field and he's a clear mismatch.

He's pretty twitchy which is unusual for someone that's 250.

Nice arm length (33 1/2) I wonder what his 40 is. I'd guess 4.6, but that's only based on what I see from the film.

Dare I say it... I like this pick.

The difference in a tackle at 35 vs. the 3rd round could be a decade of stability.

Thanks to osweiler for 1 last dry hard ph@ck. That trade sucked. And for those of you who don't understand it now, your out of your mind.

Dare. And I hope your right.

Also, for guys wondering about Ian Thomas, I might be wrong but OB coached Akins and Thomas on the south team and picked Akins.

Let's show a little faith..

So.....take the best player available with the 3rd pick of round 4, or hope some team wants that pick and trade back for more?

I'd be inclined to trade back for a couple extra picks in the 4th. If not a trade back, who is next for the Texans at that slot?? Lots of good CB's left.

They should take Ballage, as community service if nothing else. If not, I’m afraid mussop is going on a rampage. It won’t be pretty, people.

Vince young just had to read the name Harold Landry... he called him honor landry..

Hey give him credit for getting 50% of the 6 letters correct.

OR

VY is being a sly marketer and opening a chain of washeterias called Honor Laundry. He’s not as dumb as he looks. Ok what the bleep am I talking about he’s dumbo.

It’s tradition. You can’t break tradition.

98. Jordan Akins, TE, Central Florida

Grade: B

They take a pass-catching tight end who will help DeShaun Watson.

The vid beerlover posted gives me some hope. Big fella has a little wiggle on those TE screens, which I didn't expect.
This pick may be a nice surprise.

Strange - he gave Justin Reid a B - shoulda been at least a B+ at #68.
He gave Rankin a B+.

My wish list top of 4th round...

Will Richardson
Ian Thomas
Daesean Hamilton
Mark Walton
Nyhiem Hines
Da'shawn Hand
Shaquem Griffin
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Tony Adams

TRADE DOWN because I like a ton of guys and want another pick!

Trade down if we get a good offer. But as much as I’d like to take another OL’man (I like Teller at OG or Richardson at OT), I think we need another deep threat. Both have inconsistent hands, but I’d give consideration to Deon Cain and Equanimeous St Brown. I sure do like Brown’s size and leaping ability for the Red Zone.

That guy is intriguing. Kind of a sleeper, if it's possible for a sleeper to come out of Notre Dame.

My guess for the next pick? Best Senior Bowl defensive player available.

De'shawn Hand - DL, Alabama

De'shawn Hand - DL, Alabama

Him and Griffin ;)

Hand has been playing the role of rotational DL that he’d be here throughout college and has ideal size/measurables plus uses his hands very well. Knock on him is he should have produced more with all those tools but Bama was DEEP on the DL while he was there. i wonder if he would have put up big numbers playing somewhere he could have been the guy on DL? Valuable insurance and help for JJ if we go that route. Would allow Clowney to play OLB more where we would be a bit more thin.
