2018 NFL Draft

Sam Hubbard - DE
Ian Thomas - TE
Michael Gallup - WR
Da'shawn Hand - DE
Shaquem Griffin - OLB
Mark Andrews - TE
Armani Watts - S
Tim Settle - DL
Kalen Ballage - RB
Jaylen Samuels - TE
Alex Cappa, OT,
Josey Jewell - ILB

And special teamer.

That would be a gutsy pick, but Harrison is hands down the most talented OT in this draft.

I really wanted Royce Freeman with the comp pick. Nice pick by Elway.

I could be wrong but I think he means Ronnie Harrison. A safety from Bama who is falling down the draft board right now after having a solid 2nd round grade.

Pf weekly profile...

Struggles in man coverage against speed.

Is he a day 1 starter over hal? I like his 5 int stat last year.

Looks like 3 resident draftniks chimed in happy with Reid. I'll take it.

There was a time when the draft went 6 rounds before they annonced names I didn't know. Not anymore. As I said upthread, casserly and Rick burned me out on the draft. If you guys approve then it's an upgrade imo.

Well I wanted safety in third until my final mock where I took Igwebike so I'm satisfied with Reid and that marks off one position for me. It's possible he could be great insurance in case Badger doesn't extend with Houston.

ok very good with this guy for RT

Martinas Rankin, OT, Mississippi State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 308. Arm: 33.75.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2018): 2-3.
4/24/18: Rankin is a good athlete as a left tackle, possessing quick feet and an ability to mirror speed rushes. He shows a nice ability to sustain blocks at times, but he needs to add more power for the NFL.

In speaking with sources at a few teams, they like Rankin's athleticism and intangibles, but they felt he lacks strength and gets knocked to the ground too much when going against power. They say that Rankin is a good athlete, a good kid, smart and versatile, but his lack of strength is problematic for the NFL. Some feel that Rankin could develop into a quality starting left or right tackle once he gains strength. Others think he profiles well to guard. Some team sources think Rankin will be a second-round pick.

Multiple sources from a few teams compared Rankin to Troy's Antonio Garcia, who was a second-day pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. They see Rankin as a similar talent for the 2018 NFL Draft.

link on Rankins from NFL combine And Lance Zerlein:
sorry trying to post link

Overview
As a left tackle, Rankin will struggle with edge speed and as a right tackle he may have issues as a run blocker handling the power he will face. While he offers tackle flexibility and may get an early look at right tackle, his best position might be at center where his instincts and intelligence will stand out. The further Rankin kicks inside the better he will be. He may be average as a tackle or guard, but he could become a good NFL starter if he gets his shot at center.
Strengths
  • Offers five position versatility and center might be his best spot as a pro
  • Feet are active and sudden in his sets and mirroring
  • Good initial get-off with kick slides
  • Disciplined enough to stay square in pass sets longer without opening too early
  • Explodes from upper body into his punch
  • Instinctive with eyes that don't panic
  • Doesn't overreact to early movement from twists and stunts
  • Stays focused on sneaky Petes looking to loop over the top or attack with a delayed blitz
  • Accelerates with loaded hands into down blocks
  • Lands with force creating early imbalance from defender
  • Takes good angles to his direct second level targets
  • Shows some ability to reset hands and scramble when early phase of block is off.
Weaknesses
  • Average slide quickness to meet edge speed
  • Plays with some ankle stiffness
  • Base narrows as slide progresses
  • Hands take rounded route into punch opening his frame
  • Hand placement runs wide and high
  • Struggles to latch and ride in pass pro with defenders displacing his hands
  • Lacks of firmness in outside hand and average slide quickness allows rushers access to his edge
  • Gives some ground to power
  • Comes off ball and lands with elevated pad level in run game
  • Loses leverage battles
  • Lacks initial lateral quickness
  • Unable to sustain as drive blocker
  • Inconsistent finisher losing command in the third phase of the block.

I know a portion of us are here casually for event sake ,but a few here are die hard.

I read scouting reports some but watch little tape. Some of these posters do their homework and it doesn't matter to them if it's draft day or January. We're fortunate to have a group like Beerlover, 76, mussop, and bad boy. (I know there's 1 or 2 more in that core group and I apologize if I left you out.) Anyway, your opinions mean more to me then the average poster. If your consensus is "It's a good pick" ,then It's a good goddamned pick. Thanks guys.

Yup, if the guys on here that are the real study guys are ok with a pick, then I am reasonably comfortable in what is happening.

I watched the video of Key vs. Rankins last year, and Rankins had his way with Key. I think the Texans try him at both Tackle spots. They need a swing Tackle, anyway.

There goes Justin Jones. Dominated at the Senior Bowl. Won 1 on 1's, every single rep.

Jayson Braddock projects Rankins as an all pro OG but likes his versatiity to play OT.

Wondering if Gaines aim, reflecting coaches input, is to revamp OL head to toe? Rankin doesn’t seem to be a LT but just look at who Patriots drafted in first round, Isaiah Wynn. But hey it’s OL so make it work.

Noteboom was a name I saw a lot. Are we happier with Rankin over him?

They are getting a lot of good athletes on the OL. Guys that can pull and move in space. Think we'll be running zone and spreading things out with Deshaun. Miller will finally be allowed to run outside!!!

I think most of discussion on Noteboom was between SteelB and me. He liked him better than I. I prefer Rankins over any OT still on board with Demby right there with him.

Surprised Ronnie Harrison is still available.

I honestly don't get the hype about him. If he didn't play at Bama I think more people would see his flaws and grade him in the 4th/5th round. He's really going to struggle against the NFL pass game.

TE is a possibility but it might be a little early.

Could go WR.

Could possibly take another OT but doubtful with Noteboom going off the board.
