2018 NFL Combine

If scouting counts, should be able to find quality throughout process into undrafted free agency. Problem is there are 31 other teams competing for same thing. So what separates those from winning and losing in this high stakes game? Is it brilliant vision from leadership, collaboration between scouting and coaching staffs, or some fate, blind luck with right draft filled with prospects that fill needs? Whatever it is, I’m sure it involves a lot of hard work, huge chunk of time and commitment to winning.

Then that's your man if he's there IMO if you're looking for a plug and play .
His reviews have been all over the place. Some say he has quick feet. Many others say, he is slow to move laterally. Some say, he is strong, but more say that that he weak run blocking and weaker pass blocking. I don't know that I would be breaking my neck to move up to get him

I think the Texans biggest moves this off-season hover right over the OL FA market. Texans need 2 bonafide high priced (going rate this year) starters who are better than just warm bodies. I'd add another veteran or 2 maybe if the price is right.

The draft picks this season would really benefit from a season as backups or on the PS where they could gain their NFL strength and get proper technique training before they have to try and start.

Or they could add Solder and Hubbard and fix TE/OG/RB/CB/S in the draft. You can draft athletes for those positions and if you get a couple or 3 starters then you've done a great job. Even if you miss athletes will help the dreadful ST's.

In the 6th/7th rd, picks should be made with ST's in mind.
Hubbard as RT? I'd prefer they fix OG in FA rather than rely on, at best, a 3rd round rookie to come in and start. Starting jobs need to be earned instead of given. Moving KJ to S would solve that problem pretty easily. Re-sign JJo and see if you can get a solid CB in FA. I'm looking at this draft as adding quality depth and getting some good ST players.

So last day for the Combine today with the D-backs and we are very likely drafting a corner so whose got a list of decent CBs likley to be on our Board
early in the 3rd round ?

Like Tony Brown, walk on Alabama, hope he flys under radar, 6-0 192 loose hips, good long speed ascending talent to my eye.

Hubbard has played both OG/OT, give me a OT over an OG, you can find OG's that can start early in the 3rd/4th rd. I want Gaine to sign 3 FA OL, preferably Hubbard/Pugh/Kline and draft another 2 OL in the 3rd rd. This way you have vet presence and competition amongst the draft picks/Davenport/Fuller. This would provide more depth than the Texans have ever had on their OL and the competition you are looking for. You may have to take a chance on a guy Harrison or Noteboom who have the ability to start early in their careers. Mack Brown still speaks highly of Harrison. Gotta protect Watson 1st and foremost.

If a TE like Andrews falls pick him in the 3rd too. Then take a talented but troubled guy like Holton Hill in the 4th and re-sign JoJo/Demps and the defense will start to look like the 2016 defense.

I get fans aren't used to the Texans org participating in FA/taking mild character issue guys in the draft. But because the roster is so thin talentwise, it's time to take some chances if the Texans want to get back to the top of the AFC South.

If you want what we've seen for the last decade then let them just keep on doing what they've been doing.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm all about being major players in FA this year, especially on the OL. I'm not big on rookies starting unless they earn the position in TC.

Totally agree.

That's why they need to bring in at least 2 preferably 3 FA OL.

There is going to be one of the rookies (Which is why I want 2 to be drafted in the 3rd/4th rd.) or Davenport/Fuller will need to start.

Davenport could have a big jump in his sophomore year. You talking about Kyle Fuller, the C?
Are there any potential RTs and RGs in FA that you like? I don't like Davenport moving to RT. Once you get passed Davenport, I don't see a functional; NFL tackle on the roster.
I could potentially see Davenport LT Allen LG Mancz C ??? RG ??? LT ???

I would hope Gaine would bring in Noteboom/Harrison etc... to compete at LT with Davenport and add 3 vets in FA so the competition will be fierce. Hoping Davenport is the future LT and not adding a LT to compete against Davenport would be very much like something Ricky would do. The draft is deep in OL and the Texans need to take full advantage of this.

what would Texans have to trade up to Gaine Lamar Jackson, best back-up QB plan ever! I think he could take RB snaps as well as slot routes @ WR, not to mention play action throw's. think outside the box

Can he block Lamar Houston or open a hole for Lamr Miller?

He probably rights his performance during the Sooners Pro Day, then he'll fly right back up the board but... if he doesn't, he'll tumble right into RD3. Remember, this is RD3 and in any other draft, the Texans would've already grabbed some higher end prospects in the first two rounds. If Brown tumbles into RD3, I'd roll the dice in all hopes that he rebounds when the pads go back on. If he performs like he did during his Sooner days, then the Texans could have the potential for a big steal.

Adam Schefter reports that Ohio State C Billy Price underwent successful surgery on his “incomplete pec tear” on Tuesday. Price is reportedly expected to be sidelined four months but should be ready for the start of training camp.

Like I posted before, trying to rehab this injury without surgery would have been short-sighted and stupid.

Texans met with:

-Braden Smith, tackle/guard, Auburn
-Frank Ragnow, center/guard, Arkansas
-Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan
-Donte Jackson, CB, LSU
-Jessie Bates, safety, Wake Forest

All of the players here met with the Texans at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, information I personally confirmed in Indianapolis.

3/4: The Lions, Texans and Patriots are interested in ILB Christian Sam. – Tony Pauline, DraftAnalyst.com

Sam weighed in at 6-1, 244. He’s viewed as a mid-day-three prospect, so those teams could target him in the fifth round. -Walter

Braden Smith dropping in ranking since combine. Like LT Brian O'Neil I think he is a game guy rather than drill. Both could be available in 3rd round and so could Rankins.

How much consideration does Brown (OK) get if he free-falls to RD3?

It depends on the team. There's reports of plenty of teams that have him completely off their board. Personally I've never been a fan and that was even before the Combine debacle. Too tall and feet too slow. His length made up for it in college but the pass rushers he will face every day in the NFL are well beyond what he faced in college.

Who's Tre Brown?
Tre is a soph cornerback for U of Ok that I had confused with Junior Marquis Brown. i figured Optim was asking about the OT but I wasn't clear on that.

To continue on Orlando I heard for first time today that he had numerous coaches yelling at him during the combine. The gist as I understand is he was lazy and seemed disinterested in instructions. This would be a serious concern if true for me.
