2017 NFL Draft Discussion

Really, really need to get that OL now with 57th pick.

Pretty much all options on the board. Hopefully there's not a run on one. I would love to grab in order: Forrest Lamp, Dion Dawkins, Cam Robinson or Taylor Moton. But then again if Wormley, Bowser or Josh Jones are still on the board... gosh tough to choose! We'll have a heck of a player at 57! Wouldn't be surprised to see them trade down and add picks.

If any of those options are left and they trade down I'd pull my hair out, if I had any.

Absolutely...I'd have no problems if the Texans traded up to get someone like Dawkins, or Robinson. Then we need to pick another O-lineman in the 4th round to give depth to the O-line. If we can do that, regardless of who else we get, this draft will be a success. 2018 will be the year we pay the bills, gonna be a boring draft. We should get some Comp. picks next year to help make up for what we lost.

Regarding the draft. Next years draft without picks in rounds 1-2
not trying to be obstinate but you have to look at total package not just next draft. If we were up against cap (we are not) and had no $ for free agency in 2018, I could agree. Unless Texans go stupid and offer Nuk more than they should we will have rollover from this season of approx $30 million to add to 2018's $68 million. I think I get your point (again looking only at losing top two picks) but that is like telling only a part of the story to support your POV.

So do we go BPA the rest of the draft or do we focus on making offense more complete to help out our young QBs?

You're grumpy because the two guys you wanted went #2 and #10.
O'Brien seems to be good with Watson.

The qbs I wanted went 2 and 10, sure, but the guys I wanted overall that we could've had for nothing went 25, 27, 28, 31, and 32. So a little grumpy, ok.

And OB seemed to be good with Hoyer and Mallett too. Eh.

But I'm not hating on Watson really either. I like the kid and the QB. Just all the circumstantial stuff that's frustrating is all.

the Texans mortgaged their ‘18 draft to solve a mess of their own creation. their solution? Draft a QB with a weak arm that has thrown 30 ints in the last two years. Why? Because he's a good person and has winning genes. It's not like this situation is new. We've had year's to plan and fix this mess. A good gm would of planned a year ahead and built up assets to go get a legit top of the first round talent QB. Rick Smith is a joke.

Hey I love Watson as a person. How could you not? Being a good person doesn't make you a good QB. Im a Texans fan no matter what so now I'm a big Watson fan. I'm not going to question this move anymore. This is it. I'm not going to pound my chest if Watson turns out to be a mistake but I am going to ***** more than texian and steelblue put together that Smith should be fired.

Now we have 5 picks in the next 142. Here's to hoping Smith doesn't reach and goes for the best talent.

Not a mock, but my guess at the players that go before the Texans pick @57:

DeShone Kizer – QB, Notre Dame
Dalvin Cook – RB, Florida State
Alvin Kamara - RB , Tennessee
Joe Mixon – RB, Oklahoma
D'Onta Foreman – RB, Texas
JuJu Smith-Schuster – WR, Southern California
Zay Jones - WR, East Carolina
Curtis Samuel - WR, Ohio State
Forrest Lamp - G, Western Kentucky
Dan Feeney – G, Indiana
Cam Robinson - T, Alabama
Dion Dawkins - T, Temple
Malik McDowell – DT, Michigan State
Chris Wormley – DE, Michigan
Jordan Willis – EDG, Kansas State
Tyus Bowser – EDG, Houston
Tarell Basham - EDG, Ohio
Carl Lawson - EDG, Auburn
Kevin King – CB, Washington
Quincy Wilson – CB, Florida
Chidobe Awuzie , CB - Colorado
Ahkello Witherspoon – CB, Colorado
Budda Baker – S, Washington
Josh Jones – S, North Carolina State

Still good OL, LB, and DBs left, I think.

We got BPA at a position of need with emphasis on the O-line. I'd even trade up in the 2nd to get Dion Dawkins, Cam Robinson, or Taylor Moton if necessary. Hopefully we've learned that lesson of feeding a young QB to the lions.

Round 4, Pick 23 (No. 130)

Round 4, Pick 30 (No. 137)

Round 4, Pick 35 (No. 142)

This according to si.com
And it was on another site to.

Why is this info so hard to find?
I'm seeing #137 belonging to the Colts from the Pats.

Hypothetical, Dion Dawkins-OT and Obi Melifonwu-SS are both still available at #57. What do you do?

2. Obi Meilifonwu-SS
3. BPA at OT

or

2. Dion Dawkins-OT
3. BPA at Safety

well for one thing Texans website doesn't list them. This is first I've seen of three in 4th. We had our own then picked up 142 in the Brock move.

7 round mock with Texans having only 131 & 142.

Walter's shows 130 & 142.

Mussop I respect you but your last sentence is a dig not necessary. Hope your Sports Illustrated is correct with three

OLB Jordan Willis is just as likely to be at 57 and I'd take him, go LT Antonio Garcia at 3.89.

Holden illuminor Seton Magnuson any of these guys would be a good right tackle at least one of them should be available by third fourth round.

Not a bad idea if you think Garcia will be available at #89 and can handle RT. I think there's a good chance he's gone before #89.
could be right and hard not to take Dawkins if he is there at 57; mocked him there for long time but Willis is a franchise type player & if plan is to play Clowney at DE then we will need a starting OLB as I don't think Washington or Scarlett will do it.

Anyone see Steve Smith argue with Charlie Casserly about starting a rookie QB ? Smith lit into Casserly . I saw most of it but not all , one of them brought up the Texans had a paper OL . So Smith asked Charlie why he would put his franchise QB behind a paper OL . Casserly said something and Smith said he has known Carr for a long time and Carr was damaged to when he took the snap he didn't look for recievers , he looked for the rush . Brian Billick said a veteran QB is not going to help groom their replacement . They may be civil but they will not speed up the process for their replacement .
