2015 free agents

ok, I'll get the obligatory "wrong forum" out of the way. That said, I think that this year we really need to look at FA hard. Hoping the cap exceeds expectations and gives us a little to play with

Virgil Green is the TE that I would sign in FA. He should be a reasonable FA signing. Went to Nevada with Kaepernick and has Gates/Julius Thomas ability. Green has the speed to stretch the defense between the hashes.

Aldrick Robinson has the speed to stretch a defense and can KR/PR.

Of course Cobb is the WR I want most of all. That unfortunately means Bye to AJ. (Not gonna happen.)

First and foremost 4-3 OLB Mark Herzlich NYG 28 WE SHOULD OF DRAFTED HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :kitten:

Then.

WR Hakeem Nicks IND 27
OG Mike Iupati
DT Dan Williams ARI 28
DT Terrence Cody BAL 27
DT Stephen Paea CHI 27
DT Ahtyba Rubin CLE 29
DT Nick Fairley DET 27
DT B.J. Raji GB 29
DT Roy Miller JAX 28
DT Jared Odrick MIA 28
DT Alan Branch NE 31

4-3 OLB Bruce Carter DAL 27

3-4 OLB Justin Houston KC 26
3-4 OLB Akeem Ayers NE 26
3-4 OLB Jason Worilds PIT 27
3-4 OLB Brian Orakpo WAS 29

ILB Rolando McClain DAL 26

There is a crazy amount of talent on that list. Some monster years from guys who are going to get paid as well. You have to wonder how the amount of elite talent in the FA market is going to affect the contracts being offered. Once the stars have got their mega-millions, there could be some very good value pickups who are proven starters who the teams that sign the big names then can't afford to squeeze in.

If andre does not come back I would like it if we take a look at

Smith sr

Wes Welker

Randall Cobb

Reggie Wayne

Darrius Heyward-Bey

Seyi Ajirotutu

just to replace a vet with a vet

That about the worst list of AJ "replacements" someone could come up with.

In other WR news the Cardinals apparently are not going to cut Fitzgerald even if they have to carry his $23.6 mil cap hit in 2015.

We’ve got rankings, breakdowns, team needs and some special features all coming up, but it starts here…

With the Pro Football Focus 2015 Free Agency Tracker.

We’ve got a rundown on all the available free agents with a breakdown of their 2014 snaps and player grades (though, note, grades aren’t ranking the free agent as they’re just a part of the evaluation process for what makes a desirable free agent).

I really wish you'd have used the quote feature. I was about to argue a point I really don't disagree with out of habit until I saw the link.

Free agent lists by position:

QB | RB | FB | TE | WR | OT | G | C | Specialists
S | CB | LB | Edge Defenders | Interior D-Line

Free agent lists by team:

ARZ | ATL | BAL | BUF | CAR | CHI | CIN | CLE | DAL | DEN | DET
GB | HOU | IND | JAX | KC | MIA | MIN | NE | NO | NYG | NYJ
OAK | PHI | PIT | STL | SD | SF | SEA | TB | TEN | WAS

- The overall ratings only tell part of the story and feature no weighting for specific facets of play...

- All ratings and snap counts are from the 2014 regular season only and ratings between players of two different positions are not meant to be compared.

- Sorting players by position and ranking won’t necessarily get you the same order we’ve used in some of our articles. That’s because we’ve done more to put the numbers into context. The grades require intelligence applied to them.

- This list of players consists only of players who ended the season on a roster in 2014 and are scheduled to become free agents when the 2015 league year begins, or players who have been released during the offseason; players that are exclusive rights free agents are not included.

- Player ages are as of September 1, 2015.

Not sure I understand the rankings on Picket he is -6.5? I'd go hard at Ray Bulaga OT GB

Grease had two poor game ratings, with the rest ~0. Occupy 2 OLs and it's a win but may not garner plus grades -- the LBs who are kept clean by the NT will get the plus grade opportunity.

Pickett I liked more than Powe this year by a good margin. But Pickett may not want to play -- he's over 200 games now. Would be nice to have him around to father-figure Nix, III... show him how to be a pro.

seems poor way to rate NT. Pickett was so excited to be in home town and his family was excited to be able to watch him play. I feel sure he will be back at least one more year.

lol, Newton is an 8.9?? Wow. I clearly don't have an eye for evaluating OTs.

I get super excited about these PFF FA Trackers every year, but we haven't had legit cap space to be active in that process since the signing of Manning and JJo.

I guess we made that big "splash" with Powe last year though. But he was one step from being on the streets.

I'm with you two. I'd like Pickett around for one more year to help groom Nix and Powe.

This is just another example of how PFF and stats are a joke, TJ Yates and Matt Hasselbeck are the top two FA QB's?

Do these guys even watch the games or do they take game stats and apply some made up formula to get their ratings?

Not encouraging to see KJ is the top rated FA CB, and the closest guy to him is 35yo. Someone may offer KJ ridiculous money.

Reading the page helps...

Here you will find all the available free agents as well as how many snaps they played in 2014 and their PFF grade for the year.

TJ had just 18 snaps in 2014. A lot of those guys had 0 snaps in 2014 so had a 0 rating. It's not a who's best -- just the latest only info on guys who don't usually play much, backup QBs. It's up to somebody else to project their futures.

Mallett had a -8.3 rating when he played with the torn pectoralis, which knocked his overall down. Many of us think he's the best of the group.

Did you notice that Demaris Johnson had a rating of -10.4 (the bottom of the WR list). And that's a sample size of 586 snaps.

Please tell me he won't be back.
:foottap:

OB sees something he likes in him... let's wait till we have a QB who can get past his first read before we get too hasty.

He was a stop gap until more talent could be added to the WR corps. This will be added in the draft/FA this offseason. IMHO

Damaris is fast and made some wow plays for us, but he drops a lot of passes.

PFF calculates their own drop rate based on whether each pass was catchable. Johnson's drop rate was amongst the worst in the league at 16.22%.

I'd think we'll target a SlotWR in the offseason.

What good is the occasional "big play" if he drops the chain moving plays. And goodness knows he's an absolute joke when it comes to blocking.

I would think our resident draftniks have spotted a few guys who are as fast, have better hands, and are bigger targets.

what cheap o F/A would yall like to bring in I looked at the NE f/a roster this year and it looks pitiful in terms of WR's since I would think that would be the pool we would pull from LOL

Probably no one. I'd resign KJ, Pickett, Lewis, Newton and offer a deal just short of Duane Brown's to GB's RT Bryan Baluaga. I'd also sign Peyton Manning if released by Denver. *see the thread in Texans forum and my response outlining how it can be done.

i agree, i'd prefer to see our efforts spent keeping our own. i think a right tackle can be found in the draft, so unless there's a flood of cheap linebackers i'd like us to focus more in house.

I'm very iffy on making an offer to KJ. I think someone will overpay for him and it shouldn't be us. I might make him a reasonable offer out of necessity rather than talent. I completely agree on trying to re-sign Pickett, Lewis, and Newton. If we re-sign Newton though then there's no need to make a run at Bulaga, no need to have one of them sitting on the bench while making FA money. I'll pass on Manning, I think he needs to realize the end is very near.

New (2015) free agent thread.

There are some interesting names out there. We need a SlotWR, edger rusher, DL, LB...

I'm still more inclined to keep and develop our own.

Didn't Tampa Bay "win" free agency last year? Yeah, mmmhmm.

we are still in cap hell its getting better but intill we purge these big money contracts and get are team young and cheap again well ya know

Tony Lippet michigan st., Rashad Greene Florida st, Tyler Lockett Kansas st all look the part and all are good returners to boot.

Walter Football Rumors

One team that could be major players in free agency are the Houston Texans. For years now, the Texans have been up against the cap and that caused them to be unable to sign some of their good home-grown talents like Glover Quin and Connor Barwin. Quin was one of the league leaders in interceptions, while Barwin produced a nice sack total for the Eagles.

Houston now enters the offseason with a lot of cap space and will probably clear up more. It sounds like linebacker Brian Cushing could be restructured in order to stay with the team. Also, tight end Garrett Graham could be candidate for the same thing. Don't be surprised if the Texans are active in signing a number of veterans this March.

Where did they get this information? The websites I'm looking at have us in bad shape with regards to the cap.

Obviously restructuring Cushing would help, same with Dre if that's a possibility, and you actually want to have those cap headaches years down the road, but they haven't factored in our 26 year old free agent CB. There is always a huge demand for young talented corners and KJ leads that class. I guess you can include Maxwell from Seattle and Culliver from 49ers or Moore from Cowboys, but I don't think they're as good personally. Most of the other real names in FA CBs are all 29+. Chris Harris obviously led that class, but was already resigned and proved that CBs are quite expensive every time I check in on them and their contracts.

That's not even looking at the other side of the field and seeing JJo and his cap number. Then you gotta assume we are gonna ink Mallett (the most expensive position in football generally...). I just don't agree with this major players business.

$10+ mil is not normally considered bad shape outside of Texans' land.

Remember 1st years on contracts typically carry much lower cap hits than the average so while KJ or a FA might end up with an $8 mil average per year contract the 1st could very well be a $3 mil hit.

True, well here's to hoping... I'm still a bit skeptical, but if everyone disagrees I am probably wrong.

As things stand I wouldn't call it "a lot of cap space" as the guy said but with a few moves it could lock up some folks and make it into a pretty fair chunk. I gave an example in the KJ thread of 2 year extensions for JJo and Myers creating $7 mil more. Kicking Graham to the curb where he will basically have the same production would free up another $2.5 mil. That's $19.5 mil before getting to Cushing and AJ.
