2014 NFL Draft Thread

probably, I've not wanted to be too negative and I hated the Kubiak Texans (I've been tweeting quite a bit during the season however)...I'm more on board with this new start. Especially today where we really see something tangibly different in the tone of the picks.

Yes, this is definitely different. Different is good.

My remaining QBs on the board:

Mettenberger - 3rd
Savage - 3rd/4th
Murray - 4th
Wenning - 4th/5th
McCarron - 4th/5th
Boyd - 5th
Smith - 5th/6th
Thomas - 5th/6th
Fales - 6th
Morris - 7th
Renner - 7th

Murray
Mettenberger
Mccarron
Boyd
Savage
Fales

BOB has repeatedly said that they will address the position and based on the list above there should be More than a few talented guys still available for us. I think BOB has wanted a developmental guy late in the draft all along. And since none of the top end prospects really stood out he felt comfy with taking a project late. Plus He knows how folks here are clamoring for a qb. So drafting a guy late takes the pressure off to start that prospect before he's ready.

this is where i'm at. i didnt think there was a major difference between the top rated quarterback and the 10th. one (or more) of these guys is going to be available at 4.35, if not later. savage was one that a few were interested in taking in the second round, to those i ask - how would you feel if we got him in the 4th? or the 2-3 for mettenberger and mccarron, what about getting them in the 5th? there are at least two on that list i'd rather have than bortles or manziel, and as late rounders will let us add better BPA talent as well as reduce the pressure of adding an early round quarterback.

I'd be fine with any of those guys and you almost have them in my order of preference. Love the draft so far.

No, Ozzie runs the show and I don't think there is a GM in the league who stays more true to his board than Ozzie.

The Kool Aid is flowing tonight.

The Texans trade pick #101 and pick #141 for a Tub of Lard. Fans of Girth are GIDDY! :)

Watch some of his 2012 games. Whole different story.

I love every pick we've made. We are getting great value and guys that sound like difference makers. I just really really don't want to go into the year with our current stable of qbs

I've got to give it to Smith/BOB, they've resisted taking a QB and filled the holes on the OL/DL/Pass Rusher. Plus added another tough guy at TE. The 1st true blocking TE since Bruener. Fiedo reminds me of Bruener/Heath Miller. Not bad for the 3rd rd.

This draft has added what the Texans have been missing for yrs, (Toughness) I like BOB's vision of what HIS team should be. (Strong in the trenches)

This has probably been mentioned but I'll pose the question again. Does anyone think the Texans drafting Clowney had anything to do with the logic behind the Titans picking Taylor Lewan?

The way I see it Roos is close to retirement and OT is a concern and so why not get the guy who put up a battle against Clowney if he's drafted in your division?

Any thoughts?

That is what I like, if we don't pick up a QB. The Texans have an identity that everyone in the league is going to know about, and also give the QBs on the roster a good confidence kick by not moving for another QB.

I think if one of McCarron/Murray/Met/Savage is there at 4-35 (Likey) that will be the pick. However if they add an ILB like Zumwalt or a nickel CB like Desir/ DE like Hart/McCullers I wouldn't have a problem with that.

They may go with what they have at QB in 2014 and trade up to get their QB in 2015. Which was what I have always been advocating.

I've been hoping for Murray, but TBH, I wouldn't be surprised at this point if they don't take a QB at all. I think fans have made up their minds on some things that coaches may disagree with. We shall see.

Honestly, I think they wanted Barr or Gilbert and when both were gone they just went with the top guy on their board. The pick was somewhat baffling because he will probably be a swing tackle this year. But he will more than likely be their LT in 2015. A line of Lewan, Levitre, Schwenke, Warmack, Oher is pretty strong.

I have no idea what they're doing. They put a higher value on a TE than they do on the QB or RB positions that we need to fill. I mean why take the TE before picking up a QB or RB???
because what they had to choose from with QBs. Rbs can be had later especially back ups.

According to Webster/Whisenhunt Lewan was best player on their board and when you a chance at a franchise LT you don't pass him up and said Lewan was to good to pass up.

I think the Texans went with Clowney because he was the safest pick in their mind.

I think they chose Clowney because they went from tied 4th in sacks 2012 to 29th IIRC. No deep theology just "see QB- disrupt QB!"

Or because he was the highest rated player in the draft .

I'm still hoping we end up with Shayne Skov, Smallwood, Barrow, or Christian Jones to be our ILB beside Cush. Then keep Reed at SAM with Merci backing up Clowney and coming in sometimes in passing situations.
Andrew Jackson is a tackling machine that closes the middle.

Bill has been known to take shots at his ex coaches...that just may be a dinger.

Then again, some Pats fans are peeved that they wasted 2 picks on guys that won't even play any meaningful snaps. One has a knee injury and the other will hold a clipboard for 4 years while getting the Mallett treatment.

That 3rd rounder for Mallett sure worked out for them....

Hell, Casserly got better value from Drew Henson.

I'm going to be on the road and miss todays action. But unless something REALLY surprising happens, I don't think we'll be lucky enough to get a 5th starter anyway. But who knows? I'm still hoping a QB worth drafting falls to us for the 4th round pick. If not, I'm already happy with this draft anyways.

Houston has 6 remaining picks, here are the needs I think need to be addressed with picks, UDFAs and FAs.

QB
FS
CB
DE
ILB
RB
WR Slot

The rest of these QBs are trash. Don't even waste the pick. Just build up the D Line and take a flyer RB like Storm Johnson. Just go 4-12 and get a high draft pick for a QB next year at this point.

Awww, did someone not get the QB you wanted?

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock 5m

Ryan Mallett #Pats / #Texans trade discussions have been on-going (despite tons of reports). Mallett is Houston's #1 VET target.

Why does this keep coming up? Why are the Texans so interested in Mullet? I don't see it. Perhaps someone can enlighten me on why we are so interested in Mullet when we already have a backup/starter/whatever in Fitzybeard?

I'm not sure. Mallet's claim to game was not having very high football IQ and consistently overthrowing people/ having his ball go high on crossing routes. I don't get it.
