2014 NFL Draft Thread

Can anyone tell me why we're so excited about Nix?
Commentators are saying he's got serious injury concerns, conditioning concerns and is lazy. Total non-factor at the end of games. Whats the attraction?

In 2012 he was a complete unstoppable force. He got a knee injury last year and missed a lot of the year so, it's a question of which guy you are getting.

Remember Te'o? Half his push for Heisman campaign was made possible by Nix and Tuitt.

He's a badass.

He's had some health issues. He's had some conditioning issues.

But with a little work, he could be an all-pro. There's a reason why almost everyone had a 1st round grade on this guy.

I love every pick we've made. We are getting great value and guys that sound like difference makers. I just really really don't want to go into the year with our current stable of qbs

Love to be a fly on the wall in the war room. If we do not draft a QB with our compensatory pick in the 4th tomorrow which is the 35th pick in that round, we will not have another go at it until the first pick in the 6th round. The Texans must think all the QB's really suck in this draft.

Likely kills the Mallett trade, right?

I'm really starting to think it never even existed.

I'm starting to think that OB is planning on going into 2014 with Fitz/Keenum/Yates at this rate.

This draft has a "You got a problem with that?" vibe to it where QB is concerned. I don't think they're worried about it. Wonder if we're going to find out later on that OB had to say that Case could be a winning starter to get the job?

Likely not going QB because none weigh 300 pounds. This has got to be the "biggest" haul we've ever drafted. Restraint industry in Houston must be minority owners

Or to play the optimistic devil's advocate, there is a QB that they think eveyone else has overlooked...

'm not trying to get ahead of myself but the Texans front-7 is all of a sudden one of the most talented in the NFL

I think they're going purely by board which is great unless your most pressing need is QB. You can't win without a QB in this league. I honestly wish we still had schaub. I think I could see 10 wind and a legit run with him bouncing back under new coaching

Vinny... you sound more optimistic than I have heard in quite some time. Are we going to be seeing more of you around these boards this season?

That is what I like, if we don't pick up a QB. The Texans have an identity that everyone in the league is going to know about, and also give the QBs on the roster a good confidence kick by not moving for another QB.

Makes me wish we had Schaub still here...

Seriously, though, the only QBs I wanted were Manziel early and Garoppolo later (would have been OK with Bridgewater at 2.1, but not earlier). We didn't really have a good shot the way things played out. gtexan is right about us not being in good shape without a QB, though. I guess this is a total rebuilding year, and we'll be having to go all out to get a QB next year.

I'm glad about Nix, but I am depressed about having only one pick left in the next 90. I think there's probably a lot of good value in that range that we'll be missing out on.

I bet we're about to start hearing how great they think our QBs are.

I have a hunch we are eying (eyeing?) Logan Thomas. I don't know why, just a hunch. And I am not overly thrilled with the idea, but I am damn happy with the picks we have made so far. Something's gotta give, and I am good with that being QB for now.

probably, I've not wanted to be too negative and I hated the Kubiak Texans (I've been tweeting quite a bit during the season however)...I'm more on board with this new start. Especially today where we really see something tangibly different in the tone of the picks.

In a way the Texans are building the blue print of NE championship years. Build a strong defense then run a conservative safe offense that dont take chance and turn over the ball. The question is can coach achieve this with the current stable of QBs?

The front of the front 7 is stout to say the least, but I'm still worried about the LB Corps.

mercy and Clowney with Brooks and Cushing inside is how I see it. Gotta add more to that in terms of depth but I see that starting unit right now.

I just see it as more conventional. We've been sold for years on crap like your NT doesn't have to be that big and that ship ain't shinola...stuff like that.

I'm still hoping we end up with Shayne Skov, Smallwood, Barrow, or Christian Jones to be our ILB beside Cush. Then keep Reed at SAM with Merci backing up Clowney and coming in sometimes in passing situations.

Preaching to the choir here.

Love to draft Logan Thomas.

That is going to be the question. Do we think that Fitz can protect the football well enough to not lose us games? This will be the major decider if this team is a playoff team or a top 10 draft pick.

I think it is possible with the offensive weapons available.

Murray
Mettenberger
Mccarron
Boyd
Savage
Fales

BOB has repeatedly said that they will address the position and based on the list above there should be More than a few talented guys still available for us. I think BOB has wanted a developmental guy late in the draft all along. And since none of the top end prospects really stood out he felt comfy with taking a project late. Plus He knows how folks here are clamoring for a qb. So drafting a guy late takes the pressure off to start that prospect before he's ready.

We'll get our QB next year. Considering the improvements made to the team so far, I can live with that.

this is where i'm at. i didnt think there was a major difference between the top rated quarterback and the 10th. one (or more) of these guys is going to be available at 4.35, if not later. savage was one that a few were interested in taking in the second round, to those i ask - how would you feel if we got him in the 4th? or the 2-3 for mettenberger and mccarron, what about getting them in the 5th? there are at least two on that list i'd rather have than bortles or manziel, and as late rounders will let us add better BPA talent as well as reduce the pressure of adding an early round quarterback.

My hunch is Savage. McCarron still available, then Zach, Murray. Logan is the physically most gifted.
