2014 NFL Draft Thread

Maybe we can field a no-QB team and just have the center control the ball.
Ugh...

I think this is a great pick and we obviously need help in the trenches but you aren't going anywhere with Fitz. I'm ready to gamble. We need a QB. Please.

There is so little difference in the QB's left there is no reason to reach for one now. Just because you take one now isn't going to make him better than he is. We just drafted the OG in the entire draft. He should be a really good starter for many many years. This was the right move.

better to take a solid starter at a need position than a project QB when there will be just as good of QBs as late as the 5th round.

What now? Let me tell you what now. They gonna call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' linemen, who'll go to work on the defenses here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. You hear them comin' AFC South? They ain't through with you by a damn sight. They gonna get medieval on your ass.

Oh, sorry ... flashback movie quotes.

Love this post. Will rep later.

I didn't expect that pick with the Browns...
Really expected WR.

I wanted the big NT, but this is definitely a need. Happy we didn't reach for a QB.

I kinda like the thought of Schaub teaching Carr... I´ll gladly eat crow if Carr works out, I really can`t see it.

Love our pick though. I guess we`ll be a running team this season and try to get our QB next season...

Derek Carr: 30.9% comp when under duress, lowest of any top 10 QB prospect. Raiders QBs were pressured at the 4th-highest pct #OAKpick

So Matt Schaub replaced David Carr in HOU. Now David Carr's little brother will replace Matt Schaub in OAK. Circle of life, NFL-style.

Love this kid, top OG better than Zach Martin (as a LG) that's solid 1st rd. value & really addresses OL in a big way.

I'm thinking both Nix & Tuitt medical might be reason for slide.

I was hoping for trade down's to add picks, but it's obvious that the Texans put a premium on their picks. It appears they are sticking to their board and I like them building the trenches. Hopefully they can now get that other DE or NT

I think they missed out on their QB and are just doing a good job going with the BPA at need positions. And you can never go wrong doing that either, most especially with linemen.

I didn't think about OL but does make sense.

We may go after Jones from Penn State in 3rd rd. If the Mallett talk goes well with NE trade (for next year's 3rd). If not, QB like Tom Savage and other available QBs?

Is McGloin now on our radar?

Ha ha Vinny, This!

Like someone said on Twitter: The Jags got a guy with accuracy issues to throw to a guy with hands issues.

Haha - thats pretty funny.

The only downside is the one play out of 6 that does connect is going to be dynamite.

Getting Lee with the 39th pick is a great pickup.

Not dogging this pick, I just wish we had filled the QB spot.

Building the trenches is smart. .... if it actually works.
How many early round trenchers have we picked recently?

In '04 we drafted Babin in the 1st
In '05 we drafted TJ in the 1st
In '06 we drafted Williams in the 1st and Spencer and Winston in the 3rd
In '07 we drafted Okoye in the 1st
In '08 we drafted Brown in the 1st
In '09 we drafted Barwin in the 2nd and Caldwell in the 3rd
In 2010 we drafted Mitchell in the 3rd
In 2011 we drafted Watt in the 1st
In 2012 we drafted Brooks in the 3rd
In 2013 we drafted Williams in the 3rd

That's a lot invested in 8 starters (out of 22)

Interesting tidbit... how good was Seattle's offensive line last season?
Who were the probowl players?

Now we have D Brown (1st rounder) Xavier (2nd rounder) Chris Myers (all pro) Brandon Brooks (3rd rounder) and Williams? (3rd rounder)

Has any team had this much invested in the front five? We have so many 'talented' players why do we need to keep spending such high picks? Shouldn't we have a few pro bowl players and be able to fill the rest of the holes with role player guys? What scheme are we running that we need top 3 round picks or all pros at every position to be successful?

You just wished we'd filled the QB spot with a Matt Leinart or a Vince Young? If the QBs in a class aren't the ones you want, then you don't pick them.

Of course not, but that's a ridiculous question. Unless you know all the guys on the board are going to be busts, I just don't see how you keep passing on them.

Here's my thoughts:
You trade away Matt Schaub
You now have a big hole at starting QB
You either go hard after a trade or try and sign someone OR you focus on drafting a QB

Why was Fitz our big target if we didn't like any of the top QB prospects? Just poor planning

Who should we have gotten???

You trade away Schaub because he's broken and you don't want him around.
You make a trade for Fitz because you think you can win some games with him in the pinch.

You pass on the QBs at the top of the draft... because you don't think they're as good as the Media thinks they are. You've got a guy that you're pretty sure is going to be there for you later, and so you work your board.

You don't overdraft someone you think is going to be not good.
