2013 NFL Kickoff -- Ravens@Broncos

Up 18 pts in the 4th and they still throwing it to score. Now that's a team that is reaching out to grab a victory by the neck instead of protecting it.

Here is the difference between good coaches and great coaches, Kubiak would of called the dogs off once we had a 14 point lead. Wish Kubes was more like fox, and had the mentality "if you dont want us to score than stop us" instead of "If you want to catch up go ahead, cause we're on cruise control"

Ummm, we beat this same Ravens team by 30 last year.

Umm no this is not the same ravens team we beat by 30. This team has lost quite a bit of quality players since then, the team we beat by 30 last season was way better.

What does that have to do with how we put our foot on their neck? For the record Parcells was a guy who never liked to run the score up either. He was inducted in the HOF this year. Its all about getting wins.

And this is still the same Ravens team unless they got a new franchise there I don't know about.

Who cares how we score? Nebraska used to beat people by 60 points running the ball! Why chuck the ball around to create opportunities for the other team when we're up big?

MY whole point was that fox is still trying to score, we are running the ball to run out the clock, just because we try to run out the clock and score on a rushing play dont mean kubiak isnt over conservative.

3rd and long in the 4th up by 20+ and the broncos throw it, 3rd and long with us in the 4th with a 7 point lead and we run a draw. Big difference man.

Did you see the Fox that coached at Carolina? Maybe he actually has a QB he can trust. Fox is a conservative coach if you couldn't tell by how he handled the playoff game last year in the playoffs. You may want to pick a better example.

My example is every game the last 6 seasons that we have had a lead in, plenty of examples out there.

dude really, Manning just threw on 2nd and 8, still throwing with a big big lead, we would not. Pretty simple.

Do you not understand that I mentioned that he has freaking Peyton Manning and we have Matt Schaub? He didn't do that with Delhomme or any other QB he had when he was a head coach at Carolina. He ran the ball and and played good defense. When you have a QB that you can trust to not turn the ball over when you have a lead it makes a difference. Not only that but Peyton understands taking whats given and getting what he can with short passes and keeping the clock moving. Schaub isn't Manning in that regard. Fox is just as conservative if not more conservative than Kubiak. He just has this great guy at the wheel who's an all time great right now.

Well if Kubiak cant trust Schaub then they should not of resigned him to a long term contract. But they did so either they are retarded, or Schaub has some secret pictures of kubiak and rick smith they dont want anyone to know about.

Kubiak would have gone shell mode, about 3rd quarter.. and made the game close and interesting.. When you have your victims down, keep kicking them till the game is over..

This is my biggest grief about Kubiak, he coaches with a backup QB's mentality.

Or maybe, just maybe Schaub is better than anyone else the Texans could have gotten and he's the best option. Just because he doesn't completely trust him doesn't mean they're supposed to replace him. Schaub gives the Texans the best chance to win, knows the offense, and does good things early in games, but he's been known to make mistakes late in games. So if you have a big lead and you have 2 elite backs that can drain the clock why exactly would you continue to put the ball in the air. I guarantee you the Broncos would much rather pound the crap out of the Ravens running the ball but they don't have the backs right now to do that. Kubiak as the coordinator would have a nice mix when he was blowing teams away with Elway at the helm running the ball and passing the ball. Do you know what he had there though? A freaking HOF QB! You win the game however you can.

Haha! How great is this guy Manning. Up big and 3rd & long under 2 minutes the dude threw the ball for a first down. The trust this guy command is why he is going in the HOF. Wish we had a chance to sign him. Oh wait....we did.

Ummmm yeah thanks to our running game, we werent chunking it all over the place even in the 3rd quarter.

Provided a link without reading it huh?...

dude really, Manning just threw on 2nd and 8, still throwing with a big big lead, we would not. Pretty simple.

...because your link disproves this statement. Up by 19 in the 3rd Schaub starts the 80 yd TD drive (i.e. on 1st down) with a pass, follows it up on a 2nd and 12 with a 35 yd pass and gets 65 of 80 yds through the air.

Or we can look at the 1st Titans game 3rd qtr up 21-7: 75 yds 4 passes 3 runs including a 28 yd TD pass on 3rd and 5 inside FG range.

Or there is the Denver game 3rd qtr up 24-11 on our 28. 72 passing yds for a TD - 1 rush for no gain.

I bet the Broncos wish they had an Arian Foster & the ability to run out the clock on January 12th.

Come January 2014, they'll probably find themselves in the same situation. That 4th qtr would have been a good time to work on their run game.

The only reason the game gets close & interesting is because our run game wasn't what it was in 2011. Go back & look at some of the scores from 2011, up to the Tampa Bay game (where Schaub got hurt)... we beat the Bucs by 28 points, the Browns by 18, the Titans by 34, Indy by 27.

Why would he go into a shell against some teams, but blow out others? Just because he doesn't throw the ball doesn't mean he doesn't want to score.

I think practice is for working on the run game. I know there's no better practice than a real opponent but I just think that when things are clicking you stay with it. Besides, no way Peyton gives the ball away like that in the 4th. All the top tier guys are killers out on the field and don't want to just give the ball away. Guys like Manning and Brady step on that field and own it.

I'm sure every team that passed on the opportunity to sign Manning is giving themselves an old fashioned punch to the face tonight. Ugh...

Are you trying to actually defend the Kubiak doesn't go into Conserviak mode when he's up on a lead? Come on we've been watching this guy coach for years, he's even admitted he plays the odds... You can't honestly defend that TC...

I don't think conservative is the right word. He's still trying to score, he just doesn't want to give the ball to the other team anytime soon. Taking a chance & not getting a first down is just as risky as trying to throw the ball downfield.

Bronco's looked very good but I'm not incredibly worried about them. They're a challenge but they won't keep up that pace all year long and frankly they were at home in front of a prime-time super-psyched crowd wailing away on a Ravens team that's a shell of itself.

I think we'll be able to deal with them. It will be tough but that 7TD game was an aberration not a peek at things to come.

Lol @ people trying to work the Texans into this whole thing. I may not have the energy to argue against the retarded arguments this year.

The only thing they don't have is a consistent running game, or maybe a running game at all. The amount and quality of weapons Manning has at his disposal is frightening and that defense looks like it's going to really get after QBs this year.

The Broncos have a HOF QB that tossed for 7 TDs, against a better than average defense.

As far as the running game goes, its the 2013 NFL. Its probably less important than the kicking game at this point.

I didn't see much of a running game either and I just see the Texans playing keep-away from Manning like always. Lots of weapons though. Can't argue with that. I'm really looking forward to the game with Denver. It's got the potential to be epic.

Disagree on the running game and I don't know that I'd call the Ravens defense necessarily better than average in week one of this season. So many changes have taken place with that group that I think they're a mess right now. Once the Ravens lost Jones and Oher their offense went into the crapper. When the offense can't sustain drives the defense gets tired and stuff like 49 points happens.

I'm just not placing a lot of stock in a week one beatdown. At least not until I see the Bronco's rip up a few more teams like that.

All I'm thinking is why is your franchise QB still in the game against a frustrated defense who might be looking to release some of it against him? Why wouldn't you be giving your backup some some game time?

I hope Kubiak would be smarter than that.

Kubiak keeps Schaub in and has said he thinks its important to do so. But really, not many NFL teams pull their starting QB in situations like that.

Manning was in a safe mode, not a "conservative" mode. A 3 step drop and throw or lay down and keep the clock running if no recievers are open. It's a virtually impossible play for a "smart" QB to get injure on. That's who John Fox sees on the field, a guy who he can trust to make smart decision.

Does it really matter? They didn't get any farther than we did in the play-offs. They were one & done.

You're right but it doesn't make it less stupid. Injury aside, why not get your backup some game time?

Would like to know why Kubiak says its important for the starter to be in there during garbage time. I can't fathom what the logic would be.

Think folks are living on the past too much and not realizing the current times. That defense is nothing but average. It was that last year. Many seem to forget all the talk about how washed up that defense was last year and no longer able to carry a team. So how in the world is it going to be better than last year with so many changes in the first week of the season?

Statistically that defense was 17th in the league last year which is below average. If you even go by PFF they had them #22 in overall defense. So yeah, that defense is not above average. Could end up that way if they begin to gel and work together but acting as if that was not a rather piss poor defense is a stretch.

Now that's not to take anything away from Peyton because he definitely played an amazing game and killed it for one of my fantasy teams (thanks Peyton!) but at the same time let's not act like that was one amazing defensive unit. This isn't the Ravens D from the past.

Does it really matter? They didn't get any farther than we did in the play-offs. They were one & done.

They played better in the play offs than we did. They didn't get blown out a second time by a team that just blew them out a few weeks before. They were one and done......with a bye.....that was their firs year gerting used to manning...that was their first year with that style of offense.

All that said, none of that matters for this year. Texans have a chance to prove all the doubters (I'm one) wrong. They have a chance to show us doubters that there's not something functionally wrong with the way the team is built and the mindset of the team.

They have a chance to show that they've learned from last year and have gotten better.

No need for anyone to get bent, defensive, aggressive or irritated on either side. We should all be anxiously awaiting the start of the season. These guys are about to tell us all we need to know.

Can't lie, the game last night has me a little shook about Denver.

The very thought of McCain being singled up on Welker ..................:hide: Dude couldn't even hold ancient, slow ass Brandon Stokley last year...

We're gonna have to be in Manning's grill all game..
