2012 NFL Draft Day 3: Rounds 4-7

Appears to be a right tackle only with questionable motor. Why do we need a tackle over a guard? rather have

Zebrie Sanders:Would grade highly as an OG prospect per cbssports.com

Would rather have Senio Kelemete OG Washington or Brandon Washington OG Miami (OT) if we are going to go G

Center in college, center in the pros. A bit high for a smaller player but he certainly latches on. Loves to latch on with strong hands, control, and mirror while sitting back in stance. Really slow when getting to second level on screens, still he latches on there to prevent from overrunning. Feet are slow in the pocket as well, why if he doesn't latch on with control he loses frequently. Don't see a real one plant anchor, gives more ground, but does use leverage to redirect and take to ground. Loses balance, overextends if misses on contact. If he loses leverage, DT has his way on choosing inside or outside lane. Reaction timing is slower when facing delayed blitzes.

Someone to groom behind Myers...
possibly convert to G
...makes sense.

Edit:
What he brings: Jones is a four-year starter who doesn't excel in any one area, but he's a tough competitor who almost always finds a way to win.
How he fits: The right side of this OL need to be rebuilt and Jones fits nicely in their zone-blocking system. They did resign OC Chris Meyers, so Jones will probably be a swing guy backing up the OC and OG positions.

Ben Jones seems to be a solid value at this point. I had him as the 10th best rated player still available at the time of the pick. Here's where some other sites had him:
CBS: 106th overall
NFLcom: 83 overall
Sports Illustrated: 101 overall
Scout.com:somewhere between 50 and 90 overall
NationalFootballPost.com: 42 overall
NFL DraftCountdown.com: 91 overall

If they liked him, it seems they picked him at about the right point in the draft.

Yep, can't hate it. I dont know if he has future starter ability, but he should make for an excellent backup/spot starter.

Absolutely satisfied with this pick.
Solid pick for a pure center who called the line plays at Georgia. I'd have preferred Phillip Blake.

Does it seem like there are more names than normal falling this year?

Not really. This happens every year.

And it's not because guys are "falling", it's because we're all basing our evaluations of these guys on either what we've seen of them or on other people's mocks. Our "estimation" of who's good and who's bad doesn't match (obviously) with the professionals.

This is why I think it's wrong to claim a guy was a reach or get ticked off about picking someone because we don't have all the evaluations on these guys. We're liking or disliking picks on faulty information about what their perceived values are.

I would've preferred a OT or Even a WR, but I am Fine with more o-line depth. now lets get us an NT and a WR with the next two Picks...

surely thats O-line down now. no OT.

Probably.

I said before the draft that I thought that the Texans might be perfectly happy with their tackle situation because of the development of Derek Newton along with Rashad Butler.

Brooks is big enough to stick in at the RT, although I don't think he'd be good enough in pass pro.

That makes sense. Thanks! I haven't followed the draft this closely before so I'm just trying to figure out how normal it all is.
