2011 TexansTalk Member Mock Draft (FULL)

Are we going to use this as a discussion thread and post selections in the other one?

As for the Fairley pick, he dominated in the BCS title game so it makes since to get a guy that can single-handily hold his own and make plays. Question is: what scheme do the Panthers run and how will Fairley fit into it?

They ran the 4-3 last year, but with Rivera taking over, I think they will be switching to the 3-4. If not this year, then next.

Rivera ran a 4-3 cover 2 in Chicago and a 3-4 in San Diego. So who knows what kinda defense he will run in Carolina.

This is a yr that I would want to pay 1st pick $$$$ to any player in this draft.

Fairley is a good player though.

Since the Panthers missed the easy slam dunk....

With the 2nd selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos Select:

Da'quan Bowers - DE - Clemson - He fills one of the numerous glaring holes in the Denver defense.

...and he's already used to wearing orange!

This draft is hard because there is not great #1 prospect. I dont know maybe its just me but I really like Darreus out of Alabama maybe even a bit more then Fairley but its hard to tell.

The thing that scares me with the Texans is that (IMHO) there are only about 7 guys that are almost no-miss picks. Picking at 11 gets into the second echelon and I'm not sure how bad our F.O. may whiff.

Remember we only need 4 offensive guys to go before us to be able to get one of the 7 no-miss defensive prospects. Cam Newton had a poor combine but has the intangibles and swagger to lead a team. It only takes one team to like him and I could easily see one of the Bills, Titans, Redskins and even possibly the Panthers reach on him. I do not see the 49ers because i do not think he fits the offense. Blaine Gabbart had a pretty good combine and if he lights up his pro day he will defiantly go before 11. Julio Jones had an amazing combine posting a 4.39 40 great vert and broad jump all with a fractured foot. I could easily see the Redskins taking him to replace Santana, and I think we all agree the A.J. Green will be picked before us. That leaves one of the top 7 D prospects falling to us whether its Amukamara, Quinn, Miller or anyone else.

On da clock

BUFFALO BILLS - TexansSeminole

CINCINATTI BENGALS - Shaft75

ARIZONA CARDINALS - Wolf6151

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Dutchrudder

I'm hoping the Texans will luck out and have 2 QBs, 2 WRs and 1 OT taken before they pick. 5 offense, 5 defense picks in the top 10, leaving them no choice but to go defense at #11 :D

I'm feeling Dareus as a really solid investment.

I would not be surprised if he has a better career than Fairley.

Ditto... He's one of my favorites in this draft. I'd rather him than Fairley. There's probably about 10 teams in front of us that would love to select him. lol

No great surprise with the #1 pick, will be interesting to see how he pans out in the long run. Dude is no Suh.

I don't think there is one STAND OUT player in the draft that has to go first.

I know I'm in the minority on this one but I have had Patrick Peterson on top of my draft board for over a year.

I know he is a CB and nobody takes a CB at #1 but I would take him.

I think he and A.J. Green are easily the top two in this draft class. And that's no knock on the other guys. I have Dareus, Bowers, and Fairley rated really high too.

Blaine Gabbert.... you MUST pick Blaine Gabbert.

Newton has BUST written all over him!!! Do not draft him, you do not want him.

Gabbert, Gabbert, Gabbert

I wonder if I can do this for another 11 picks.....

With the 4th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cincinatti Bengals select...

No surprise here... Get rid of the mouth and bring in Green.

This would be a very interesting scenario for the Cardinals. Do they go with a QB like Gabbert? Do they take a pass rusher like Von Miller? Or do they take Patrick Peterson, arguably the best player in the draft? They'd have an excellent excellent secondary if they went with Peterson... and then address pass rush in the top of the 2nd? Will be fun to watch.

I think that they would be NUTS to go with a QB here.

They are a team that can conceivably win the NFC West with a competent QB, rather get a veteran in and take another shot at getting far in the playoffs.

Peterson would be my pick. He's my # 1 rated player in this draft.

In this scenario the Texans should be on the phone offering a 2011 1st and 3rd. Plus a 2012 2nd. It's a small price to pay to get the best player in the draft. After watching last yrs secondary they should also sign a vet FA.

Ike Taylor, Peterson, Quin, Pick (Lefeged) and Jackson as the nickle would be a major upgrade. No more of suffering thru the McCain /Molden/Wilson/Pollards of the world. When having to face the Mannings of the world.

What about a pass rush? Even great corners are exposed on an island for too long. Especially since the league adopted the no touchy the wr rule. I say sit back and see how long Von lasts. With Dareus off the board, I think we definitely target DE or OLB hybrids. Von/Quinn/Jordan/Watt/Ayers.

With the 5th pick the Arizona Cardinals select Von Miller-OLB from Texas A&M.

I value talent over need and as I stated Peterson is ranked #1 on my board. There are very few guys in the history of the NFL that have run a 4.32 at 220 LBS. Plus Peterson is a football player that runs fast. He's not just a track guy.

Pass rusher is also a need. But that need could be filled by another guy I like alot Brooks Reed in rd.2 or Dontay Moch/Sam Acho in rd.3

This is a good draft for 3-4 rush OLB's.

Now that Miller is gone. Cleveland would make the perfect partner to trade up with.

They're going to be looking at J.Jones or a DE like Watt/Jordan/Quinn. One of them should be there at 11.

Yep, I was hoping one of the Top 4 picks so far would drop to me at #6, but all were taken. I'm going with Quinn for the Browns, but if trades were allowed I would definitely prefer to trade back. None of the top talent left fills a need.

Edit: Several of the DE's are great, and the Browns have a need there, I just think one could be had at spots 10-15 instead.

With the 6th pick in the 2011 TexansTalk Ridiculously Long Mock Draft, Dutchrudder representing the Cleveland Browns selects....

Robert Quinn DE from UNC!

robert-quinn.jpg

Robert Quinn, DE/OLB, North Carolina (Junior)
Height: 6’5″
Weight: 260
Projection: 1st Round

Strengths:
Incredible burst and athleticism – Quick off the snap – Very productive as a sophomore – Decent run stopper – Sheds blockers well – 4.5 speed is elite for a DE/OLB.

Weaknesses:
Needs to add some bulk to play DE, or work on coverage as OLB – Prior benign brain tumor could cause concern – Not very diverse in rush moves, could add a bull-rush – Runs himself out of the play on occasion – Not a lot of production vs. elite competition – Will not play in 2010.

The Browns need a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball, and we have very little depth at DE. Transitioning to the 4-3 will also put a strain on the team, so we will begin building from the outside of the D-line inwards!

Peterson is the first player slipping further than I thought he would. I would hate if he became a Titan...

No joke. Supposedly he is the #1 player on Dallas' draft board. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Jerry jumped 1 spot to make sure he snagged his guy. It wouldn't take much for them to do that...

Now that I say that, it obviously depends how much San Fran loves the guy or the other prospects. If Gabbert is deemed a franchise QB for them, they aren't moving an inch. If they love Peterson or another prospect, the may stand pat. With only Tennessee between them (or another team trading up with Tenn), you'd think SF could move down and still get who they covet but may not risk it.

I'd rather Dallas have Peterson than Tennessee!

had to take peterson here # 1 on my big board and not to fond of gabbert. if peterson, fairley and dareus were all gone, probably would have went julio jones. i think alex smith will be resigned and play well in harbaugh's west coast offense.

Well, I'm sure the Browns would like to have Peterson, but they picked Joe Haden last year, and I don't think they need another 1st round CB. Too many needs with the front 7 to go CB.

The Titans pick .... Julio Jones, WR, Alabama .

I think he's the next AJ and a better player than Prince .

ps . Remember Munch firing Mike H for being to conservative .
