2011 Small School Prospects

I read that Andre Harris ran a 4.50/4.53 at Air Force pro day and improved his vert from 35.5 to 36 had a 9'11 broad 4.24 Short Shuttle and he weighed in at 223lbs

I think there might be another Small School Sleeper in the works...Baldwin-Wallace DE 10 KEITH DARBUT (6041, 229) pro day numbers...he benched 26 reps, ran a 4.38 40-yard dash, 1.42 10-yard, 38-inch vertical, 10'6 broad jump, 4.45 short shuttle, and 7.28 3-cone.

He was a first-team All-OAC selection and named defensive lineman of the year in the OAC in 2010. His 43 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and 40-yard touchdown reception.

Yeah, I saw that too. However, he is a rather unimpressive football player. Only 21 career sacks at the DIII level, 26.5 TFL. Those are not great numbers. Will I rank him when my next edition comes out? Maybe. I am thinking about expanding to top 15 per position, so there is a shot. His raw athleticism is something, but that does not make him a real player. I need more film before I can rank him in good conscience. FA at best, I think.

The same site listed above (albeit, different article) reports a 4.62 40 and 21 reps.

That is where I got the info...... The numbers on there I think are for Andre Harris at his Northern Colorado Pro Day...... I read on a different site that he improved all his numbers at Air Force Pro Day......

But there is playing speed versus shorts speed, and the 4.6 time is much closer to his playing speed.

Now, on a side note, is their any interest in my annual top 10 positional rankings this year? I need to know so I can budget my time to get them done (busy week at school coming up). The earliest I should be able to get them done is by Monday, but I would do it if there is ample interest.

I always enjoy your draft research/projections. I for one am interested. :)
 
I've always appreciated the works you guys put out; I just don't have enough time to dig deep into them to really enjoy it.
 
Alright, I will go ahead and put the finishing touches on them and post as soon as I can. I plan on staying up pretty much all night doing homework (it is quieter at night), so I am going to see if I can work for the next 4 hours on the rankings and crank them out.
 
2011 Small School Prospects- Final Edition

Thank you all in the interest in the small school rankings. By now, you should all know the drill, but I will give a brief rundown.

I define small school prospects as players who did not play FCS. This includes players from FBS (formerly D1AA), DII, DIII and NAIA players. Somewhere around 20 small school players get drafted each year, with another 30-50 getting UDFA and camp tryout offers. So this weekend if you hear a name you are unfamiliar with, I hope that you can find him here, and get a rough idea of his ability and potential. As always, I am happy to discuss my rankings and individual prospects (including those that just missed the cut, and are therefore not found in the list). It should be noted that the heights and weights are from either NFLDRAFTSCOUT or JBSCOUTING, as I have found them to be more trustworthy that the numbers given by colleges. However, the rankings are completely and totally my own, formed from hours of film, reading player reviews, and talking with other draftniks such as yourselves.

Also, these rankings are NOT how I think NFL teams are going to draft. Some players don’t have the measurables that scouts love, but the game tape in stats show a true football player. Other players have the sick measurables, but lack the game tape for me to feel comfortable ranking highly.

I agree, those guys are the most likely to get draft. There seems to be an average of just over 20 small school guys drafted a year. This year is pretty strong at some positions, so I think we will see north of 25 drafted.
