2011 NFL Combine

Wow, looking at that list of 40-times. If you run slower than Jerell Power and weigh significantly less than he does you must be slow!

Jeramey Beal ran an awful 40-time as well... :smiliepalm:

I've had Houston rated in my top 20 overall since the end of the season. I know me and only a handful of others have been throwing his name around for a while now about him being a target in the first.

I don't put too much stock into the testing at the combine. You can pretty much guess how most of these guys are gonna test out anyway if you see enough tape on them.

It's the small school guys that really benefit from that stuff, imo. You don't get to see that much on them so you need to gauge their athletic ability.

Outside of the interviews and the drills, the combine doesn't really do much for me.

I think he passed Quin and Smith as an olb prospect . On that note so did Kerrigan .
There's a lot to this, because some guys like Aldon Smith and Robert Quinn have been getting a lot of hype in part because they are supposed to be physical/athletic freaks. Especially Quinn who has been suggested by some as the top prospect in the Draft. OK then others like Huston and Kerrigan come to the Combine and do as well as them. Hey it's kinda an equalizer and puts everybody closer to the same ratings.

Wow...Casserly said Julio Jones completed his combine workout with a fracture in his foot that will need a screw to be put in place. We don't need offense in the 1st but if the Texans drafted him at 11 thinking he is going to be a beast and would provide the greatest reward, I would be OK with that pick.

Which means he doesn't have a fractured foot. I don't believe anything Casserly says. He has to be wrong.

Other outlets including ESPN has picked up on the story.

More recently, we learn that Jones had a fracture in his foot, which was discovered at the NFL combine, when he blazed away to a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash on Sunday and put on a show in all the other drills. His 11-3 broad jump was two inches away from the combine record.

He weighed in at 220 pounds, too, so it's not like we're talking about a 185-pound guy doing this.

And to do it at less than 100 percent only reinforces what a warrior this guy truly is.

According to those in Jones' camp, the fracture isn't a serious one and was more of a crack that showed up on the scan. It's possibily an injury he played with all or most of the season in 2010.

But, then, Jones' tolerance for pain is legendary. As a freshman, he played through painful wrist and shoulder injuries and then underwent three different surgeries following the season, including one for a sports hernia. A knee problem plagued him as a sophomore and cut into his production the first half of the season, but it was Jones who made one of the plays of the year (a 73-yard touchdown against LSU on a wide receiver screen) in the Crimson Tide's run to the 2009 national championship.

Jones will probably need surgery for this latest injury, to go ahead and get it cleaned up. But he's already run a 4.39 with the injury. So being on the shelf for the next month or two while he recovers shouldn't be much of an issue. Plus, Jones recovers quicker than most mortals.
