2010 Super Bowl vote Thu Oct 6

I believe Houston will show the world how great we host the BIGGEST game-Ever! The last time We hosted, The Pats & The Cats played in front of 70,000+ Richest fans here at Reliant. We could'nt even get in. If the NFL awards H-Town Super Bowl XLIV, count me in, I'm ready! Atlantans won't have a chance, neither does Miami. That city will host Super Bowl XLI next season. Try to make sure this is a family event, Janet & Justin, don't bother to show up.

I remember Oct 6, 1999 very very well! A day of surprise and awe! I couldn't believe any man could, or would, pay 700 million bucks for a football franchise, and I was struck with that "awe" feeling of WOW we really are gonna have football back in Houston! A lot of emotions went through my head that day! Now, 6 years later, and as we start our 4th season, YES guys, we are only 4 years old as a team, I feel nothing but proud, that the NFL was smart enough to award us a team, and that Bob McNair not only had the money, but the smarts and the desire to make our team one of the best in the league. We are far from reaching that goal, but, I have no doubt that he will do whatever he has to do to get us there. As the old saying goes, "Rome was not built in a day," well, a great football franchise has NEVER been built in four years. Our owner will do what he has to do. Maybe not in the time frame WE want it done, but, he will not let a 700million buck investment go down the tubes.

I don't feel bad because I've visited South Florida and came away like a
lot of people - its a really neat region with gobs of things to do. Fantastic
night life in the Miami-Miami Beach area (South Beach !) with outdoor recreational activites in the Keys and Everglades. And all of this in the best
weather in the country in the SB time of Jan-Feb. Houston and Atlanta are
dynamic business towns, but can't really compete with the kind of tourism/vacation attractions offered in South Florida that SB visitors look for
who spend several days, maybe close to a whole week in an area prior to actually attending the SB game.

I think the fact that they're giving it to Miami twice in what? four years says a lot about Miami and something about Houston. Forget about the 2002 Super Bowl because how good or bad a job we did of it doesn't really matter. The owners didn't particularly "want" to be here then and they don't really want to come back. That Super Bowl was all about the $700 Million that McNair spent and nothing else. Bob McNair for all his positives, will prove just as incapable of luring the NFL back here as Bud Adams was.
They award the game to the city that bends over for them to the tune of a new stadium or, in our case a new stadium and a new franchise. Otherwise they'd spend every Super Bowl bouncing between South Florida and Southern California.
You could throw New Orleans in there at one time but I question whether they'll be back there anytime in the next twenty or thirty years. That was different era and New Orleans time may be past. For all we know New Orleans may no longer have the population to support an NFL team anymore.
Anyway I suspect we're through hosting Super Bowls for the next few decades. Maybe someday whoever inherits the Texans from Bob will hold us hostage for a new 120,000 seat stadium with beer dispensing air conditioned seats and 1,000 luxury suites like everyone else has and then when we give it to him we'll get to host another one.

I saw Mr. McNair on the news last night talking about this subject and he had this look on his face like he wasn't feeling very confident about the voting. He said something about wait and see and that type of thing. This has something to do with some committee he's on or chairs. Something about money. Many of the owners are using this against him or so they said the last time they voted. I'm sure John McClain will talk about it tomorrow on his show on 610.
As you can see, The City of Houston has completely lost out on another chance to host the Super Bowl. Houston & Atlanta were completely snubbed out to both Forida cities, Miami (which will now host 2 Super Bowls-in a 4-year span) and Tampa Bay (which will host Super Bowl XLIII in 2009) I also feel very sorry for New Orleans, which means they can't host any more Super Bowls. Their loss could be our gain-In a big way! They Can't EVEN host the final four-The Superdome is NOW a Superdump! This place is completely doomed-It's ready to face the wrecking ball. Most of the buildings may probably be demolished. The Charity Hospital and The University Hospital will BOTH be facing the wrecking ball any moment. And where will the Saints go after this season-My guess is for them to play in SA-Permanently.

I've read in a few places .. AP/ among others ... that Tom Benson/the players/fans all want to be as close to New Orleans as possible. They seem to favor Baton Rouge and Tiger Stadium for home games. Don't know how that can work out, but many would like to see it that way.
Miami gets the Super Bowl in 2007 and 2010, Jacksonville had it last year, and Tampa Bay gets it in 2008--supposedly because of the weather factor!? That doesn't smell right when you consider Fla has had some cold weather like Houston and none of their cities has a covered stadium. Too, of the three choices for 2010-Atlanta,Houston,Miami-everyone thought Atlanta was out because they did have bad weather their last SB, which meant it would be between Miami and Houston. Logically and fairly, you would think the final choice would be Houston since Miami already has 2007, right? NOT. Of the three choices, Houston was eliminated first which kinda sorta cast a little doubt on the bad weather theory since Atlanta made the final cut...talk about talking out of both sides of the mouth!!
So, bottom line, has McNair pi**e* some owners off? They sang Houston's praises 2 years ago and said they'd definitely be back, so why the snub? The paper did say McNair wrote each owner asking for their vote--is that the norm or is that considered a little over board?? Any ideas? :

Hello? Tampa gets SB XLIII in 2009, As far as SB XL as concerned, it will be played in Detroit, which is considered an Ice Bowl city-They have an Indoor stadium, and weather WON'T be a definite factor. If the Super Bowl was supposed to be held in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Chicago or Boston-well we all be all warmeed up in those luxury seats If Houston ever gets another chance, It may go up against Dallas, as they're building a brand new stadium in Arlington.
