2009 Texans Talk Member Mock Draft

Interesting pick by the Chiefs. Earlier than I expected by about a round, but he should develop into a pass rush specialist.

It probably is a bit early, but he is really shooting up boards. They have shown a willingness to gamble with someone like Albert. He was taken about a round too early for being an LT (what game film?). They also do take a safer pick early. D. Johnson, Dorsey (hated that pick, but eh, he was the "safe" pick), and this year I went with Monroe early. Pass-rushers hold more value early than say RB's who are "a dime a dozen" in a sense. I still have 3-4 RB targets if this thing goes further.

How's KC's secondary ?

Way to be building that team starting with the trenches. I love Monroe and Albert playing next to each other again. I know you don't like Dorsey but if he isn't a bust and then Sidbury develops... oooh boy! Chiefs are pretty much rebuilding their whole team and the OL and DL is the best place to start.

Obviously multiple things will be taken into account like posts, length of time on this board, and participation in other mocks would be a big plus. Also people can vouch for others. A lurker can participate no problem.

Obviously I am not God and don't want to reject people from a group event, but for the sake of the 32 GM's who give a damn I think its necessary and this mock proves that.

I haven't been on this board long so I don't have that many posts and this is my first mock with you guys so that system would not really help me out unless somebody with a good rep spoke up for me.

I would say that is a good system for the most part because you get the most experienced members together, but there are newer members that can contribute, namely myself lol.

Dude.

Your avatar vouches for you.

And you've been taking part.

Valid points, Wolverine... re-hired! That's an excellent distraction tool.

I'd call that a 38-24-30 defense or something to that effect ;)

Rams clock is up and Jwarren has been MIA for 2 days. They took Crab #2 overall.

They missed out on all the Tackles.

Anyone?

They need a Left Tackle to replace Orlando Pace. I'm thinking Loadholt might be a RT in the pros. I don't think reaching for a LT at this point would be the best, there are other highly rated players still left.

I think the best value right now is in the DB's. I don't know anything about the Rams. How are their CBs? They got a good FS i think, what about Chung at SS??

Loadholt is the only tackle left on the board that should even go in the 2nd round, IMO. At this point he is the best lineman available.

Michael Johnson is still avail. DJ Moore. Paul Kruger. Alph Smith.

It's kind of tight with the new coach and everything. They need some o-line, but with a new defensive minded coach I could see them go defense to. Tough spot.

I would think either Loadholt, Kruger/Johnson, or Moore.

Go MJohnson, build that D-line with carriker, long, johnson. also happens to be the 35th best player on super-mario's link...and it's the 35th pick....just sayin'

I dont know how they like Alex Barron on the Left but I would assume they would go defense before they reached for Phat Phil.

Personally I think they should have taken a tackle in round 1 when they had their pick of the litter.

I do as well, but whoever was drafting cherished Crabtree to take him #2 with all the other needs. Everybody knows you build big and add small. You draft the big uglies with that pick not a receiver.

The St. Louis Rams Select: Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech.

Due to the inactivity to a lot of the people associated with this mock draft, I think we should only do 2 rounds, and then have Super Mario pick who he thinks is reliable enough to do a 3 rounder post-combine. What do you all think?

With the 37th overall choice in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select...

Darrius Heyward-Bey - Wide Receiver, Maryland

darrius_heyward-bey_300_250.jpg

Explanation - The Seahawks obviously need a receiver. Not having Crabtree drop to them was disappointing, but Heyward-Bey and Nicks were tied for 2nd best receiver in the draft IMO, so I am happy that Heyward-Bey is still here, and I think he will be a good receiver to go along with Deion Branch.

I am fine with this, but I won't be the only person building the new GM list.

We only have 8 days until the combine starts. Lets finish round 2 and then call it. Then we can build the GM list for the REAL post combine Texans Talk mock draft.

Sounds good to me, and obviously I'd like to participate in the post-combine mock draft as well.

Nice pick. I think Jenkins+Heyward-Bey is much better than Crabtree+whoever the top CB available right now is.

Crabtree #2 created havok at the top of the draft. You wanted crab and got Jenkins, I wanted Jenkins and got Smith.

Agreed though. Jenkins and HB are a pretty good haul. Like Chris said, its better than Crab and the next best corner.

Are we going to be using the same teams because I have to say I would rather change teams for the post combine mock to change it up.

I'd like to participate in the next draft. Count me in

BTW, nice pick on Heyward-Bey. I think he might turn out the best of this years WR class.

There probably won't be 32 different people in the mock so some people will be doing two teams.

I would like to keep Tampa Bay because I have already researched their team a lot. Plus, I will be open to taking on a second team if needed.

I assume we're going to do a separate "opt in" thread for the next draft, but I definitely want in. I'll take any team, and any number of teams. Just wanna make sure I don't get left out :D

I'd be cool taking a different team(s). Doing the research for other teams needs was half the fun.

Let's worry about all this stuff later.

Let's finish this mock first then we can jump into who will be involved in the next one and what teams they will do. I shouldn't have posted about doing the Bucs again.

Let's get this thing back on topic.

I'm assuming that all the guys that have been active in this thread will not be left out so I wouldn't worry. As for the whole multiple team thing I'm not much of a fan because theoretically you could trade between your teams to help one team out. I doubt the other members would let that stand, but technically it could work that way.

With the #38 pick the Baltimore Ravens select: Alphonso Smith, CB Wake Forest

ACCSmith.jpg

21 interceptions and 40 pass breakups in his four years at Wake Forest. He was my #3 rated cornerback. He was actually my #1 player on my big board for a good 7 picks now.

5-9 195. Some say height may be a problem with this guy but he brings alot of speed and ballhawking skills the Ravens always seem to find.

The Ravens are getting old at the CB position. Samari Rolle will be 33 next season, Chris McCalister 32, and even their top alternate Corey Ivy will be 32 next season. Smith can be their nickel this year and grow into a starting role.

Wow that's a great pick. He fits the Ravens defense better than any other CB in this draft, IMO. If I were drafting for the Ravens I would have taken him with their 1st round pick and you got him in the 2nd round. Awesome.

Eh, Heyward-Bey was a good pick here, but I do not see him becoming the best in the class. Crabtree earns that distinction, and Nicks will have a very good career.

When the Packers pick (41st) if Percy Harvin is still there ... would you pick him ? I'm not sure they need him but if you BPA ... he's it .

At 41? I would definitely look long and hard at him. He is a dangerous weapon when healthy, could help in the return game as well. Yea, I would at 41.
