2 QB's on roster, who do you think will be third?

Agreed knows the offence and more and important he known Coach K if anything he might bring him in to work with Carr to adjust to the system. In my thought Carr is getting it but it would not hurt to have a guy that has been in the system so with that being said those of you who are all about Sage starting or getting the start later look for V an Pelt.
 
I'd have to agree with TC. I don't see them carrying 3 unless Van Pelt becomes available. Porter should go on the practice squad.
 
we'll keep 2 with Porter on PS. As long as we have 3 on our team all together, we'll be fine.
 
We should pick up BVP. Denver has gotten away with 2 QB's because they actually have quality at QB. If Carr could be trusted then I think we go with 2. So far Carr has not shown anything close to mastering the offense.

Carr should quite living the dream and move on to GQ model. He has been our QB for four years and the biggest excitement for the town has been his stupid haircut.
 
There is no way a team with the history of having your QB getting hit 600 times a year, regardless of who it is, keeps only 2 QBs. This would be just silly.

Hmmmmm...

I have really liked Brock Berlin. Since he's been vying for a roster spot with the Dolphins for 2 years, I have had a chance to follow him a little bit. He played well in the European league during the offseason..but it seems that Saban is really high on Cleo Lemon to make the team as our 3rd QB behind Culpepper and Harrington. So in essence..it looks like Berlin will not make the team and will be available. I'd like to see him catch on with someone else or go to our practice squad. Cleo Lemon has really looked great in preseason for us. I think he really impressed Saban...and that was all she wrote for Berlin. We got Lemon last year in a trade with San Diego that involved A.J Feeley. That may turn out to be a steal because Lemon is only 2nd year and has looked great in preseason appearances. That said, I don't see him getting a lot of work with Culpepper and Harrington in the mix..anytime soon.

What about Volek at Tennessee? Looks like Vince will be starting???...and Collins the #2. Is Volek too good to be a #3?

Yea it's now official...Berlin was waived by Miami.
 
How come nobody wants Omar Jacobs?

he hasnt thrown an Int in preseason, and he threw a TD

I think that is more then Leinart did..and i dont think Leinart played all his preseason on the 1st string...i thought that was Warner..but idk maybe im wrong..but Omar would still look good in a Texans Uniform...

I hear you, but Carr's been remarkably durable considering the pounding he takes. If memory serves, the Texans only had to start their #3 QB once since the franchise started, and even Banks didn't see a huge amount of playing time. I think they can get away with a practice squad QB, but I'd naturally feel much more comfortable if a veteran in this style of offense was signed.

BUT, it's not a priority to me. This team's so young that the roster spot just might be better spent on depth at a more critical position like LB. Assuming there's a QB on the practice squad, I'm cool with carrying 2 active, as LORK put it earlier in the thread.

NINE TEAMS GOING ONLY TWO DEEP AT QUARTERBACK

One of the new trends in the National Football League is to save a roster spot by carrying only two quarterbacks. Traditionally, teams have kept three signal-callers on the open roster.

As of this posting, nine of the 32 NFL teams have only two quarterbacks on the roster.

Because NFL franchises are allowed to dress 45 players plus an "emergency" No. 3 quarterback, the primary benefit of keeping only the starter and his backup is that it allows teams to keep a player on the active roster who otherwise would be on the eight-man practice squad, and thus continuously subject to an offer from another team to join its 53-man crew.

The reality, as we've seen it described in different ways by different coaches, is that if a team is forced to use its No. 3 quarterback in an actual game, the team already is in a dire situation, since it means that both the starter and his backup have been knocked out of the game due to injury. So why use a roster spot on a guy who really won't be in a position to help much, anyway?

The teams currently with only two quarterbacks on the roster are the Steelers (Charlie Batch and Ben Roethlisberger), the Colts (Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi), the Ravens (Steve McNair and Kyle Boller), the Texans (David Carr and Sage Rosenfels), the Broncos (Jake Plummer and Jay Cutler), the Patriots (Tom Brady and Matt Cassel), the Chargers (Philip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst), the Cowboys (Drew Bledsoe and Tony Romo), the Panthers (Jake Delhomme and Chris Weinke).

EVERY team should want to pick up Omar Jacobs on potential alone. This is a guy who had a 40 TD, 4 INT season at Bowling Green.

And MAC QBs in general have a great reputation of making it in the NFL recently. Roethlisberger, Frye, Pennington, Leftwich, and Bruce Gradkowski has had an electric preseason for the Bucs, too.

I've been on the Omar Jacobs bandwagon for a long time. Yes, he could bust, but he might catch fire, too. His potential is limitless. That is absolutely worth picking up as a UFA.

A lot of teams are going with two QBs this season, but that doesn't mean because it's a popular move that it's a smart move. Look at what happened to the Jets last year. Their #1 and #2 QBs went down in the SAME GAME. It's a good thing they had a third QB on the roster, or they wouldn't even have anyone to play under center. Then, they had to drag Vinny Testaverde out of retirement. I don't want to be put in that kind of situation.
 
I don't mind the fact that we only have 2 actual Qbs on the roster but I think that a smart move would to be a QB/WR maybe Reggie McNeal. We could put him as a 4 or 5th reciever and if worst case scenario he's a mobile QB that would be great for the system that involves plenty of roll-outs and bootlegs.

I am fine with this. Porter looked like a guy who can think on his feet. He shouldnt be in there for too long even if he does have to play.... let's hope.
 
Look there are now 3 guys on the street, 2 if you subtract Porter for being on the practice squad, that know Kubiaks offense. Van Pelt and Cody Pickett both can come in here and be up to speed very quickly. Also there are alot of West Coast guys on the street. They can be brought in. There have not been alot of former Chris Palmer guys on the steet that you could have up to speed in a week.

This move is going to be OK.

Nine teams in the NFL are going with only 2 QBs on the active roster: Texans (Carr/Rosenfels), Patriots (Brady/Cassel), Colts (Manning and Sorgi), Chargers (Rivers/Whitehurst), Carolina (Delhomme/Weinke). Dallas (Human Statue/Romo), Ravens (McNair/Boller), Steelers (Big Ben/Batch), and Broncos (Plummer/Cutler).

It's a new trend that allows teams to free up one extra roster spot (which is normally used on a 3rd string QB) while sending that 3rd string QB to the practice squad...thus, you can activate your 3rd string QB if you need to, while at the same time not occupying an active roster spot when unnecessary.

Kubiak is NOT bringing in a third QB from anywhere. Period. We put Porter on the PS, and he's the guy (currently) if we should need a 3rd QB. Hope this dispells the "There's a lot of QBs out there we can look at" debate.

We were tinkering, according to reports, with acquiring Van Pelt from the Broncos...but it wasn't going to work out because I think we were looking at having to carry him on the active roster.

BTW, Colts cut Hollings AND Wells.
