2 firsts ain't enough..

610 posed a question that I think could be interesting here..

So, in light of the recent player movement we've seen throughout the league, and in particular a couple of moves that sent Laremy Tunsil and Jalen Ramsey to new homes in exchange for 2 1st rounds picks and maybe then some ... the question asked was who on the Texans would you not part ways with if another GM came calling and offered you 2 number 1s?

And so the question here is the same ... what players (if anyone) would you not trade for 2 1st round picks? To keep it simple we're not getting into who's trading the picks and so what part of the round are they likely to be in, just generally speaking for fun - 2 1's for your best players, who would you say no thanks about?

- Right off the top I'm not trading Deshaun for 10 first round picks. Nope, no thanks. I believe he's special and I could draft for a decade and never land special. I'm good.

- Next, Laremy Tunsil. No, I don't think he's necessarily value-wise that good, at least not yet. But after what we went through to get him it would be ridiculous. And I refuse to go back to wishing DW best of luck with his health every week.

- Hardest one for me is DHop. He's incredible, but two 1's is a lot. Ultimately I say no thanks though as he fits hand in glove with #4 and he's so complete a wideout without being a diva ... I just don't know if I'll get a total return on that trade in the end. Maybe 3 1's, but not 2.

Aaanndd, that's it. Everyone else is fair game.

Now, what say y'all?

I think you covered it pretty well. There may be some sentimental folks who wouldn't trade jj. I would.
Ya, didn't mean to ape the idea, genuinely thought there could be a couple of differences. Maybe on DHop, certainly on JJ, and maybe also if not 2 firsts what it might take to part with one dude or another.

Ok, even though I didn't really mean for it to all be about JJ I still kinda knew it would ultimately revolve around JJ.

You forgot the briefcase!
Still a young thread. I imagine some people would trade dhop for 2 1st. A handful here would also trade 2 1st to get rid of O'Brien.

I wouldnt trade JJ for 3 first rounds.... I love JJ but its not due to that...... more based on the ability to use those picks.

A busted first is worth MUCH less than JJ let alone 2 or 3 busts.

IF I trusted we could use the picks properly.... yes.

Who assumes they'll have 3 first round busts?

Why not just trade all your draft picks year in and year out for mediocre players then? Beats busts all around.

Coming at it from the opposing angle - who would I pay two 1st rounders to acquire from the Texans? Not JJ.

The only ones I'd pay it for would be the ones you'd never give up, like Watson or Hopkins. And I'm not even sure about Hopkins.

Again... the question is.. would I.... you disagree, fine.

I dont trust the current regime.. so... I assume they are busts because I do not trust those in the drivers seat that make the choice of what to do with them. With the current regime... Im all for trading our picks away for players that can most definitely make a difference rather than rely on the ability to coach up a player.

Given the state of our current first round options.... they dont value the future picks over players that can make a difference today either.

What if it were a grade A regime (whoever you assume that to be) doing the drafting?

Then, yes. I believe a draft pick... even a first over all... is only as good as the one using it.

It doesnt even have to be "grade A" just not this one.... everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves and the best means to do that....

This one has had its chance and I dont trust what they produce up until now.

Who on the Texans is actually worth 2 first rd picks other than Watson, Tunsil or D-Hop? Watt isn't, not at this point in his career, but if someone was willing to give me 2 1sts for Watt I'd have to consider it, but not the other three.

Give me 2 years and tell me how Watson develops.

Everybody else should be available for trade.

I love JJ but he wouldn't be above trading.

Watson
Tunsil
Hopkins
Watt

Watt mainly because some things are more important than football and Watt has more value to this city than a Super Bowl trophy would. Also I just don’t value picks as much as everyone else. I think it’s because only 53% of first round picks aren’t busts and Texans have a bad draft history.

The draft is nice but I think to many on here are conditioned to it being the high light of their football year. I get it, when you’re not winning that’s all you got but you look at teams like the Pats or Saints and they don’t fret over the draft because odds are they are drafting close to the second round anyway.

if I was building a team I would never give up two 1sts... cus I would feel like in the draft I could find my diamonds in the rough plus the players would be younger and cheaper

has far has my roster there is a lot of players I would get rid of for two 1sts ..

currently anyone of the Texans defense I would give up for two 1sts

and well heck anyone on the Texans I would give up for two 1 except Watson

Texans can sign their upcoming FA's for 2020. 2021 will be a bit more difficult but could be doable based on the possible cap increase. Pick wise.....they're handicapped for 2020 and 2021 but it looks as though the OL dilemma has been solved.

Offensively they look like a young and complete unit. Don't forget, they'll get another Jordan back along with a healthy Warring. They have RB, Higdon on the PS, I believe. They'll have McCarron as QB2.

Defensively, they will need to focus what picks they possess in patching weak areas.....mostly the defensive backfield.

This a good team and it's getting better. I'm looking forward to seeing how this season goes.

It would all depend on who I’m trading with. If it’s Cincinnati, Miami or Arizona I’d trade anyone but Watson for two 1st round picks.

It's just a silly game on the internet for fun.

Relax. Imagine the picks are in the middle of the round and someone competent is drafting.

He means what would is cost to move up for Lawrence next year.

That's what I thought

Watson has mobility that Lawrence doesn't
Is Lawrence available in 2020? Would the trade be for 2020 or 2021 or both?

Right, at the expense of Watson, which is a no go.

And not necessarily about mobility. It's about what's been shown. Watson has shown he can win impressively as a pro. And for all his talents Lawrence has struggled as a sophomore.

And if it was for an expiring contract Watson?

I wouldn't do it. Sometimes the proven veteran is worth more. Never been all that impressed with Lawrence anywho, but there are his fans...

Watson's contract never expires. It re-ups.

And I'm a fan of Lawrence, a big fan. But DW is emerging now. Lawrence isn't even close.
Was just trying to point out that there are so many variables in the original question

It's just a goofy hypothetical game. Nothing to do gymnastics about. Just looking at general trade value.
From the looks of it, you’re the one doing the mental gymnastics on this game. My initial response was really very basic.

Anyway, if all you’re looking for are names of players who I wouldn’t trade 2 first round picks for-

Watson

That was fun.

I so agree with this.

First round picks do not guarantee a great player just as much as they do not guarantee a horrible player(s).

I know he is one of the faces of the franchise but if a team who is going to draft high offers me two firsts for Nuk, I'd take it.
I think you can get a pretty solid replacement in the draft - maybe not as good as Nuk, but right now we are flush with decent receivers. We have Fuller, Stills and Coutee. We also have some decent help from TE's.
Two high firsts would certainly add some capital back to the draft bank.

Here’s the thing I will always take the proven vet over the rookie until the vet either A: can’t play at an NFL level, B: price tag is going to put me in cap hell or mess up other, more important signings or C: the rookie will fill a position of more important need I.E. allow me to get a franchise QB.

Lets not forget that Tebow actually is arguably the greatest college QB ever if you just look at pure numbers and stats. College and the NFL are so different it’s not even funny. Plus rookies are coming into the NFL with more injuries and shorter shelf lives then ever so that has to be considered when looking at their long term value. One of the knocks against Watson was how many college injuries he had before he was even drafted.

You'd run the risk of not having legit protection for DW again? Or you like Howard to perhaps fill that role?
We got Mike Devlin.

Seriously though. I'm just Tunsil isn't safe. I'd give it serious consideration. I like what Tunsil has done, but the other 4 have played like quality starters. I'm ok with one weak spot that we may have to help from time to time.

If we were starting Kelemente, Martin, Fulton, & Henderson then Tunsil would be off the board.
