I go kerplunk
That's our average margin of defeat over our last 6 losses. We haven't had a single digit loss since January 15th 2012. Thoughts?

We win our close games. That should be a good sign, not a bad one.

Makes no difference if you lose by 1 or 50. May as well take our lumps in our losses, and win all the games that are *right on the edge*.

I don't think we're watching the same team on Sundays...

Thoughts...

If we didn't pull a rabbit out of our ass the first two weeks and multiple weeks last season, this thread wouldn't be here.

Seriously though, it tells me that when Kubiak in outcoached... we lose big. When we have a good game plan, we can beat anybody not led by a elite coach and can even come from behind. It's been the knock on Kubes his entire coaching career. For ****s and giggles, post the coaches of those "6 losses". Without even looking it up, I'll guess it's a list of who's who in the NFL coaching ranks.

Leslie Frazier & Chuck Pagano?

Thoughts? We had 15 wins over the same time period.

Not so much. I'd say there were two in the who's who:

Bill Belichick 0 - 2
John Harbaugh 1 - 1 with our win by 30 and theirs by 21.

then

Mike McCarthy
Leslie Frazier
Bruce Arians 1 - 1 with both wins by 12.

How about who Bill Belichick loses to?

John Harbaugh 0 - 2

then

Jim Harbaugh
Pete Carroll
Ken Whisenhunt

& John Harbaugh?

nobody

then

John Fox 0 - 2
Andy Reid
Gary Kubiak
Mike Tomlin
Mike Shanahan
Marvin Lewis

Uh...yes it does. If our losses were by 50 points each I don't think I'd be watching this sunday.

In the win/loss column it makes no difference but the margin can tell you something about your team. JMO, but if we lose by a slim margin then it tells me that we battled hard, didn't give up, and were just beaten by a better team on that day. I don't like it but it's an acceptable loss knowing your team tried hard. If we lose by a large margin, and knowing the talent level of this team, it tells me that we either put forth no effort, were unprepared, or were vastly out coached all of which are unacceptable. I understand what NN is talking about.

Dating back to your chosen date of January 15th, 2012 we have had 15 wins.

You get to live with the wins since you chose the drama of adding 10 months to the time period.

I never added 10 months to the time period. I clearly stated in the last 6 losses. Baltimore in 2012 would have been the last 7 losses. Perhaps you could not cling to semantics so hard in the future. Also I'm not sure how you adding 10 months to my time frame is "drama", but okay cak.

I haven't looked it up, but I heard that when a team wins a bunch of close games they eventually start losing them. Some stat about not many teams in the nfl consistently coming out on the winning side of those close games. That eventually water finds it's level.

Same goes for teams losing a bunch of close games.

Normally in a close game it could be one or two plays that cost you. Maybe a mistake or letdown by one person in a crucial moment could be the difference.

Getting your face kicked in a bunch of times tells me that there is a major fundamental issue with this team and until it's fixed if I'd expect more of the same.

New year, new team. This kinda stat has less value for me, than S.O.S.

Irrespective of the OP's time frame, this doesn't feel like a new year and new team. It feels like a continuation of the collapse we saw at the end of last season. Obviously, all the key players are still present for it.

Before the season I thought we would have some rough games but still win enough to get to SB. Now not so sure. Sunday could go either way. We still do not have depth to cover when a starter goes out at most positions.

True enough.

Stat wise, yards... we're top 10 on offense, top 2 on defense. So we're able to move the ball & we're able to get folks off the field. Just gotta make that translate to points... which will translate to wins.

Right now, we've got more time to figure it out, where last year we just ran out of time.

"Good teams don't lose close games, they avoid them" --- Darryl Morey

The large majority of nfl games are decided by 7 points or less. There is typically a 50-50 trend of win loss in games decided by less than 4 points. If you can keep it close you have a much better chance at going 14-2 versus 12-4. Or even 12-4 versus 10-6.
