Did you forget you won 2 games last year?

im 1 of the realists who think 2-3 would be a very god start to the season

just read through the whole thread and all i can say is WOW!!..i think some people are setting themselves up for a fall-13-3 etc..are you serious??? i mean id love it to happen but come on- ive no doubt we'll be much improved but we're a new, young team with a new head coach..new schemes etc that will take time before being mastered....i dont want to be bringing other people down but look at the historical facts-i was reading an article lately and i think it said jon gruden is the only HC to get a team to the playoffs in his first year..and that was with a very good, veteran TB team.....

anyway for me..10-6 is our ceiling but id be happy with a competitive 7-9,8-8 record

I can't even imagine 10-6. I was originally thinking 5-11 but after really looking at the schedule (and just plain getting psyched up), I'm really, really hoping for 8-8. I think we can do that.

Less than 5-11 and I'll be upset. More than 7-9 and I'll be ecstatic.

Those are my hopes. Humble though they may be.

This is the way I feel:

We realistically have a chance to win all 16 games. We can beat every team we play. That's what I like to see. I'd be happy with a .500 season.

10-6 sounds good to me........ what I don't understand are the people predicting 8-8 at best. We were pretty clear, that we weren't rebuilding, but if the best we can predict is 8-8, or worse 7-9 then hell we should've started rebuilding.

"we should've started rebuilding"

You lost me here. We've got a new GM, new HC, new coordinators, new position coaches, new offense, new defense, and a bunch of new players--if that's not rebuilding, please explain what is!!

I believe rebuilding would include the QB. TB didn't rebuild when Gruden came to town......

We've got a new fullback, center, and a WR on offense..... that is most likely true for over half the teams in the NFL.

On defense, we've got a new defensive end, a tackle, and a MLB..... that's about par for the course.

I agree. Rebuilding means you get rid of your core players and we haven't done that. We've just added better role players and a much better system to use them all in.

Ok, let me make sure I've got this--

1) We changed the GM
2) We rebuilt the coaching staff
3) We rebuilt the offense
4) We rebuilt the defense
5) We changed the coaching philosophy
6) We replaced about half the roster

....but we kept a 'few' core players, so we are not rebuilding??? Sorry, I don't agree. IMO, 'not rebuilding' is when you 'tweak' here or there. That's not what we did. We've started over. And, to me, core players are those on a team you can't do without and we do not have very many of those--factor in different starters at almost every position (especially the lines) and we just do not have a lot of proven players at many positions.

"TB didn't rebuild when Gruden came to town...... "

I don't know what Gruden did in TB, but I do know he replaced a very good coach in Tony Dungy who had already built a solid team in Tampa. That was a totally different scenario than Kubiak walked into with the mess Caper's left. In fact, many people give Dungy much of the credit for the SB that Gruden won with the Bucs.

We will win more than 2 games this season. I think we'll exceed the past 4 seasons by being a .500 team as well, at least. Sure there are those on here that claim to be "realists". But no one really knows jack about how the season is going to go. If you would have told me that the Steelers and Seahawks were going to the big dance, w/ the Steelers winning the championship last season, I would have said it would have been the Colts, but look what happened.

Go Texans!!! They open up the season 4-1, 3-2 at least. But going beyond being competitive and losing close games I see them winning those close games.

I guess where we disagree is on your third and fourth points. We've obviously changed systems, but I don't think adding a FB, C, and a WR counts as rebuilding the offense when Carr, Davis, and Johnson are still the focus of everything. Those guys are important, but they are role players.

I'm with you so far.

3) We rebuilt the offense

4 of 5 OL'men will be returning to the OL
1 of 2 wide recievers will be returning from last year
2 of 3 backs were in the backfield last year........ Carr & DD.... Jameel Cook will be the only person in the backfield that wasn't there last year.

Putz...... might start...... might be Joppru.... doesn't matter, as we've been playing musical TE from day one.

we've got 11 players on the field on offense. only 4 will be new to our team.

NATHANHALE said:
4) We rebuilt the defense

Again...... same DBs..... not one change there........ we've shrunk at the linbaker position, but only added one new face that might crack the starting lineup, and that's only until our guy gets healthy. We have two new linemen

Again, 11 starters........ 3 new faces..... that's not rebuilding.

NATHANHALE said:
5) We changed the coaching philosophy

Before the 2004 season, we probably made just as many changes on offense, including a "philosophy" change..... that was not a rebuild, that was a tweak.

Last year, we ran a run blocking system.......... this year, we'll be running a run blocking system.... moving the pocket to protect the QB is a tweak, just like a 1 step drop...... we'll different routes, and expct our QB to make a second/third read...... but we shouldn't expect any different.
NATHANHALE said:
6) We replaced about half the roster

We've added a bunch of players to fill spots in Training camp. Beyound the obvious names I've mentioned, no one's been replaced yet....... well no one that really mattered. We've exchanged Ragone/Banks for Rosenfels, but that kinda don't really matter.

Trust me, we didn't rebuild. Tennesee has rebuilt, and they've got the same coach. They've got no runningback(not really, think about it), no QB(they'll either start a backup, or a rookie), they overpaid an overhyped #2 to be their #1 reciever......... because they don't really have a #1. Offensively, the only thing you can say they do have, is an offensive line, and that's stretcing it. I think only two of the 5 started last year for Tennessee... maybe 3..

They've got absolutely no reason, other than blind optimism, to think they'll win many if any games in '06..

Since most of our core players are still here, I'd call what we did more of a retooling rather than a rebuilding, at least in terms of our roster. We obviously brought in new coaching staff, GM, systems, etc., but the core of our team is still here and we've built upon that, so I'm not sure I'd call it a complete rebuilding.

I doubt we start that strong, the hardest part of our schedule is that early part. Anyone that thinks we are going to start 4-1 should be predicting our final record to be in the neighborhood of 12-4 since our schedule is easier in the middle and end of the year than at the beginning. I'm not sure why it seems like so many people expect this kind of fast start and then just a 7-9 to 8-8 finish.

Why not 16-0, i mean we can do it. With D.D healthy and a revived O-Line, plus the addition of a few new good recievers. ok we are gonna be good but realisticly i could see us beign 10-6 maybe 13-3. It SUCKS i'm gonna miss most of this season i leave for the Air Force in a few weeks :( !!!
