#1 Defense-Yards Allowed!!!!

Big Lou

Hall of Fame
When Baltimore gave up over 260 yards of total yards that moved your Houston Texans in to the #1 rated yards allowed Defense for the entire NFL!!!!!

Great job boys!!!! Great job Wade!!!

Man that felt great to type!!!! (Hope my math was accurate)

Just pulled some more stats:

3rd: Passes Defensed
4th (Tied): Sacks
5th (Tied): Ints

I remember when we use to only expect those kinds of stats from the O. Its not all about stats, its about W's, but this D is so damn fun to watch!!!!!

The Rushing Offense will be moving up the rankings tomorrow as well after yesterdays performance.

I'm really amazed at how much difference Wade has made so quickly.

Really highlights how bad Bush was, too.

Wow, Pittsburgh gave up 350 yards tonight, Ravens gave up damn near 400

that should do it.

I concur with the op's statistical assertion. It's simple math. Pittsburgh had previous to tonight played 8 games. Going into tonight's game, they were giving up an average of 270.8 yards per game. In order to be worse than us, they needed to give up all of that 270.8 plus enough more so that when divided by nine games, it equals more than the 3.2 yards per game to tie us at 274 ypg. They gave up way more than that to Baltimore.

Similar to Baltimore's defense. They gave up just enough to Pittsburgh - they will probably be at 275 or 276 yards per game. It will be on NFL.com within a few hours and you'll have your evidence.

Yeah, I posted in another thread that we would more than likely be #1 in total defense after this game. I just wanted to see the numbers. Which I posted.

Baltimore gave up almost 400 yards, Pittsburgh gave up 350, we'll be #1 with a pretty good margin.

JinxNow watch us give up 400 yards to Tampa BayJinx

i'm stocking up on ammo. if the texans are #1 on defense, the zombie apocalypse is surely right around the corner.

It's amazing what a great coach can do with a handful of players. A competent D coordinator is one of the pieces the Texans have been missing for years.

I'm thinking Cushing loves this look and is cultivating it. His helmet/face mask seems to cut up his face every week.

Not since Jack Lambert has a linebacker looked this freaking frightening.

Is the kid going to fk his face up for an eternity?

Bloody face might be one thing, but getting poked in the eye, or losing a few teeth might help him decide that face mask might not be the best one to use.

This D is not only fun to watch, but it's the kind of D that can take you places once the playoffs begin. Apple Cart, Horse, blah, blah. I know. Still, Great D + great running game = playoff success.

And we didn't even need Mario Williams, a real nose tackle or a real CB opposite Joseph to do it.

That is the unbelievable thing. We're doing this with so many holes on the defensive side of the ball.

Give the man another draft and FA.....and wow.

Heck, give him an offseason.

LOL, you beat me to it. They are getting better by the game. Next season they will be true killers.

In 2012, The Return of The House Of Pain. (Rated X, no one who is sqeamish around violence should attend or watch)

Rick Smith's personnel decisions the past three years are looking pretty amazing! Once again, I point you towards the '09 off-season:

Free agent: Antonio Smith

draft:
B. Cushing
Barwin
Caldwell
Quin
A.Hill
Casey
McCain
Nolan

UDFAs: Foster, Jamison.

That is an amazing off-season. Smith's deal looks like a major bargain now. Cushing and Foster are All-Pros. Barwin, Casey, and Quin are good starters with higher ceilings. McCain, Nolan, Jamison, and Caldwell are all impact quality depth. Only Hill was a miss.

He's played like Lambert this year too ..... cant say enough about his performance so far. NFL Defensive MVP ?

The Texans may be #1 in yards allowed but they are 3rd in the stat that matters most defensively - Points Allowed - behind San Fran (14.8) and Baltimore (16.2) allowing 17.4 per game.

Who woulda thought San Fran would be this good after the Texans dismantled them in the preseason .....

I will forever worship the prostate of Wade Phillips if they can be the #1 defense in the NFL at the end of the season.

"I'm too sexy for my shirt..all the women want to know if I wear boxers or briefs!" signed Wade Phillips.

I should probably point out that Mario Williams still leads this team in sacks for this season. He won't for much longer, I hope, but let's not short change the man, hmmm?

Oh, and Brooks Reed for DROY!

Good post.

I like how you did the impossible of acknowledging Mario's ability and praising Brooks Reed as well.

:king:

So, how many people think we're going to keep the #1 spot through the end of the season?

If the offense can keep pounding the ball on the ground and eating up clock in the process .... they have a good shot at it. Their schedule doesnt hurt their chances much either ..... Tenn , Indy and Jax arent very good offensively.

Considering that we're playing Jacksonville and Indy again, we may not be too far off.

We will have some tests against TB, Cincy, Carolina, and especially Atlanta, though.

The ravens and steelers get to play the browns twice a year too though. :)

That should keep things interesting.
